Horrible Customer Service and Food Quality

To Whom It May Concern,

On Friday, June 8th at 10:55am I went to the KFC location on 14490 Memorial Drive in Houston, TX. I ordered a Medium Drink and a Large order of Potato Wedges. Once I completed my drink, I opened my cup only to find that there are several dead gnats (or small flies) floating
in my cup with my ice. (I have kept the cup and receipt for evidence.)

I am 5 1/2 months pregnant! Everything that I ingest is contributing to my baby's health. Not only am I concerned for myself, my baby is at risk also. I am disgusted and sickened by this event.

I contacted the manager of the location at 1:28 pm to notify her of the contents of my drink. She asked me "Well, what do you want me to do?" I replied that I wanted the contact information to the corporate headquarters so that I could file a complaint. She hung up on me.

I called the corporate headquarters and spoke with a customer service representative. She took down my complaint and said that a member of upper management will be in touch with me regarding the matter. I haven't heard from anyone.

I filed a complaint with the Houston Department of Health and Human Services. At the very least, this particular location should undergo a comprehensive inspection. No restaurant should allow something like this to happen to its customers.

I would like an apology, as well as the manager and the employee who fixed the drink to be reprimanded for the horrible customer service, and a refund of my money.

I hope that we can solve this problem in a mutually agreeable way. I would rather settle this issue with the company directly, than to seek an attorney.

Sincerely,
Erika D. Gloyd

I believe the store management should have handled this more
professionally, but honestly I agree with posters who say that if
you're pregnant and worried about your baby's health, it makes no
sense the you are at a fast food place eating fatty, fried,
high-sodium, low nutrition food.

A few gnats are not going to harm you or the baby. In fact, I think
they are probably less poisonous than greasy, processed fast food
loaded with preservatives.

The store owes you an apology and a refund. Don't be ridiculous and
get an 'attorney involved'

Well, if you're expectant, you shouldn't be eating KFC anyway. I think
you should use legal action, it would get you a lot more!

That IS nasty, but someone drinking soda and eating KFC wedge fries
will have a hard time convincing anyone that three gnats inadvertently
getting into her cup of soda endangered her unborn child more than her
mother's deliberate prenatal diet choices.

Pregnancy and eating by JME Wed June 14, 2006 @ 4:18 PM

For the first few months of my pregnancy, I lived on pineapple (which
I hated before), altoid gum and roast beef sandwiches. Oh, yeah, and
Dr Pepper. Everything else made me sick.

You have no grounds for a lawsuit. I PROMISE YOU, based on several
years of working in the legal field.

You and your unborn child were never at risk (sorry, dead bugs are
gross, but generally not harmful). Should the manager of the
restaurant have handled it better? Of course.

How the bugs got in the pop, I don't know. Large canisters of CO2 and
pop syrup get hooked up to the pop dispenser, and I don't recall
how/where bugs would get into the system. Bug of course love sugar,
and would love pop dispensers -- I bet the part where the pop actually
comes out and into the cups was disgusting.

Oh, and I don't think someone drinking soda and eating potato wedges
from a fast-food restaurant helps your case of "oh, the health of my
unborn baby is at stake."

That is gross, but I don't think it can damage your health.

Gnats can't live in stomach acid can they? Or thick layers of mucus?
I think you're good. And the fact they were dead, I don't believe
gnats carry diseases(?).
