That's a stupid argument if the car stays in the immediate family. What's the difference between giving your spouse a car for Xmas and going out any day of the week and buying a car? NOTHING! You still have to make payments on it. I can see your reasoning if you were giving the car as a present to a friend and they had to make payments on it.

If that electeic blanket was bought using a CC, then yes payments are being made on it.
