Holly's starting a new trend. We're proud to support her efforts
Today I received a letter, sent to the president of the company for which I work, that noted dissatisfaction with a product I help develop. This particular individual took the time to point out a very specific detail about the product and how it didn't conform to her needs. And while I respect this opinion, it occurred to me that, despite the extraordinary success of the product in question, I've never received a letter commending the positive aspects of the product.
People never seem to write letters to company presidents when they're happy, do they?
For this reason, I wanted to take the time today to work on a new trend. I am writing you to let you know that I have been consistently thrilled (not just satisfied, but thrilled) with the service and products I have received from your company. I have shopped with Amazon.com for approximately 9 years and have enjoyed every transaction. Your customer service is stellar, prompt, and courteous, your product selection is comparable to no one else, the website easily navigable and a pleasure to use, and I have never received a product from you that I did not thorougly enjoy both in terms of quality and fulfillment of its description.
I always come to Amazon.com first for my media purchases, and I always recommend Amazon.com to my friends. In fact, even when I wish to recommend a product, such as a book or music selection, I use the Amazon.com weblink to do so.
So thank you for your stellar service and your dedication, and please keep up the good work.

You make a good point about people not bothering to compliment companies because they don't feel their compliments matter, especially when the companies don't respond.
I suppose I've been quite fortunate in my correspondence with companies -- most of the positive letters I have written do receive some measure of acknowledgement (though certainly not all). And just to honor them for their service, some companies I'll note for being especially good about responding to customers are: Pier One Imports (I always write them when they have a new product I like, since I tend to hope this will keep the products available), Amazon.com, Burger King, and Sprint/Nextel. I've found that most fast food restaurants do not respond to complaints or compliments, and I presume this is largely due to their franchised nature. Still, it only takes a few minutes to let these companies know that I like one of their new products or had a good experience in one of their chains.
Thanks for your input!
