Office Max Watch Out! I Am One Of Those Pyschos Who Boycotts Companies For Years And Years And Years

Recently, I purchased a konica printer for my kid's pc, which was to come with a rebate of $50. I am pretty busy, so I mailed it in after 30 days or so. well, konica just rejected my request because I didn't send it in within the horrificly short due date - something like two weeks. This is absolutely ridiculous. I shop at office max a lot, but I think this is close to fraud - any person who is relatively busy needs time to send in a rebate form - I usually take 30-60 days and have never encountered a problem. In the future, i think i'll pass on office max. it just is not worth the effort. sorry. your staff was great - very helpful etc but getting ripped off is not for me. and i will never ever buy konica again, as long as i live. (and yes, i am one of those psychos who boycotts companies for years and ytears and years.)

refuse to advetsise or allow konica to advertise any rebates unless it allows rebatyes to be sent in within 90-180 days of purchase.

First of all, kids should not have their own PC's, especially not in
their own rooms.

Second, if you want your money and are against Officemax so much,
return the printer, that will show them.

Third, never fall for those #^#%^ rebates again.

Lesson learned via the scenic route!

OMG! Are you kidding me?? Ah the plight of the ever-whiny "Maximus
Entitleus" species! (that's Latin for "Give me everything I want or I
will pout and complain like a 3 year old in Toys R Us!")

Look, I understand that you clearly did not comprehend how the rebate
process works, so let me clarify it for you...

Like the other posters said, the rebate is an enticement to get you to
buy a particular product and the game is played like this: The
retailer conspires with the manufacturer to get you, the consumer, to
buy an item that you probably would not typically purchase so that
both the retailer and the manufacturer make money.

But wait a minute! If they offer you, the consumer, a ridiculous and
unrealistically low price on an item that you would not typically buy,
then they, both the retailer and the manufacturer, would lose a LOT of
money! And we CAN'T let that happen, right?

So after they entice you with the low price (dangling carrot), they
treat you like a pedigreed Chihuahua and make you jump through a
series of hoops (fill out 6 forms in triplicate, provide enough copies
of your receipt and the UPC to wallpaper a small country with and mail
everything at your expense to some address in Botswana) to determine
whether you are "worthy." (toungue in cheek fully intended)of a rebate
check.

Then they take their sweet time sending you the rebate, or even
responding to you, because by then, they have sold enough of the
overinflated products to people who WON'T remember to send the rebate
in to cover the refund to you!

At the end of the day, you were deemed "unworthy" to receive a rebate
because you failed to play by the rules of the game. End of story -
YOU LOSE!

If you don't like the hassle of submitting rebate forms within the
specified time frame, DON'T BUY THE MERCHANDISE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

& the fact that you are basically advertising here for everyone,
consumer and companies alike, that you are a nut-job, is only going to
serve to get you kicked off PFB for your idiotic ranting or worse
still, ridiculed and embarassed by the other members.

But I guess you probably already figured that one out, huh?. . .

The whole point of a rebate is to sucker you into buying the item and
forgetting to mail the rebate slip and all the do-dads that have to go
along with it including your original reciept, upc code, your
mother-in-law's maiden name and photograph of you actually in the
store! And all of this has to be turned in within minutes of the
purchase.

When you fall for the rebate thing, fill it out, be over with it and
move on.

If you life is too busy, go online and get it cheaper and dont bother
with the reciept.

How much is your time worth. By the looks of it, its worth a lot and
it isnt worth the time to fret over $50. True it sucks to miss out on
it but move on.

Theres much to much to enjoy in this world. So dont go out to eat one
weekend. There, got your $50 back!

Okay, I am sorry but I am not going to side with you on this one. If
you had two weeks from the date you purchased the item to send in the
rebate, you have no basis for a complaint. If you can't take five
minutes at any point during a period of 14 days to fill out the forms
and mail them, then you had better consider making drastic changes to
your lifestyle. If you are running yourself that ragged you are going
to end up dying very prematurely.

But I don't believe you. I think that you actually forgot to do the
rebate, and now you want Office Max or Konica to accomodate you. You
want them to be responsible for your negligence. And how dare you
accuse them of doing something that is "close to fraud" when you
failed to do what was required on your end?

You are claiming that you won't shop at Office Max again for the rest
of your life. Well, if you are honestly so busy that you need 30-60
days until you will have a few minutes to fill out rebate forms then
your life isn't going to be much longer. But as I said, I don't
believe you. This complaint is outrageous. You forgot to send in the
rebate or you were just to lazy to do it. And now you cry "fraud"
because you didn't hold up your end of the agreement.

Okay, and how long would it take to mail in a rebate form? Maybe one
or two minutes of your time???? I see no reason why that could not
have been fit into your busy schedule!

I don't think I can add much more to what's already been posted. The
rebate form has instructions. I've never been denied a rebate because
I read the directions and send it in on time.

If you're too busy to send it in by the date specified, you're just
too busy.

In the meantime, you may wish to consider whether or not this rebate
issue will really be that important 10 or 20 years from now. On your
death-bed will your last words really be, "I wish I spent more time
holding a grudge against Office Max"?

While we can't speak with authority to the merits of your story, we do
acknowledge that "rebate programs" are one of the biggest points of
frustrations with consumers. I encourage you to add your thoughts to

A similar thing happened to me too!

I bought an Osbourne computer back in the early 1980's, but didn't
bother to send in the $10 rebate until early last week. (I, too, am a
very busy person!)

Well, I was notified just this morning that I cannot collect my $10
rebate because the company went bankrupt only a couple years after I
bought the computer!

How DARE they treat me like this??!!

I will NEVER buy another Osbourne computer again!!!

(And I urge all you other readers to do the same!)

wow... your SO busy that you dont have 5 MINUTES to fill a simple form
out and send it in with the orig. reciept or whatnot... Oh, and by the
way, I know of many rebates that you can NOT send in after 90 days.
And don't bother threatning with "i'll never buy [this] again"..
because i don't think they'll give a damn about ONE customer. :-D

Oh, puh-leeze! You are so busy that it took you 30 days to perform a 5
minute task? How did you even find the time to go into the store and
purchase the printer then? It probably took you longer to post your
complaint than it would have to send in your rebate forms. I fail to
see how this is fraud or a ripoff. I think that people like you are
precisely the reason rebates exist - they bank on many overlooking the
deadline. I have forgotten to send in a few rebates too, but then I
just felt like kicking my own ass, not the store's or manufacturer's.

I've taken advantage of rebates for years and have rarely had any
problems. Based on the number of complaints I've seen about rebates,
I must be one of the lucky few.

Anyway, I have to agree with the others. In my experiences, the
timeframe for mailing rebates has never been more than a few weeks
(and I've used a lot of rebates).

It's not fraud when a company puts an expiration date on an offer.
You need to be more careful about checking expiration dates and more
diligent about getting the rebates mailed.

Your letter paints a picture of irrationality and scapegoating.

Though the philosopy that "the customer is always right" is a good
operating principle, this letter is just one of thousands that it just
isn't reality.

Sorry, sir, but you are the only one to blame. You deserve nothing.

send it in the day after I buy the item. I know.. i'm WILD!

I am curious how long the rebate offer had been going on. Was the
actual full time a 2 week period to send it in or was there 2 weeks
left to go before it ran out?

If you're so busy, how did you have time to even shop?

Two weeks is a "ridiculously short" timeframe in which to expect
someone to fill out a short form and pop it into the mail? Damn...
most of them don't even require you put postage on it.

You definitely are a psycho. Get your ass off the couch, put down the
remote and fill out your rebate form. You, through your own negligent
laziness, ripped yourself off.

I agree with other posters. Do you honestly not have enough time
within 2 weeks to fill out something so short? Unless your busy with
breathing, you should be able to take 10 minutes and fill out a
rebate. How long did you take to write this letter!? Did this happen 3
years ago and you just found time to write this?

And 180 days for a rebate? That's roughly 6 months! Obviously the
rebate doesn't mean much to you, or else you WOULD have found time to
do it.

You weren't ripped off, you were irresponsible.

You can't really be serious. You seriously think you can just send in
a rebate form any old time you want and the money will just kind of
magically be sent to you? Then when you by your own admission miss
the due date and get your rebate rejected, you have the audacity to
cry fraud?! Come on, it takes like five minutes to fill one of those
things out, and maybe another five to find a stamp and drop it in the
mail. You are not so busy you couldn't take a total of maybe ten
minutes to get your $50, especially since it now seems to mean so very
much to you. Another poster on this site (can't remember who, but you
know who you are! :)) once asked an equally unfounded complainant a
very funny and to the point question, which I will now put to you:
What color is the sky in your world?

Konica, not Office Max.

OMG-I still have a stitch in my side from laughing at this letter. I
am also a busy person-I work 2 jobs, run a house and have 3 kids (not
to mention have time to bellydance and scrapbook, plus respond to
these PFB letters). I also like to save $$$$! So you damn well better
be sure that rebates are in the mail in a couple days after I buy the
product. The faster they go out, the faster I get them back. Even the
ones I send out at Christmas time. And that's when I'm really busy.

So you screwed up and didn't check the expiration date on the rebate.
You didn't send it out in time. I'm sorry for you, it sucks to have
that happen to you. But you can't blame Konica or Office Max. As long
as the rebate was still good when they sold you the product, it's not
their fault.

I really, really hope that you learn from this experience. I hope the
next time you get a rebate, you don't procrastinate in sending it out.

I'm sure Office Max will get right on your demand to refuse to offer
rebates that require you to get off your butt and send in your
paperwork within 2 short weeks. Because they would be totally
heartbroken if you didn't shop with them again. (Rolls eyes)

So you think you should be exempt from the expiration date of the
rebate because you were busy? Having an expiration date on a rebate
constitutes fraud? You feel ripped off because you weren't the
exception to the rule? Yes, you are 'one of those psychos' who thinks
the world revolves around them.
