Rude Fliight Attendants

Posted Sun October 8, 2006 8:43 pm, by Joel J. written to United Airlines

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

I needed to go to the restroom however many people on the plane needed to go as well so when it was empty I proceeded to use the restroom hoever a rude airline attendant told me to sit down and don't move and gave me serious attitude I felt very upset because all those before me were white and i'm black, and I was unable to use United Airline on board restroom.

Send me two free tickets to Las vegas round trip plus room and broad at the Wynn resort and casino.

Are you sure this is a legit story? Are you sure Joel J is really
black?

Seems to me to be a ruse to grab attention to further the stereotype
that "black people are greedy."

I've seen lots of posts where people post something controversial,
then say "I'm black and I was discriminated against."

Something doesn't add up here - especially the phrase "Send me two
free tickets..." Realistically, who is that directed at? Certainly
not the alleged airline - Joel J doesn't even identify an airline that
he would want to reimburse him.

Use your head, people... and stop giving in the the racist bashing.
Some of you have reacted in the exact way that Joel J intended you to.
Have you ever heard of a straw man?

If I posted a letter that said:

"I wanted to stow my luggage, but the flight attendant told me I
couldn't it was too big, but other people had much bigger luggage.
This was on a Japanese airline, and I was the only white person on the
flight. I was really upset.

Send me two tickets... etc etc."

Would you have reacted in the same way?

What a joke! Just another "homey" trying to get something for nothing.

I understand that you're upset, but demanding two round trip tickets
to Las Vegas and room and board at a specific hotel and casino isn't
going to get you anything.

Reply

by larry Rembrendt Posted Sun October 15, 2006 @ 4:00 AM

Did you ask the attendant why you have to sit down. Maybe the
aircraft was entering turbulance or close to landing and was done for
your protection. I'll bet if you fell and got injured you'd sue the
airlines AND ask for 2 roundtrip tickets to Vegas as well as the
Resort lodging.

Lucky you didn't get arrested when you deplaned. Under the current
State of Emergency refusal to obey any instructions from a air crew
member is considered an act of terrorism.

Always they have to say is "I felt threatened" and the secret police
will be waiting for you.

by eydie Posted Fri October 13, 2006 @ 5:29 PM

She probably told you to sit down because it was important that you
sit down at that time. I think the reason we have so many problems is
that everyone gets so offended so easily. I don't like it when the
first thing that comes out of a person's mouth is "it's because i'm
black. Or it's because i'm a woman, or it's because i'm this or
that." It's not, nine times out of ten. I am guilty of taking things
too personally sometimes and it almost always turns out i'm just being
paranoid. No one owes you a trip to Vegas or a hotel room or casino
priveleges. I assume you meant "board" not "broad" or that gives a
whole new meaning to your list of demands. Nice try, though.

Ok, some of you may have noticed that your comments are now missing
from this letter. Here's why.

Despite the merits (or lack thereof) of this letter, it is not
appropriate to refer to the letter writer as an "idiot" or a "scammer"
or telling him to "get a life." The problem with commenting angrily to
letters like this is that it gives visitors to the site the impression
that that's what this site is all about - bashing people. It's
important that people take the site seriously. That can't happen if
people are afraid of being attacked for expressing their opinions.

I know you guys don't like letters like this one. I don't either. In
fact, I recommended having it deleted. But here's the thing - there is
absolutely no way to prove that this guy is scamming. None. And since
it can't be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's made up,
there's no grounds for deleting it. Removing letters just because we
don't like them takes the site down a slippery slope I don't think
anyone wants to go down.

So all I'm asking you to do is please, stop resorting to personal
attacks in your comments. There's plenty of clever and non-abrasive
ways to show your displeasure with a letter. We want this site to be
known for its respectful, thought-provoking and witty commentary by
its intelligent and polite community of posters, not just a place
where people can go to slam each other.

by nick l Posted Tue October 10, 2006 @ 12:43 AM

1. If the flight attendants told you to sit down while you were
waiting to use the bathroom, it was probably because the plane was
entering turbulence (that is assuming this actually happened...which
is questionable).

2. Way to play the race card there. Guess you just had to show the
flight attendants had it in for you somehow.

3. What do you mean by "gave you attitude"? Did the flight attendants
make any more rude comments to you during the flight?

4. Your demand for airfare and lodging at Wynn in Las Vegas is
laughable. And I doubt United will provide you a "broad" either.
You'll have to do that yourself. They can be found on many street
corners on the Strip after dark.

This is a perfect example of the type of letter best ignored. It seems
to me that this person is looking for attention, pure and simple, and
all of these responses give him/her just that. It's #2 on the Top 20
already, and it was written less than 3 hours ago.

It's also this type of letter that most frequently brings out the
negative responses, name calling, profanity, etc that everyone has
been so upset about.

Stick to the letters you feel you can comment positively on, or give
polite, helpful constructive criticism to, and just let these ones go.

Yes, it is a joke of a letter; however, that does not give you the
right to police what people do and do not respond to.

by Beth - PFB Admin Posted Wed October 11, 2006 @ 4:03 PM

This is absolutely right.

If you think the letter is someone digging for attention, ignore
it...it's not worth the effort you spend writing a response. If it's
full of cusswords and threats and employee's home addresses, send us
an email at support@planetfeedback.com and we'll take care of it.

Let's see some really good letters get up into the Top Twenty!

I would not discount that SOMETHING happened, but I highly doubt it
went down exactly as briefly described. Nor do I feel that the
tickets, room and board, etc are required.

As others have said many details are missing. The one that I think
might be purposely missing is: (Note: Both are obviously guesses, not
pretending to know for sure)

a) You were in Coach and trying to use the First Class Bathroom.

or

b) There was a line of people and by the time they were done, the Seat
Belt light was on due to turbulance or because you were far enough
into your landing pattern.

Yeah right, i am sure this all happened, you should have told the FA
that you needed to use the washroom. Now you are trying to imply that
they were racist just to get a free trip to vegas and all that.

You know, if I were a person of color, a letter like this would have
me seeing red!

How dare you play the race card, merely to use as a weapon to receive
free goods.

What about all of the people out there who *truly and legitimately*
are discriminated against, on the basis of color??? Or sex, or
religion (etc), for that matter.

Putting aside the fact that your complaint is laughable, I also find
it extremely offensive.

Absolutely appalling.

It's so sad to come across people who are insecure with their race.
Whether you were white, black, purple, blue or orange, I'm sure that
the flight attendant probably would have still made you sit down. You
can't just go around accusing people of being racist just because you
were a little inconvenienced.

Where to start?

(1) No details. Flight number? Date? What was the name on the FA's
badge? Without details, this letter is worthless. Made up? Who
knows.

(2) Maybe you were the victim of racism. Maybe not. No one, except
for the FA could possibly know. Unless she used the N-word or
something similar, there might be another side of the story. Were the
seatbelt signs on? If so, she was within her rights... no, strike
that... it was her job to ask you to sit down. As for why she allowed
the other (white) passengers... can't say. But maybe she had asked
them to sit. Maybe the light came on as you were getting up.

(3) Your request for 2 tickets is out of line. If this was an issue
of racism, then the correct remedy would be (a) an apology (from the
airline, since employees cannot be asked to issue apologies to
customers) and (b) the airline should arrange for diversity training
(if, in fact, the FA has shown to have a problem with insensitity such
as thing). By asking for 2 tickets, you've shown yourself to be
someone who wants free stuff, and doesn't care a lick about racial
issues. Something makes me think that Dr. King wouldn't have given up
the Mongomery Bus Boycott for a couple of cheeseburgers.

(4) You make things worse by adding on a request for "room and broad
[sic] at the Wynn." This makes it clear that you're either scamming
the airline or, if this really happened, really don't care about
racial issues. I don't recall Malcolm X ever asking for freebies at a
casino. Do you?

Racism is unacceptable. However, what's just as bad as someone who
tries to turn racism as a request... no... a DEMAND for freebies.

Shame on you.

Two free round trip tickets to Las Vegas, plus room and board?

At the Wynn?

Because you had to hold it?

OMG.

LMAO!

This is soooo rich.

There was probably a very good reason you were told to stay in your
seat; playing the race card isn't going to get you anywhere.

But thanks for my Monday morning guffaw - this one is a classic!
