Advance Moisture Protection repaired the wrong roof!!

Posted Sat June 17, 2006, by Dahlia J. written to Advance Moisture Protection Inc.

Failure To Provide Contracted Service In The Specified Timeframe

My husband and I hired this company to replace our garage roof. We met with the liaison and completed a contract for the proposed job. This company was chosen because they reassured us that they will complete the job by 6/16/06, which was clearly stated in the contract, signed in May, as we had a planned event for 6/17/06. We heard nothing for a while so we contacted them on 6/12 and were told that they would be coming on 6/15. Upon arriving home on the evening of 6/15, I realized that nothing was done to our garage roof. There was a dumpster on the street by the side of our home, filled with old roofing material and our garden in the front of our home was trampled, our flowers killed and some of our garden lights broken. There were also cigarette butts strewn everywhere along with nails and other debris. This was very puzzling to us as our garage is detached and in the rear of our home. The next morning my husband placed a call to the company and was told that the job was completed. Much to our dismay, our 3 year old house roof was 'repaired' and our 50 year old garage roof was not touched. There was communication between a person who identified herself as the manager Crystal and my husband where he was told, and two messages were left on our home phone, that the crew would be out on 6/17 to rectify the situation. We waited for the crew to arrive but they didn't. My husband called the cell phone number of the person in charge of completing the task and was told that it would not be done until 6/19 because the crew is unavailable because it is the Father's Day Weekend. We have since had to cancel our event. This is completely unacceptable. It seems as if legal action should be considered at this point, and will be if we are unable to arrive at a favorable solution. The terms of our contract have been violated.

We would like Advance Moisture Protection Inc. to replace our garage roof ASAP. Provide us with an airtight warranty for both our house and garage roof for the next 25 years, to cover ANY issues which may arise,(since they have now nullified our existing house roof warranty) and adjust the pricing of the job to reflect the inconvenience they have caused us.

mistakes happen... it is what is done following a mistake that tells
you how reliable the company is. other jobs may be scheduled which
prevent the return to your site immediately. inconvenience is often
our perception of the situation (I feel inconvenienced that I have to
put gas into my car so often). give the company opportunity to
replace your garage roof, guarantee your house roof, and clean &
repair the landscaping within a reasonable amount of time. if not
resolved within the agreed time frame, then seek counsel.

Make them hire professional landscapers to repair/replace what was
ruined in your garden as well! These people should be bending over
backwards to make you happy at this point. If you don't get complete
resolution to your satisfaction by the end of the week I'd get a
lawyer and sue their pants off! Good luck!

I currently work for a General Contractor and we use Advanced Moisture
Protection on numerous jobs we do. It is kind of scary that they are
this inept! I'm sure it is a different division and location but
still.

They need to compensate you, they need to guarantee both roofs for the
next 25 years and they need to correct this situation right quickly.

Good luck to you! Let us know what happens.

Why an event would have to be canceled due to a roof not being
replaced.

Though I do agree - wow. That is unbelievable. Hope they get
compensated.

This company sounds like it's run by morons. I think you should get
your money back and hire a different company entirely.

Wow. What a horrible business! I hope you file a complaint against
them with the Better Business Bureau, and also consider contacting
your local state attorney general's office -- they often get involved
in consumer's right cases/issues.

You'd think the crew would know something is up: Wouldn't they see
that the roof they're working on is in great condition? Would they
have had enough materials on hand to do the whole roof of a house,
considering the job was just supposed to be the garage?

And what company (1) plans only one day to put on a new roof
(although, you can bet that they didn't tear off your old roof, but
merely added another layer to the existing roof) and (2) waits until
the very last day to meet the contract deadline? What if it had
rained that day?

Holy cow. I'd be beyond furious. I wish you luck.

I assume that which roof was to be repaired was stated clearly in
the contract, and if so, you have a heck of a case.

I hope you get everything you asked for.
