I work in a high end retail store that sells storage boxes/baskets. We even look through it just to make sure that nothing is in there. It isn't that we think our customers are stealing (even though it does happen once in a while) a lot of times we are making sure that it was not used for a display and has paper, sand, rocks, etc in it. It's more for a piece of mind for everyone the customer so they do not get home and have a dirty box/basket and for us just to make sure there is nothing "hiding" in there.
