Re: American Express Lowered My Credit Limit Following Payment
by J C. - Posted Fri March 27, 2009 @ 7:52 PM

AMERICAN EXPRESS IS IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE according to my conversation with EXPERIAN earlier today. I had to hunt down a real phone number for Experian and finally talk to a real person. Here is the number that will help you reach a live voice.

Experian
475 Anton Blvd.
Costa Mesa, CA 92626
1 714 830 7000

This started off with AMEX lowering my credit line by $10,700.00. After asking American Express why this happened, they referred me to contact Experian, and that they receive a monthly report that showed I was at a high balance to credit line ratio. AMEX gave me a bunk phone number to Experian which was just an automated line.
Once I finally hunted down a real person, I found out that they are having a lot of calls from AMEX customers in the same boat with perfect credit and payment history. She informed me that American Express is in financial turmoil.
I will no longer be doing business with American Express. If I had been planning to make a large purchase at Costco, who accepts American Express ONLY, and was denied at the counter, I would be irate. I'm not impressed with their way of doing business.
