Tricare Not Accepted at Walgreen's Pharmacies
by T. B. - Posted Fri August 10, 2012 @ 12:00 PM

I had a prescription to turn in and went to Walgreen's 24 hour store located on San Pedro Ave in San Antonio, TX. I waited my turn to be helped, they were busy, so it took a bit. When it was my turn, I already had my insurance card and my military ID card out. I have Tricare and its my secondary payer. When I stepped up to the window to hand in my Rx, the tech took one look at my military ID card and told me that they do not accept Tricare. I was pretty stunned since Tricare care is accepted at most all pharmacies and provider offices. She went on to say that letters were sent out to patients and that they had stopped taking Tricare last year sometime. She also went on to tell me that they would again accept Tricare starting in September.

I have not been a patient of Walgreens for many years, so I am not sure how they would have notified me. I use Target or get my Rx's filled on post for the most part. It was after 7pm and Target pharmacy I use had closed and since I had seen a civilian provider, I cannot get my Rx's filled on post. I chose this Walgreens because of the most excellent customer service that I had received the day before when dealing with my daughter's Rx issue. Normally when Target is closed I will go to Walmart, but again, since Walgreens really went the extra mile for my daughter, I wanted to use them for my own self.

My complaint is that there really should be a listing of insurance carriers that Walgreen's doesn’t take, posted somewhere, so that customers can see if their plan or carrier is accepted. I wouldn’t have had to stand in line for so long had there been a sign that indicated accepted carriers.

Please post either a listing of accepted or non accepted carriers somewhere in the customer area in your pharmacies.
