Lowe's doesnt offer discounts on a regular basis. There are certain times of the year that a military discount is offered but only at times like July 4th and Memorial Day. If you are getting a discount at your home store then they are doing it as a courtesy to you. This is not a corporate wide discount, this is a store level discont. We have an AFB here and we dont offer every day military discounts. Feel privelaged that you are getting a discount when you are. Lowe's offers every day low prices and will price match competitors prices. Because of this, they do not offer special discounts.

I smell BS. Who travels and goes to Lowes? Were they running some super promotion in Florida where you needed to buy that chipper/shredder or 2x4's that you couldn't wait to buy 1000 miles away in NY?

Let's try this again...
While travelling in Florida, I discovered that the discount I get back home is not honored at all locations. I do realize that the Fort Drum location probably offers the discount because of the nearby military base. However, there are lots of retired veterans who no longer live near a base. I think it would be a great move if you offered this discount at all of your locations. I'm sure it would encourage lots of vets to chose you over Home Depot or other home improvement stores. In turn, they would tell their friends and family about your great service, and increase your business nationwide.
Because I have always recieved great service, and because I do most of my shopping at home, I will continue to frequent Lowes for my home improvement needs. But I do hope that you take my suggestion into consideration.
Thanks in advance,
Daniel P.

Here's a suggestion for a better letter:
Dear Lowes:
I routinely shop at my local Lowe's and am allowed a retired military discount on purchases. I live in Jefferson County NY, near Fort Drum.

What about those who sincerely wanted to be in the military but couldn't for health reasons?
Etc.

Or what about Quakers or the Amish? They, for religious reasons, didn't serve.
"We're sorry, Mr. Zucker. We don't like people who believe in God, so you're going to need to pay full price for the lumber for your barn."
Of course, I'd be interested in whether they check to see HOW someone served? If you were on the front lines in a war, you get 15% off. Been a POW? 25% off. Served only during peacetime and played in the marching band? 2% off.

Daniel -
It sounds to me like your local Lowes offers a discount to military personnel, because they are located close to a base.
This is a wonderful thing for them to *choose* to do, in order to honor our men and women in the military.
However, not all Lowes stores should be required to honor a military discount, simply because one that is located near a base does.
And writing a letter full of entitlement and demands is certainly not going to do anything to encourage them to do so.
Perhaps a better approach: Try re-writing this letter and thank them for the discount that the Lowes in your hometown offers. Then, SUGGEST they offer the discount nationwide.
