I placed an order through the drive thru for a small order of livers and gravy. Now, the livers are listed at 3.99, so when i am told 5.82, i am wondering why?? I asked the guy running the drive thru. He said that gravy is 1.50. a dollar and a half for a little thing of gravy. I let him know that his menu does not tell customers that gravy is an extra charge. he didn't seem to care. So, when i pulled out, i called KFC to talk to the manager. She got on the phone and explained very rudely that it has always been this way. i explained to her that Lee's Famous Recipe gives people gravy with their livers. She said, sorry that is the way it is. I asked her if she thought it should be on the menu, she said she didn't know and that was it. She did not offer anything.
Well, i got on KFC's website and apparently they either don't care or just don't check their guest complaints. I was a restaurant manager with Applebee's for 10 years and when a guest complained about something, we bent over backwards!! KFC was nothing but rude and disconcerned.

Um, Mary, i know that "everything they pay for, I pay for", but if the menu does not say that, it is false advertising. Plus, customer service SUCKS there, the manager was very, very rude.

So go to Lee's.
That was easy.
But just so you know. Everything they have to pay for...YOU have to pay for. What makes you think you should get it free?

Did the order board at the drive thru specifically offer "livers and gravy"? You state that the livers are listed at $3.99, so that tells me that you assumed that they came with gravy - - right?

"She did not offer anything"
And why should she?
The fact that you don't like the way KFC does things doesn't mean you get freebies.
Sheesh.

Applebees isn't KFC. The price difference, alone, should tip you off to that.
Are you really telling me, that at Applebees, they'd just give a customer something for free because someone else does?
I always assume that gravy, if not described as part of the item, is extra.
In this case, I didn't even know that KFC sold livers. So I have no idea if gravy is always part of such an item.
However, if I ordered "chicken with gravy," I'd expect an extra fee for it.
I don't know why gravy should be extra, with ketchup being free. But it makes sense to me.
I don't excuse rudeness, but I fail to see the complaint. Other than you not being notified, up front, that gravy costs extra (again, if the item is called "livers" I would expect the gravy to be extra; if it's called "livers and gravy," I'd expect it be included), what is your complaint? That they should give you things for free because you say they should be?
Since Applebees is so good, I'm going to express amazement when they don't give me free dessert with my meal. Afterall, I get dessert with my meal when I go to Old Country Buffet.
Or maybe I'll demand free alcohol, since I got free alcohol when I went to my cousin's wedding. Surely, Applebees is just a high class as my cousin and will bend over backwards to, at least, be as generous as he was.

Pretty good letter. I like that you're not asking for freebies. I find it surprising and rather unfair that they would charge for GRAVY. I mean, that's like charging a person extra for ketchup to put on their fries.
Hope you hear something from them.
This is why I don't eat at KFC, it's far too expensive, and not nearly as good as it used to be.
