It has been almost two weeks since the last comment, so I guess I made
the deadline. I don't have anything substantial to offer, but as a
former hs teacher, I am amused by ill fated attempts to change the
behavior of others. Your intentions are good however.

first of all some of us may not get on until two weeks past the date,
and still would like to comment on it. Don't ya think this is a tad
bit selfish? just becasue you have the time of day to look at these
when ever, some of us have other lives and responsibilities... just my
view point.

I just find it funny the ppl who want i tto go away are obviously
still viewing and commenting on it...making it stay longer :) Just an
observation

Personally, I wish THIS letter would go away.

However, with all due respect to the OP, I don't think any of us have
the right to dictate to which letters people can and cannot reply,
regardless of how long the letter's been around.

Isn't it ironic that this post is number 1?

I think personal blogs should not wind up in the top 20. No offense to
anyone but it isn't always constructive to have them there. It takes
up valuable space.

Mea Culpa! OK, I admit I unleashed the PFB beast here, and now I
guess it's my job to reign it back in. (Next time I'll know better!)

While I recognize that your first post about PETA appeared to be just
as tongue-in-cheek as mine, somehow it spiraled into a horrific flame
war which was EXACTLY what I myself was protesting with my letter (I
trust you actually READ my letter before you posted, right?)

I have been on PFB for years - Even back when it was YouGetHeard.com.
I have recommended it to MANY people both professionally and
personally and when comments like this spiral out of control that are
irrelevant, inappropriate and COMPLETELY off topic, it makes the
community look like we're nothing but a bunch of vicious pirhana with
nothing better to do than attack each other. Then other people (and

I don't want something that I promote to others to give that kind of
impression. Clearly it would make ME look bad and I'm not ABOUT to
purposefully make myself look like that!

Now, I sincerely hope you won't think I am singling you out because I
know you were not alone in the discussion by any means. But since
your message kind of "launched a thousand other messages" I am
addressing this (sort of) to you.

If you disagree with a commenter, fine. Disagree all you want, but
the disagreement really needs to be relevant to the original letter or
please take it offline.

When people start nit picking every comment, getting offended or irate
and then get off topic (and I admit, I have been guilty of that on a
few occasions) it contibutes to messages being here WAY longer than
they need to be - that's why I posted my letter.

Sure I don't HAVE to read Nichole's post or the Eljer toilet post
again - I already know that nothing new has been added. But it still
irks me that another really good letter might be out there waiting for
some feedback (hence, the name PLANET FEEDBACK) and it's not getting
up there because of things like this.

So I hope that you can appreciate where I am coming from and
respectfully ask that you help me out by being the bigger person and
just letting this go before the post gets any more long winded than it
already has.

OK, forgive me if something like this was posted below. I find that I
reply to top 20 letters only because they are so easy to find. Maybe
I am doing something wrong but I find it incredibly difficult to find
the "new" letters. I usually use My Yahoo to find them since if I
click on "shared letters," I get a search engine.

It could also be that new people to the site think that they can
comment on the new letters (at least that is what I thought at
first).

The point that I am hoping to make is that if it were easier to see
and post on the "new" letters, maybe the top 20 would change more
often. (it's no fun to be the only person to post to a letter)

Perhaps instead of pleading to the users, you should plead to the PFB
team to change the qualifications of getting a letter on the top 20.
If it's not there, people won't post (for the most part).

If it bothers you so much, just stop reading the letter.. lol, that's
what I do. I don't think asking users to not comment on old letters is
the answer. Take me for example, I was off of PFB for a while and now
I just came back, and I'm going to participate in the letters I've
missed :P.

something you are trying to fight against....

Maybe "top 20" is too lofty of a goal? Maybe reduce it to "top 10"
and at least they'll drop out of site that much more quickly.

. . .that the messages never be commented on again. I am also not
blaming the OP's for posting the letters in the first place.

My personal (and believe me, I KNOW it is JUST my opinion!)
frustration comes from posts that sit on the top 20 for WEEKS with no
new advice or information added and just collect snips and barbs from
responders and a continual re-hash of information that was posted
already.

I have personally emailed Mr. Helpful about this subject and there is
apparently some sort of calculation involved that automatically
selects which messages wind up on the Top 20. What people don't
seemto understand, is that when we post trivial (and you have to
admit, most of the posts added beyond a week or two are assuredly
trivial!) comments, it affects that calculation and keeps the message
up there longer than it has to.

There doesn't seem to be any mechanism to manually intervene with a
letter that is clearly serving no useful purpose anymore and would
make room for a new letter to be reviewed.

And to those people who chose to take my comments here personally,
please read my letter again. I did not TELL anyone what they should
do, I was merely asking. I was also seeking to make light of the
subject because it is kind of humorous that more than a month later,
we're STILL debating whether kids should be singing in a dressing room
(& sorry, Nichole, nothing personal against you, but your letter is
assuredly going down in the hall of fame just for the incredible
response it received!) when thre HAS to be something else new we could
move on to.

All I am asking for is for people to use a little discretion and not
post replies to old letters just for the sake of posting.

Whereas my letter is STILL in the top 20... I posted on it June 26
and then my next post was on August 1 or something like that... so
don't blame me! Over a month without adding anything to it on my end.

Regardless of that, I do wish that the Top 20 would have a timeout on
them so they would slowly fall of the list. I would suggest that
after a 6-8 weeks from the original letter submit date, it is not
eligible for the Top 20 and if it is on the Top 20, it would just fall
away at that point.

You could still comment on the letters, they just would not be in the
Top 20.

I looked at some of the top 20 list and will someone explain to me
about Lisa S. who's 15th right now? She didn't even post a complaint
against a company did she? Perhaps I don't understand everything
about this site.

If people have something to say, they should say it. My (or your)
opinion on a letter is no less valid whether the letter is 14 days old
or 14.

If there's a problem, PFB could disable commenting on letters after X
days, but I think that's too rash.

I wasn't aware there was a time limit. If you personally don't want
to post then don't. But i wasn't aware that i had to listen to
someone tell me when to post and for how long. I was pretty sure this
was my discretion.

I am sorry. I thought you could offer some suggestions. It wasn't me
who started it again, let me show you what Jeffrey wrote above in
response to the section I wrote here called "Who Is Lisa S?".

THAT was what he wrote. Like you, I thought things were done. I
responded to him but I don't want it going back and forth forever,
with new people each time.

I made an error writing you about it but I thought since everyone says
how level-headed you are, perhaps you would know how it can be stopped
once and for all. I apologize but I just don't want to rehash things
over and over and over again.

I'll use this as a topic in my profile either later today or during
the week, as this is not the place to discuss it any further.

Feel free to say whatever you want there. Maybe you'll even get some
good suggestions and advice from others. Actually, if you are unhappy
with something Jeffrey said, it would be a good idea to tell him about
it in his profile. That's why we have them, to keep the letters more
on topic. I think you'll agree that Jeffrey is a reasonable guy and
easy to talk to.

As a big fan of irony, I recommend that this letter be continuously
commented on and kept in the the Top 20 for the next three months.
