Write a Letter to this Company
I went into Pet Supplies Plus to get some treats and toothpaste and on my vet's request I was going to buy a halti/muzzle for training purposes. When I got to the counter the girl looked at me with absolute disgust and asked "why are you buying a muzzle?" I replied it was for training my pup. She said "WHAT? Your putting a muzzle on a puppy? Thats inhumane!" I told her that the "pup" I was speaking of was my 7 months 65 pound boxer mix. She told me that the muzzle was "completely inhumane" and that I would be better spending the $150 on a shock collar. I told her my vet specifically told me to not use citronella or shock collars because of his temperment/attitude, it could make him worse. She completely belittled and de-humanized me. I felt like the worst dog owner in the world. To make matters even worse the customers in line in front of me were buying flea carpet powder, she told them not to buy it but instead to put the dog in the room with the fleas since he was treated and the fleas would jump on him and die off. Why in the world would you tell someone to put there dog through that? This employee was absolutely wrong and for that I will never shop at this pet store again....
Tell their employees that unless they are asked for advice, not to offer it. This girl didn't even look old enough to be out of high school-why should she treat me like that? How nice is that, the pet store makes pet owners feel like they are bad owners...how does that make sense?

i have a 2 yellow labs with excellent temperments and we still have to use a muzzle on our one becaus ehe has sensitive paws and if you touch them, specially a stranger such as a vet he'll try to snap, not hard, but it's distracting when your trying to clip his nails.
that girl has no idea what sh's talking about. a chock collar? that inhumane.

Was it a Halti or a muzzle? A Halti does nothing to stop a dog from using it's mouth or jaws. Having had a dog that liked to walk his owner, the Halti was the greatest thing ever. If anyone is tired of being dragged around by a dog I would suggest one. The dog will take some time to get used to it, but the walks are a thousand times easier on backs and shoulders.
A Halti is in no way inhumane.

I agree with you -- she was over the line. If muzzles are so inhumane, why does her employer sell them?

Please take this a step further and call the store and complain to the manager.
This person, although probably just immature, has no business working with the public.
DGirl - I agree about the Eleanor Roosevelt post. I also have learned that people who belittle others are generally insecure about themselves and have to make up for it by berating others.
Good lesson to learn!
