Nintendo lies to it's customers

Write a Letter to this Company
Nintendo does not live up to their word. There has been multiple examples of how they have disappointed their customers, but the latest example goes over the line.
If you play video games, you know by now that Nintendo has been working on a game called Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Gamecube.
Well, the game has been delayed for almost 2 years now. Nintendo told Gamecube owners that the game would be only on the Gamecube. (LIE #1)Then at E3 2006 in May of 2006, they announce that the game is coming to their new console, the Wii as well, and both games will come out on the same day. (Lie #2) Now, on September 14th, we are told that the Gamecube version will not be out until 3 weeks AFTER the Wii version.
The game was supposed to be for the Gamecube owners! Now, we are forced to wait another month, because Nintendo wants to sell more Wii's?!
I am totally convinced that the Nintendo Gamecube was a throw-away console. The games that did come out for it sucked, or were trickled out at a snail's pace. A lot of the games were cancelled, and moved to the Wii. Nintendo's people admit to have been working on the Wii BEFORE the Gamecube came out, thus confirming my thoughts about the Gamecube being a throw-away console.
I would like Nintendo to start actually making a console that can compete with Sony and Microsoft, not some under-powered child's toy. I want to see 3rd party support, and some actual mainstream games. I don't want to be enticed with "innovative" gimmick controllers. I want an actual NEXT-GEN console.
I want Nintendo to get off their high-horse, and to STOP delaying games. Is it too much to ask that Nintendo meets one deadline?! I also want Nintendo to stop making statements that raise people's hopes and expectations, and then only disappoint us all later.

So, i guess this is a whine fest.
Let's review your 'statements' shall we?
Lie #1, Twilight Princess is actually on both the Wii and the Gamecube. Where exactly is the bad news in this?
Lie #2, so the Gamecube version has been delayed even further.
If you got a Gamecube hoping to play TP, then wouldn't you get a Wii to play it? Wouldn't you get a Wii in general for other games and for the sake of loving Nintendo?
What you're doing is being overcritical and impatient; already bashing the Wii before its initial release. That goes for TP too.
When they set deadlines, they aren't promises, they're goals they'd like to achieve. You need to realize that stuff happens! There are reasons as to why the game has been delayed.
Furthermore, I believe Twilight Princess is the only game to have been delayed. Lighten us all, what other deadlines are they not meeting??
Don't go all gung-ho on everything else Nintendo does just because you can't wait an extra three weeks for TP and/or because you're too lazy to buy a Wii or already unimpressed with it.
Think about it. (Literally think)

While it's certainly unfortunate that Nintendo has had to reverse its earlier statements, I can certainly understand why they did so. See, in the past, when an excellent game came out for a current-generation console right at the moment a next-generation console was comming out, the game tended to be overlooked, underbought, and underappreciated. Just one example is "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" for the SNES, which came out in 1995 when the Playstation was getting all the press and attention.
I can't fault Nintendo for learning from its past mistakes: that's what any smart company does if it wants to stay alive.

Here's an opinion from a 15-year old (my son)... haha
I used to play the Zelda games, and I may not have a Gamecube now, but I know I've seen this Zelda game on the 'coming soon shelf' at EB Games FOREVER. I can't believe the idiots at Nintendo are waiting for Wii to come out before releasing this game, just because they want it to come out for Gamecube and Wii at the same time. I mean, I can understand if they are having some problems with the game, but to wait for Wii to come out so the Gamecube one can come out with it, sucks. Zelda fans shouldn't have to wait for a whole new system to come out before they cay get a game that was originally planned for just Gamecube long before.
Plus, Gamecube should come out with more T-Rated games. Almost all of their games are E-rated, and like 1 or 2 are rated M. That's why I traded in my Gamecube for PS2.
COME OUT WITH BETTER GAMES NINTENDO!!!

We own all three (PS2, X-Box and Gamecube. In addition to some classic, Atari and Sega. Plus a few hand helds.) here is what we have figured out:
The X-Box is for ADULTS. Look at the games they have. Most are geared to the 20+ crowed. (Yes I know younger kids play them. Their parents buy them. But that is another issue)
The PS2 is geared for 10 and above. Again, look at the games.
The Gamecube is geared for UNDER 10. Look at the games and the size of the controller. The contoller is smaller and fits in a child's hand better.
There are many reasons games are delayed. Most times, there are a lot of bugs that they want to work out first.
Would you rather have a Buggy game (Like most of the X-Box 360 are)? Or wait a bit longer and get a game that works? The World wont end if you don't get you game when you want it.

Man, I feel your pain on the delay of this game! I reserved a copy for GameCube so long ago that I'm sitting here doing that stare-off-into-space thing trying to remember how long ago it was. Since then, every time GameStop has called it has been either for some other, less exciting game I've reserved or to tell me that yes, Twilight Princess has been delayed again. *shoulders slump, looks dejected* I also was worried to see the number of games originally intended for GC defecting over to the Wii.
That said, I don't think that the GameCube is by any means a "throw-away" console or an "under-powered child's toy." I bought mine when they were bundled with the Legend of Zelda collector's edition (all the Zelda games on one disk), and considered it a bargain for $99, even if they never made another game for it. And they did make some great games for it! Time and again I find myself getting out those silly looking cartoon controllers to play Wind Waker, or Animal Crossing. And when I want my fix of freaky ****, I get out Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem or Hunter: The Reckoning, easily among the top five horror survival games in my (embarassingly large) collection. Besides all that, the Mario franchise is maybe the most light-hearted fun in gaming history! I can't tell you how many drunken evenings of MarioParty my friends and I have spent. (I know, I know, I'm a geek.)
It certainly does seem that Nintendo is putting more effort into developing new games for the Wii than in getting me my Zelda fix, but isn't that really to be expected? With any luck, if they can put enough thought into creating both the new console and Twilight Princess, they will both be something truly amazing.

I guess I'm not sure why you haven't figured this out yet.
If you were a gamer from way back like I was (Atari, Coleco, etc.) you'll remember that the Nintendo games were about Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, etc. They were mostly role playing and fantasy games. But they were marketed to all the major platforms.
Then, as Nintendo realized they could make more money licensing their game characters to games in a line that was ONLY for Nintendo, the NES, SNES and N64 were born.
Likewise, Sony and Micorsoft now market THEIR games to THEIR machines. It is all a monopoly to make more money.
Everything the companies do is in their own interest. If they are holding back games, it is likely because they think they will make more money and generate more interest that way. They didn't lie to you, they just chose to strategically change their mind. They don't make any money caring what their customers think and you won't change that fact with this letter.
Look at how many times Nintendo has released a "new" platform over the past 10 years. Every time you get used to one system, they bring out a new system that is supposedly better and only release new games for that. It basically forces you to upgrade (and thus generates them more money) every few years whether you want to or not.
My advice if this truly bothers you this much is to consider sticking with the Sony or Microsoft platforms if you disagree so strongly with Nintendo's practices.
(and FYI, I'd be more irritated with XBox, personally. It's the ONLY platform I don;t have in my house and I will not permit it because I don't like Bill Gates' practices. That is the ONLY way you are going to be able to truly get your message across to a company is by hitting them where it hurts - their bank account!)

I have a Gamecube and for me, it's the best system out there. I'm not a hardcore gamer and I LOVE the Zelda series (with the exception of Majora's Mask - couldn't stand that one), so it was a no-brainer which gaming system I'd eventually invest in.
Nintendo has a deserved reputation for producing quality games and if it take them a little longer to put out something as awesome as I expect ZELDA:TWILIGHT PRINCESS to be, hey, I'm all for it. It sucks to wait, but that's life.
And considering how expensive the next-gen systems are, I won't be buying into any new video game technology for a good long while, if ever. I'd rather spend that $300 - $400 on DVDs.

I currently have a Xbox, PS2 and a GameCube. Between my husband and I, we have had a NES, SNES, N64, PS1, DreamCast, Old School Sony consoles (they are escaping my mind right now...) Atari... almost every system to be honest with you All of the gaming systems have had games delayed. It comes with the technology. They can't release a game if there are significant glitches and they can't truly guesstimate when those glitches will all be worked out. The R&D for a video game is enormous and it is a long process.
And I would like to point out that Nintendo is notorious for having family friendly systems and games. They always have been. That is their thing. And it works enough for them. They could step up and create systems like the Xbox and the Playstation but then they would lose parts of their target market... the young ones. If it wasn't for Nintendo (stricking when we were young), many people wouldn't have the passion for video games that they have now. In my opinion.

Get off your mom's couch and out of the basement - get a job and buy the company - maybe you can manage it better -
sincerely -
Satoru Iwata, President, Nintendo Co., Ltd
P.S. - The process of creating video games is a very complicated one, involving years of development by engineers, artists, creative designers, etc. In addition, the detailed programming for today's 3D games requires extensive testing.
Our goal is to meet projected release dates for games, but sometimes we have to alter our plans to ensure the game quality you expect from us is met. We'd rather delay the release of a game than have you purchase a game that doesn't meet your expectations. Also, most games are created and developed by our engineers in Japan, and the process of translating games from Japanese versions to their American counterparts is lengthy and complicated.
Though they are subject to change, the dates we publish in Nintendo Power magazine and on our website represent the most accurate dates available at press time.

The time to research these things is way before purchasing a console. It's a shame so many people jump on the wrong bandwagon time and time again and expect the company to make games for somththing they are "totally convinced that Nintendo Gamecube was a throw away console" It may well WAS. So something new and better came along that sells much better...why waste R&D money on a game for an outdated system.
It's a dog eat dog competitive environment... one company blinks one too many times and they lose!!!
Just the way things are...

Man! You "gamers" are serious about this stuff arent you? LOL!
Its ONLY a VIDEO GAME! It isnt the end of the world. I thought by now that EVERYONE knew that no matter what kind of electronics you buy a newer and better one is on its way down the line while you are check out.
Thats how it goes. Such is life.
Maybe the best idea would be to forget the video games and go out and do something productive with your time.
And dont take your video games so seriously!

Don't listen to the haters!
Understand though, there is rarely a game that has come out on time, even for other consoles like the Xbox and PS2. A lot of games I was anticipating have been delayed. Just think of it in a way that they are working harder on the game and it'll be less buggy and higher quality, which are definitely things worth waiting for.
The Wii is supposed to kick butt and although I think I will still be supporting the rumoured-expensive PS3, I would definitely still look into getting a Wii.
Don't think the Gamecube is a throw-away console. The Gamecube as it is is still awesome. I have one and although school tends to get in the way, there are still plenty of great games to play.
Also don't forget the Wii will be backwards compatible all the way to the NES!

I'm twice your age almost! :) I went to a party a few years ago where they had the old-style Atari set up! It was such a blast to play TANKS again!
And I agree with your point about the game may be delayed as they work out bugs in the system. Don't we have to assume that Nintendo will release the game as soon as possible? I bet Nintendo isn't thrilled at the delay either, as they're losing potential revenue.

And it's not even like it's only nintendo.. every console has had a lot of delayed games. It's just the way things work.
I'll be crossing my fingers for the release of the WOW expansion, but I won't be holding my breath...
