American Eagle Outfitters Sells Cheaply Made Jeans
by Lynn B. - Posted Sun September 21, 2008 @ 12:00 PM

To Whom it May Concern:

I had never shopped at American Eagle Outfitters prior to about three weeks ago when I purchased two pairs of your True Boot Fit jeans in size 6 short. I tried them on prior to buying them and loved the way they fit. The next day I was getting dressed and upon pulling on the jeans, there was a loud rip and I looked down to find the seam near the crotch had a long tear. These jeans had never been worn and still had the tags on them.

I took them back to the Sunland Park Mall location where I purchased them and did an even exchange on another pair thinking it was probably a freak occurrence. Therefore, I did not save my receipt. That was a huge mistake!

Today, two weeks after the exchange, another pair ripped in the exact same place on the jeans. Now I know there is a definite problem with the quality of the jeans at your stores, which is not reflective in the price at all. Very annoyed at this point, I took BOTH pairs back to the AEO in the mall to get a refund. Because I did not have a receipt, all I was offered was store credit. I explained to the employee there that I had no interest in store credit given the extremely poor quality. I asked if my transaction could be looked-up using my debit card. She explained that the transaction occurred too long ago.

I felt, given my situation, that an exception should have been made. Why would I want to spend more money on clothes that, in one case, ripped just trying them on and in the other case ripped after wearing only twice?

I took the store credit, being told there was not another option. Now I have no idea what to do with it. I will never personally shop at American Eagle Outfitters again nor will I recommend AEO to anyone else.

My suggestion, as a completely dissatisfied consumer is to improve your quality... or don't improve your quality but DO lower your prices. Offer alternatives to customers who do not want to purchase more AEO products based upon utterly cheap products. I happen to believe my transaction could have been researched to obtain a refund on my debit card. I would not have minded waiting a while; it would have been worth it to me. I was told that was not possible.
