old bags new bags

i encountered one of the most ridiculous people i have ever met in my life at sears. i wanted to return a pair of pajamas my daughter had gotten as a gift. well, i put them in the trunk of my car so i wouldn't forget to return them. well, being as though i have small children, i go to school full time, and i work...i just never got around to returning them even though i didn't forget. i just NEVER have time to go to the mall. anyway, i finally decided to try and return them when i had to go to the mall for a haircut. when i was in the sears parking lot, i read the back of the receipt which has their return policy on it. they don't give refunds after 90 days. okay, well, i'll just go ahead and see if i can exchange it or do something. so, the lady at the register tells me that she'll see what the CURRENT sale price of the pajamas are. i think it was like 4.00 on clearance when they were 20+ originally. i decided i was just going to keep the PJ's...no big deal. i wasn't upset or anything. i actually went to the mall to get a haircut, but i figured i'd check on the PJ's and see if i could still exchange them or whatever. so, after i POLITELY told the lady i was just going to keep the pj's...i asked her if i could have a bag to put them in. for whatever reason, i didn't take the PJ's into the store with a bag. i just had them in my hand with the receipt. since i didn't get to return them, i didn't want to have to carry them around the mall and to get a haircut so i asked for a bag. the lady looks around and acts like she's really confused. i assumed she was looking for the bag i brought in. i said, i didn't have a bag when i came in. she said, "oh, well, i can't give you a bag because you didn't buy anything."

i was in SHOCK. a plastic BAG! it's not like i walked in off the street asking for the nicest paper bag they had. i am OBVIOUSLY a customer of sears and i simply wanted a plastic bag to put my item in. this lady was in her 60's. i just could not believe that someone that age would not have the common sense to realize how stupid that was. i lost it. i was like that is freaking ridiculous! you can't give me a BAG?! what did i do? i walked into the place where i was going to get my haircut and said, hey, do you have a plastic bag i can put this in by any chance? they HAPPILY handed me a bag that was really THICK and a lot more expensive than sears' cheap plastic bags. it seriously made me not want to ever go back there again. i really hate it because i buy so many clothes at sears. i am getting ready to buy a washer and dryer, and i seriously don't want to give them my money because they acted so stupid over a BAG!

tell your employees that they should do whatever it takes to make customers happy as long as it isn't totally unreasonable.
