Kmart Sells Christmas Trees with Faulty Lights
by Nina G. - Posted Tue January 1, 2008 @ 12:00 PM
Last year, I bought a Martha Stewart Everyday 6-1/2 ft. Blue Ridge Mountain Tree with 600 Multi-Colored Lights from Kmart. The box on the tree claimed that the lights should last for 1000 hours. It also claims the whole string of lights will never go out if one bulb burns out.
I had no problem with the tree last year when we bought it, but this year a half a string of lights on the top went out as soon as I put the tree up. We tried testing every light and every fuse, but nothing would fix the lights. A few days later, part of a string of lights on the middle section went out. Again, nothing we did could fix the lights. Now, the whole string of lights on the top section have went out. Again, we were unable to fix the problem by replacing the bulbs and fuses. We also attempted to call the 1-800 number listed on the box several times, but no one ever answers.
I also noticed that we are not the first family this happened to when I was browsing the reviews on the Martha Stewart Christmas Trees on Kmart's website. It seems like some people are getting trees with faulty strings of lights.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure what could be done after having this product for a year, but it is clear that Kmart is selling Christmas Trees with faulty lights and something has to be done about it. Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time of year and there is nothing more disappointing to have to deal with a partially lit tree because more quality control doesn't go into these products.
It would also be nice if Kmart would allow me to return this faulty product or offer up a refund.
