You people don't understand that workers choose which time blocks they want to work. Seriously, Home Depot doesn't force their workers to stay till 9. They actually hire workers to fill in times that other workers don't have. For the consumer, staying open till 8 would be perfect on Sundays. One more point, I don't know if HD pays hourly, but if it does, then wouldn't working more give you more money?

I work at a Home Depot in PA and on Sunday our store is open from 7 am to 8 pm. We would LOVE to close at 6! Our managment tells us "Corporate" mandates that we must open at 7 and close at 8, and that all stores have these hours. Apparently they're LYING to us lowly "associates". Otherwise, this issue of closing at 6 wouldn't be posted, would it? Hard to believe that managment of the 2nd largest retailer on the planet would lie to its employees, isn't it? Greedy Bastards.
Oh, and lets get rid of all the HR managers so there's nobody to go to to complain. Nice touch, Mr. Blake.

OMG, you are an insensitive idiot! Those workers deserve their time at home. There is nothing you can do before 8pm that you can't do before 6pm. Now stop being so insensitive and get off your duff!

Actually, Nicole has every right in the world to SUGGEST that Home Depot have longer Sunday hours without everyone jumping her case. However, it is inappropriate to complain about the hours.

Let's just all agree that Sunday itself isn't long enough.
We could just get rid of Monday and make Sunday one 48 hour day. That way there would be plenty of time to get things done. We could have all-night cookouts, sleep in and buy alcohol during the second half of Sunday. Aaaaaah. (sways back and forth in hammock with whiskey-lemonade in hand)
Sure, we would still have to go back to work on Tuesday, but you can't have everything.

I have to agree with some of the replies. I work and have worked retail management for a large national department store for several years now. In that time I have met several great people. People who understand basic human respect. People who treat others the way they expect to be treated. Then i have met people like you. People who think that no matter what they are always right, people who think they deserve whatever they want, people who treat my associates and my fellow managers like we arent human because they cant use a coupon on a particular item or cant shop till whatever time they want to. Fact is most every retail store in this country is open long enough every day to serve most customers needs. Some stores even stay open longer than what should be necessary to meet average peoples needs. Sunday is the one day in this country when most people go to church, spend time with family etc... Even if youre not a religious person surely you can understand that sunday is a day of rest for all people. It never fails to amaze me on the Sundays that I work that some of the most hypocritical people out there shop in our store. You know the ones who go to church, eat brunch with their families and brag about how great they are, then they go shop and yell and scream that they cant get what they want in a store and treat everyone that works their like crap. Yea youre that person, the one who feels youre owed something. You arent owed anything. Shop when stores are open, plan ahead and get what you need to get your project done. Quit acting like youre owed something. NO ONE OWES YOU A DAMM THING!

Every person should be required to work in retail for at least a couple of weeks.
Then they will know how it feels.
You're letter is too demanding and unnrealistic.

As a employee of a retail store I see the affects of 'extended' hours first hand.
I work Sunday to Friday 8-6 Sunday, Monday, Tursday, Wednesday, then 11-9 on Thursday Friday late night shopping.
Over Xmas we open 8-12pm, the slow trickle of customers between 9.30 and 12 make it ridiculous to be open. Our sales weren't covering our staff needs.
A place like Home Depot would require alot of staff to function 6-10 on sundays, different departments etc... 99% of their customers would shop between 8 and 6, therefore they dont need to waste wages on remaining open.
This year I couldnt return home to my family for xmas as I finished work at 8pm xmas eve and started work 7am boxing day. At the time I had no friends or family where I live and had to spend xmas alone.
The demands on retail stores are ridiculous. WHY should we work around YOUR schedule, yours and every other pricks.

Oh get over it. Employees have lives too. I mean, couldn't you have gone earlier in the day to get your supplies? You are very rude to demand that a store stays open later to suit your needs.

Try this for better results...
Dear Home Depot:
I wanted to send you some feedback regarding your Sunday hours in Crawfordsville, IN. I understand that traditionally, stores have shorter hours on Sundays, but Sunday is a day that a lot of us use to work on home projects. Since you close at 6, it does not allow me time to pick up things I need, such as plywood, that I can only get from you.
I would like to suggest that since we have daylight until almost 10PM, that you extend your hours, even on Sundays. Even if just for the summer. I'm sure a lot of your customers would be thrilled with this, and it would give you a leg up on the other home improvement stores.
Thank you for listening,
Nicole B.
...you'll catch more flies with honey.

She makes a great point. All companies should be open until 10pm on Sunday. The problem is, she wouldn't have time to do her projects or shop at HD because she would be working every Sunday until 10pm at her own company. Hopefully she wouldn't complain about working late on Sunday because that would make her a hypocrite.

A complaint like this is the one thing that used to piss me off BIG TIME when I worked at HD. the Home Depot I used to work at was open Mon-Sat 6am- 10 pm everyday and 7AM-7PM on Sundays!!..thats 108 hours open out of 168 hours in a week!!.. if you cant find the time to get your supplies during those hours TOUGH CRAP!!... yes retail employees are human and they do have families that they would like to see and spend time with also...it has nothing to do with God...its called quality time...
plus you had all day to go to HD to get your screws and plywood...its not HDs fault that you didnt get to the store during normal business hours!!

You would definately hate living where I do then. (BTW I live in Germany) Stores here close at 8 Monday-Saturday, and are not opened on Sundays or German holidays.
It taught me alot about not putting things that I needed off until I felt like getting them, I need to get them before the store closed and extra on saturday, just in case I was anywhere near close to running out of something.

Okay, I feel compelled to ask the obvious. Why can't you go during the week and get the plywood you need? That way, it will be waiting for your hubby and y'all don't have to worry about Sunday hours and family time.
Or would that be too hard? Much easier to complain to the web than it is to actually find a solution to your problem.

Okay there are several factor's as to why HD would close at 6pm rather than 8pm, maybe they do not get enough customers after 6pm so it is not worth them keeping the store open and paying employee wages and electric bills. I am sure that you could come back the next day, or come back earlier. They were open later, perhaps they did not make enough profit as they should when it was open till eight. Also what's wrong with wanting to spend time with their family atleast once a month. You have children yourself, would you not want to see them before they went to bed, especially if they were very young and go to bed at eight, would you not want to see your children, tuck them in before they go to bed.

Nicole, no one here is attacking you. They are disagreeing with the tone in which you wrote your letter. You are choosing to see it as an attack for reasons of your own.
If you were politely suggesting that Home Depot stay open later on Sundays, probably no one would even have disagreed with you. You are not politely suggesting anything, however, and that is what posters are responding to.
Your letter seems to forget an important point. The people that work at Home Depot are in fact people, not robots that can be turned on and off in order to suit your personal schedule. The number of days a week you and your associates work has nothing to do with anything, and doesn't invalidate the fact that if Sundays are for "doing projects," then they aren't for working, no matter where you work.
Home Depot is under no obligation to be open according to your needs, and in fact isn't the only hardware store on earth. Why didn't you try going to another one?

So I read the rude post before this one and Nicole...you are blowing EVERYTHING way out of proportion! I didn't see any attacks...and ask any of them, I am the first one to point out attacks...even if they aren't really as brutal as I interpret them.
As for your letter, I feel no sympathy for you. the prject could have been researched ahead of time and you could have made it to HD before they closed, I enjoy getting off work early on Sunday's (and i work for Ruby Tuesday). When you work at a place that is open until 10 or 11 everynight, that one night is NOT too much to ask for to have a family or life of your own. And why do you need your boyfriend to be home to get the plywood? People at HD are generally very helpful with home projects! It's what they are about!

If you keep calling a child stupid, especially your own fresh and blood, well then they start to develop problems, they feel badly about themselves becasue that's all they here, it does not leave any visible scare like physical abuse does, but it does leave the child with emotional scare and can be worse than physical, if you are doing this you need to stop, calm down(count to ten) and then discipline your children.

If you tell your child that did something stupid that's acceptable, but if you tell them that they are stupid that's just wrong. How would you like it if someone called you stupid.
