First of all, I completely agree with Karen. I was actually online looking for this bra because I could no longer find it anywhere, and my google search pulled up this string!
I am with you, sister!
Secondly, there are some real dumbasses responding to your post, Karen. I realise that a lot of smaller women do not know what big women go through to find clothing. To state "well, there are stores for larger sizes..." Um...yeah. There are like two in the city (2 million people) I live in. Woo. I mean, that is soo helpful.
But hey, gals, there are TWO stores to pick from! Quit your whining!
This seems to be more of the "shut up, fatso" mentality that is really a symptom of our sick society.
I can hear the response to that, now..."Well why don't you just stop eating, then you'll fit into normal clothes."
Guess what, women...
the average size of an American woman is 14-16. That's right. And not because we're all getting too fat, but because that is a normal woman's healthy body size (depending on height--I'm 5'10").
So...if only two stores in the city specialize in clothing for women over size 16...and half of the women are that size and up...you do the math.
IT DOESN"T MAKE SENSE.
So, call me fat, call me abnormal, tell me to quit whining, tell me I'm some kind of femmanazi or something...blow me off if you need to. Just remember that you can choose not to buy into our culture's anti-women messages. You don't have to play the game.
You will have to look really hard for cothing that fits, though.

Hey, sweetie, I hope there is more selection at another Target store in Cincinnati, or at target.com. I know things can hurt in a way that is not logical.

I order my bras through hanes their just my size bra line. Pay a little extra but I love these bras. I would marry these bras if I could.
You think you got a beef with Target? How about me and Spiderman? He made me gay! (anyone remember that site a few years back?)

I don't understand all of the crying. Ok, so Target phased out your bra size. Well, get a grip. I'm a plus sized gal as well and have found that over the years many stores have phased out bra sizes over a C and you know what I do? I go out and find another store that carries my bra size! Plus, the internet has THOUSANDS of online shops that you can find bras for plus sized gals. Instead of crying and acting a fool, buck up, and find a solution for pete's sake! I'm glad I wasn't present at your water works, grow up.

Something interesting I just realized. There are both plus-sized posters and petite-sized posters on here.
In general the plus-sizers believe they have a valid complaint, and will complain to try and get stores to stock their sizes.
In general the petite-sizers just realize the store does not stock their size, so they simply do not feel they need to complain, and just shop at a store that will carry their size.
There has to be a connection to something here.

Please get ahold of yourself. I can understand crying out of frustration but that won't help your problem. The best way to feel better is to solve the problem.
I had a similiar thing happen to me and I was really unhappy but I did not take it personally. The plus-size style I had worn for many many years was discontinued. First I wrote a nice letter to the manufacturor (you can wirte to the store) to see if they were going to replace it with another similiar style. When they said no I went on the prowl for something as close to the original as possible.
I never found anything as good but I did find a couple of things that worked pretty well. I then wrote another letter telling the manufacturer nicely they lost a long time customer. I realize it probably didn't make much of a difference to them because it's all about what works for them sales-wise but it made me feel better.
Don't let things like this upset you.You may even find something better.

I really didn't think too much about this letter until I saw that there were so many replies, so I read it again.
You obviously depend upon Target for affordable clothes in your size, and then realized they were starting to phase them out. Seeing that they also discontinued your bra size was probably the last straw. And then you lost it. For whatever reason, you reached the end of your rope that day. I can see that happening. I really can.
Maybe you lead a stressful life, and one of the things you relied upon was now being taken away, meaning you would have to start all over again looking for places to get what you need at a price you can afford. I would probably choose to scream, but you chose to cry. Everybody's different.
As far as nightmares are concerned, I can assure you I have had crazier ones than that. We have no control over what we dream (at least I don't think we do). You probably had it on your mind when you went to sleep. I can't tell you how many times I've had something similar happen to me. I certainly don't wake up thinking there's something wrong with me. On the contrary, it's probably quite normal.
Your only mistake was taking it personally. I am surprised that stores like Target and Sears are doing away with plus sizes, but I know there can only be one reason for such a decision, and that's MONEY! Trust me, it has nothing to do with you or anyone else who needs large sizes.
I actually think your letter (and the one written to Sears) is a good idea. If enough women request plus sizes, it might make these stores rethink their decision. In the meantime, there are lots of good suggestions in the comments here. It might take a little extra effort, but maybe you'll find things you like even more than what you were buying in Target.
Happy shopping!

I can sympathize if you're upset that Target doesn't carry bras in your size, but you have to be about the biggest drama queen I have seen here (and that's saying something)
Do you honestly expect us to believe you started sobbing at the store and then had nightmares afterwards because you couldn't purchase the bra you wanted? Just be honest, you threw that bit in so we'd all feel sorry for you.

Some of you need to grow up and realize that just because something isnt a big deal to you doesnt mean it isnt to someone else.
If it was a poorly written letter and you wanted to tear it apart for that, thats one thing. If it was a silly complaint full of outrageous demands and you wanted to attack it for that...thats another thing.
But attacking someone's mental stablility because of how they shared their feelings and emotions, whether they are emotions you would feel or not, is just sick.
If you dont like that...tough.

I'm not sure why this experience caused you to react the way you did, but I seriously think you should talk to your doctor about possible clinical depression. In my own experience, it doesn't always take much to become sad or angry at a seemingly trivial thing.
I don't think Target is trying to ignore a growing portion of its clientele. It probably has more to do with what brings in profits. I imagine that other departments of the store are more profitable. And anyway, considering the increasing number of stores that cater to plus-sized women, you're likely better off purchasing clothing at those places. When it comes to clothing, you definitely get what you pay for.
I, too, am a plus-sized woman who can't purchase lingerie in most department stores. Lane Bryant's catalog has a great selection of reasonably-priced clothing and undergarments that you can't find in the stores. (I would avoid the Venezia undies, though. I found them to be of inferior quality to Hanes or Jockey.) The URL is http://www.lanebryantcatalog.com/
The best place for a plus-sized woman to buy undergarments is Just My Size, a sister company of Hanes whose target clientele is plus-sized women. Although JMS specializes in undergarments, you can also buy clothing, sleepwear, and swimsuits and not spend a fortune. JMS sells most of the best-known bras, such as Bali, Glamorise, Playtex, and, of course, Just My Size. I've been able to purchase Playtex and Just My Size bras for less than $15 each.
I shop from the Web site, but you can also find stores in some outlet centers. The URL is http://www.jms.com/
If you prefer to shop at a department store for clothing, try Kohl's or JC Penney. You won't be able to purchase a bra at these places, but you can take advantage of the sales to find some good-quality plus-sized outfits at a reasonable price. If there's a JC Penney outlet store near you, it's an excellent place to look for outfits.
If for some reason you like more expensive clothing, try Elisabeth. Elisabeth is my favorite place to shop for clothing when the items are on discount. If you can take advantage of 50%-off sales or clearance items, you can get some beautiful clothes for a reasonable price. The company also sells socks and hosiery. (Elisabeth is the plus-sized arm of Liz Claiborne.) The URL is http://www.elisabeth.com/ Foley's also sells some clothes from this line. If you shop on the Internet, Elisabeth offers free shipping for orders over $150.
If you're looking for casual wear, try Old Navy. Although the selection is limited, I've been happy with the tops I bought from the Web site. The site often has sales on tops, bottoms, footwear, and undies, plus very reasonable $5 shipping on all orders. It's a sister company of the Gap, so you know the clothes will last.
Hope this helps.

I never implied, as one poster insinuated, that she be institutionalized. I said she "has issues". Clearly that is the case. I am the first one to admit that I am very sensitive and my feelings can be easily hurt. But I would never let something as minor as trying to find a bra cause a major meltdown and, personally, I think the whole having nightmares thing was a tad bit exaggerated.
But that's just my opinion.

Mary Jo, honey, no one is trying to attack you. Tickytack can be blunt, and so can you, and that is why I look forward to reading both your posts and see how you agree and disagree with mine! I don't think anyone here would ever pick on you about your divorce, we know it is a hard time for you, and I would think the vast majority of people on here respect that, tickytack included. I really do think that ticky was just stating an opinion about the letter writer here, who in all honesty probably should calm down a little and learn to appreciate her figure as part of what makes her special instead of something to be ashamed of.
Tickytack, I think you are right when you say the letter writer has issues. Obviously there are body and self-esteem issues going on there that have nothing to do with Target's marketing decisions. But those negative body images are reinforced by the fashion industry's refusal as a whole to incorporate plus sizing into their regular lines. It is easy for people who are comfortable in their own skins, like you and me, to shrug that off and get on with our lives. Some aren't so well-adjusted.
You guys are two of my favorite online personalities. I love reading your insightful and/or humorous takes on these letters! Let's all just get along, ok? :)

Whether it's "discriminatory" or not is academic, since it is perfectly legal almost everywhere in the country to discriminate based on size or weight.
However, considering our nation's increasing collective obesity, it seems like a terrible business decision for any clothing store to reduce it's selection of larger sizes. You would think they would be moving in the opposite direction.

Target is the WORST when it comes to plus sized ANYTHING!
I dont shop at Target for clothes. The few things they have are ugly. why is it they have major fashion designers for their other women's clothes but not for the plus sizes?
And some try to say that isnt discriminatory?!?!
Just dont shop there anymore.
There are other, and better places, to find a bra.
If nothing else start looking online.

When you have a large bust, cheap bras are just not an option, they can't provide the right support. You're better off going to Lane Bryant (they have bra sales all the time), where I found the bras may cost twice as much, but last 3 or 4 times longer.

Crying in a store like Target, having nightmares over the fact that they discontinued the size of bra you like and feeling shamed is way over the top - - and this situation is not discriminatory or sneaky - - it's business. Obviously for whatever reason the bra in plus sizes did not sell well enough to the masses for Target to continue stocking this item.
Did it ever occur to you that Maidenform may have stopped manufacturing this bra in your size and the high drama situation isn't Target's fault at all?

I'm not plus-size, but I am a D/DD, and I wouldn't buy a bra at Target.
I have to tell you... if you're anything larger than a C cup, Target isn't the place to go bra shopping. If you're a plus size gal and have a large bra size, you really should bite the financial bullet and go to a decent department store (Macy's, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, etc.) (or go to a reputable lingerie shop (NOT Victoria's Secret)) and get fitted for a bra that really fits you well.
And Target probably isn't being discriminatory, but rather perhaps found that that line of clothing wasn't selling well. Target is about one thing: the bottom line. Have you tried Lane Bryant? When that store first came to malls, I didn't even know it was plus-size clothing because the clothes were cool.
