Thanks for making your menu more kid-friendly, Panera Bread!

On Saturday, September 23, I was in the mood for your smokehouse turkey panini but was reluctant to go because I was out with my 12 year old son, who is somewhat of a picky eater. Historically we have had issues with the "kid friendliness" of your menu, but decided on Saturday to give it another try at your Warrenton, VA location. I am so glad we did! Thank you so much for changing your children's menu!
My son ordered your peanut and butter jelly sandwich (made with organic peanut butter) and I was very happy to see it arrived, not with chips and soda, but with an organic strawberry yogurt tube and a container of milk. Furthermore, it looks like you have switched the bread for your sandwich. I have always had to prod my child into eating his sandwich because, in his words, the bread is "too hard" or "too chewy". Invariably, he leaves half of his sandwich on his plate, which is very frustrating. This trip, however, the whole grain bread was nicely soft with a slightly chewy crust. My son devoured his whole sandwich without complaint (a novelty!).
I am thrilled with our experience and can't wait to go back. Thank you again for listening to your consumers and modifying your menu to suit their needs without compromising on the quality and freshness of your product.

Unfortunately, panera bread was one of my favorite spots to conduct business or relax in a quiet calming atmosphere, until now. I went in a few weeks ago and was mortified to see a yuppie family of 4 with the SUV stroller, the high pitched squealing, them crawling all over and the area looked like a war zone! I then saw two more yuppie families just like them come in and knew my plans to have a relaxing lunch were out the window so I got my lunch to go and ate it out on the sidewalk. There are plenty of places for people with children to go, first it was Starbucks, now it's Panera Bread, isn't anything sacred?

It sounds like the company is actually listening, as I remember other letters requesting more kid-friendly items on the menu. I'm sure it will make a lot of parents happy.
If Panera can get a picky eater to devour a sandwich, that's some testimonial!
Excellent letter!

Thanks Deborah for writing such a nice letter to a company to let them know their choices on their menu items actually help people make better decisions, even "picky" eaters. Shows them that they are going in the right direction and maybe challenges their competitors to follow suit if MORE people wrote letters like this!
Very Well Done!!!

What a nice letter.
Saying your son is picky reminds me of my brother when he was a kid. God forbid if two foods on his plate touched. And to put two different foods in his mouth at the same time? Forget it. On top of that he was picky about what he would eat.
Now you should see the variety he eats. Who knows, your son may outgrow it, too.

That's great! I love to hear about kids eating more healthfully in these days of fat- and sugar-laden snacks. I'll admit, I sometimes miss good ol' white bread. GOod for Panera to responding to parents' requests.

How wonderful!!
Great letter first thing.
Second thing..Good for Panera! Maybe they realized they were excluding a very large chunk of customers by not catering more to kids.
Now...if only I could get my son to eat peanut butter! LOL! I swear, anything a normal kid would eat..he wont.

Great letter!
I'd love to be a 'fly on the wall' at some of my local Paneras, once it becomes known that they are becoming more 'kid' friendly. Some will not take too kindly to it. Heh.
