I don't see why it couldn't be fixed over the phone with your doctor's office. My CAT Is on a controlled substance (valium) and my vet just calls it in and I pick it up within a week. If valium can be called in via the phone, surely another controlled-substance scrip can be fixed via the phone.

I'm sorry you had to travel so long/far to get your scrip. I'm glad you have someone you can rely on. Perhaps call in advance next time and make sure it's all cool/good to go?
