American Express Lowered My Credit Limit Following Payment
by mike s. - Posted Sat April 5, 2008 @ 12:00 PM

I recently made a $7000.00 payment on my AmEx and was rewarded by having my limit dropped $8000.00 two days later. I use AmEx as a business tool and now have had available cash sucked into a black hole when the intention was to lower my balance ratio by paying down a portion of the card. Now I am worse off then when I started.

Certainly AmEx cannot be trusted as a business tool if they lower your credit limit every time you pay down your balance. I am approaching this as a good faith payment to them and that they have failed to hold up their end of the bargain. If they need to lower lines in a credit crunch they at least need to give notice to allow for customers to plan accordingly before losing access to their cash by paying off AmEx.

Start giving notice of pending line reductions to allow business customers to plan accordingly, and put my limit back where it was. No on seems to know why it was lowered so everything must be ok.
