I agree, it's AWFUL and ANNOYING.

Annoying as hell.

However: Typically, if someone is made to look stupid/clueless in a TV commercial, it's a man -- more specifically, a husband. This used to be how women were portrayed in TV commercials (I've seen some doozies from the '50s and '60s that make us all look like idiots who can't clean a house without a man telling us which product to use).

But now that women have fought against that -- publicly -- now advertisers seem to think that it's okay to make men look dumb.

There's one for retirement planning now, and it shows several husbands talking to their wives, all the husbands are scared and worried, and their wives are calm and have all the answers. It's a bit offensive, really, to break things down along gender that way.

Women's groups spoke up and got advertisers to change their ways in how they portray women -- that doesn't mean it's okay to make men look stupid as a group.
