How about contacting the manufacturer of the DVD? If it is indeed a defective batch, they should refund or replace the set. Target had no idea that the merchandise shipped to them was defective in any way, and since the manufacturer won't credit them for opened DVDs, your best bet is to try to contact the manufacturer directly and see if they'll ship you a replacement.
