It isn't about

it being "earned." It's about proving your loyalty to this country and what it stands for. Part of what we stand for is FREEDOM! So isn't it a little irrational to say you HAVE to speak English to live in this country? A country whose whole premise is having liberty and freedom to live life the way each person sees fit?

Besides, I know PLENTY of people who were born here whose English skills are TERRIBLE. Does that mean we get to put them out because they aren't following our mainstream customs?
