Write a Letter to this Company

How do you think the playstation3 will be in performance and breaking down, would you buy it $499? Is it worth it?

I really hope that you don't waste your money before someone else gets
a chance to "test the waters". My husband is such a techno geek, yet
he even feels that the latest systems are outrageousely priced.
That's not to say they aren't worth it to the right crowd. Like it or
not, companies like this are marketing to teens and young adults who
will use the system for a few weeks, tell all their friends how
awesome it is, then put down the controllers and wait for the "next
big thing". If you have any doubt, just look at how often companies
such as Sony are coming out with new systems.

I'm with one of the other posters, what has happened to PC games? Buy
yourself a computer instead. You will have access to internet games
such as WOW, but also to all kinds of boxed games from competing
companies.

I do hope that if you do rush out to buy the Playstation 3, you are
not disseappointed!

This reminds me of when the X-Box 360 came out. Everyone rushed out
to buy it, there was a massive shortage and people resorted to
anything (even eBay) to get one. After the launch, there were tons of
complaints about the system crashing and not functioning properly.
Writing a letter to Sony asking them if their product is worth it is
basically a waste of time. Sony doesn't care about the consumer; all
they care about is making a profit. If your product stops working,
great buy a new one is their philosophy. The $499 price is not
outrageous for Sony to charge because people will buy it. It's the
public that really sets prices.

I personally would not buy a PS3 for 500 bucks. I don't play video
games much anymore, and I'm not the kind of person who needs to have
the hottest new electronic gadgets right after they come out.

However, if you were really intending for Sony to see this and give
you their opinion, their response would be similar to Jeffrey's
gut-busting response below.

Aren't video games like cars? When a new model comes out, you take
your chances -- wait a year, let the public help the
manufacturer/designer understand the kinks and work them out. THEN
buy one.

While I'm pretty sure I know what Sony's answer to your question would
be ("Yes. Buy three of them."), I'm going to throw in my own answer.
The PS3 would have been a must-buy, if Sony hadn't bungled the launch
as much as they have to this point. Not only are they unable to
release it a reasonable price, but they also can't provide any more
than 400,000 units on shelves before Christmas. And given Sony's
record on defective PS2s, the chances of the PS3 being completely free
of glitches seem slight.

My advice would be to wait. One, it'll be almost impossible to even
find a unit to buy this year. Two, even if you do find it, it's way
overpriced. So just wait to see if the price drops anytime soon or if
the initial releases have any defects. In the meantime, I'd suggest
investing in a Wii instead. Nintendo has a fairly decent track record
on system performance, plus the price tag is much cheaper and there
will be a lot more systems available to buy before the holidays.

John,

While this probably wasn't the best way to get this question out
there, I think it's a good question nonetheless.

By asking people if the price tag on this system is "worth it" I'm
sure you're referring to the myriad of problems the early PS2 units
had when they came out (read errors from the optic eye, mechanical
problems with the CD/DVD drawer, etc.) and how many had to be sent
back to Sony to be exchanged, I can see the validity of your concern.

I have heard MANY people complain about the problems with the XBOX 360
that came out last year in spite of it's steep price tag. The
concerns are very valid.

Maybe this is something Mr. Helpful could address as a BrainChain. If
you post this to the suggestion box, maybe it will get picked up.

Do you honestly expect SONY to answer you with anything other than a
resounding "YES"?

Dear John,

Since you wrote to use here at Sony asking us what we think of this
product, we have to be honest.

We think that the PS/3 is the best invention ever. Better than fire.
Better than penicillin.

Everyone must have one. If you buy one, we're pretty sure that the Al
Queda threat will be a thing of the past. Cancer? This'll fix it.

You might want to consider buying 2 or 3. Isn't it worth $500 a pop
to own a piece of immortality?

Performance? Just owning this beautiful box will get you plenty of
girls.

Breaking down? Even if it's as dead as Elvis, we're pretty sure that
it'll be best thing you own. C'mon. Admit it. Everything you own
will pale in comparison to this piece of genius.

Albert Einstein, himself, came back from the grave just to tell us
that this is one smart game box.

You don't want to be a loser, John, do you? If you don't buy one, no
one will talk to you. Dogs, well, let's just say that man's best
friend extends only to those smart enough to buy a PS/3.

Don't saw we didn't warn you, John.

Thank you for writing to Sony. We're glad you gave us a chance to
give you our 100% honest assessment of this product. We wouldn't lie
to you.

Sincerely,
Sony
Playstation Division

For future reference, this comment went to Sony and if you would like
to discuss a particular product you should start a blog and post
comments on the other letters so people go to your blog.

I'm not buying the PS3. I have an Xbox, PS2 and GameCube. That is
plenty enough. Maybe in a few years I'll get the PS3 and Xbox 360 but
I'm not holding my breath.

On that note the new Wii looks awesome. I may get that before I get
the other two... hmmm... I don't know.
