Do you not like the working poor?!!

Posted Wed December 6, 2006 3:38 pm, by sandra d p. written to Jack in the Box, Inc.

Write a Letter to this Company

What is the deal with your restaurant?!! I am very upset with the way you have raised the prices!!! Now, mind you, you guys have the best food, the best quality and the nice servings for a fast food restaurant but your prices are outrageous!!! Do you not want the working poor to eat at your restaurant? And, your sodas are YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! I don't know what formula you are using but Taco Bell has all of you fast food places beat by 2000 percent!

Lower the prices!!!!! Change your soda formula!!

How many of us are at our "well paying" jobs, looking at PFB on
company time, while the "working poor actually work for their 6-8
dollars an hour?

Can't be too poor, you have a computer and internet access. Eliminate
that unneeded expense and you could eat out.

If you are so poor, then go file for food stamps and COOK AT HOME.

Soda is YUCK YUCK YUCK anywhere. Use your food stamps for some juice
or something.

You must be fat.

Jack in the Box who killed 4 children due to ecoli years ago...they
have since come a long way, hopefully Taco Bell will too....

Because if you notice, she spends a great deal of it pointing out that
she was not ever, in fact, in dire need of money - she was well to do
before she started her "experiment" and never actually had to rely on
the pittances she made during her "experiment" and, in fact, in
between jobs (that she took from those who actually could have used
the money) she was home in her cush house with plenty of money.

That entire book is a fraud. She didn't live without what she already
had and she makes reference to that fact several times in the book.

by RedheadWGlasses Posted Mon December 11, 2006 @ 8:43 AM

To step into someone else's shoes. She was completely up front with
the readers about her situation and the fact that she did have money
at her disposal, although she didn't choose to use it.

How else was she supposed to do it? Literally give all her money
away? Yeah, right. Like any of US would do that.

Her point about having a safety net was that she HAD one -- and that
many working adults do not.

The play was outstanding.

I happen to like Jack In The box. I have not noticed their pricing
going up and I go there for lunch about once a week. I, personally
like the $.99 Chicken sandwich (but I add cheese to it so it comes to
like $1.19). There are LOADS of things to eat there that are cheep.
My husband and I can eat there for under $10. But there are some that
are a little more expensive. And I don't know about the soda, we get
water (it's free) or, if we are having a bad day at work, a Chocolate
Shake. But, if you are so poor, why are you eating out? If we find
our self's low on funds before payday, we bring our lunch to work. And
DO NOT eat out at night for a few days.

by Gino Version 1.2 Posted Fri December 8, 2006 @ 12:21 AM

I can't quite understand the point of this letter. Seriously... all
fast food restaurants are pretty much the same...the decent ones DO
cater to all segments of society (the working poor, the working middle
class, the working rich). The working poor usually go for the "Biggie
Value Meal" the working middle class usually goes for a reguar
hamburger, small fries, and a small coke. The Working Rich order off
the dollar menu, bring their own used teabags and ask for a cup of hot
water...then walk off with the house paper (how do you think they got
so rich?)

Yuck Yuck Yuck is three Yucks too much to describe ANYTHING. And
believe me, right now, Taco Bell is having some serious problems to
deal with and I truly doubt they're 2000 percent better. They WILL
come back, but it'll take some time and Public Relations.

We don't have this chain around here, but i'm guessing they probably
raised their prices recently?

Reply
by MommyG4 Posted Thu December 7, 2006 @ 8:58 PM

If you don't like the prices, find a fast food place that provides the
$1 or $.99 value menu, like say, McDonald's or Wendy's. This is a
matter of what is most important to you. I do not have a Jack In The
Box anywhere near me. I have a McDonalds, BK, and Wendy's about 20
miles from me, so if I want to go to one of those places, I decide
what is most important. If I want better service, I choose BK or
Wendy's. If I want a whopper, of course, I choose BK. If I want
cheap & great taste, I go to Wendy's. You could just stop eating out
too.

by Midniteblue Posted Thu December 7, 2006 @ 6:34 PM

First of all, you may or may not have a legitimate complaint (I
wouln't know since I've never heard of this restaurant before), but
this letter is poorly written and it makes you seem less credible. For
example, use exclamation point sparingly, and NEVER use multiple
exclamation point, or question marks and exclamation points together.
Also, the YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! is not necessary and unprofessional.
Simply saying that you are dissatisfied or that you dislike the sodas
should suffice. Also, 2000% is way too much hyperbole for a credible
letter. I'm not sure why you would compare them to Taco Bell, anyway.
Are the two establishments similar?

Also, the comments you make about the quality, service, and food are
complimentary, which I'm sure they'll appreciate. But it seems to me
that if you're otherwise pleased with the restaurant, the paying a bit
more would be worth it.

I suggest rewriting the letter when you are less angry, and be sure to
explain your complaint in a professional, less hostile, more coherent
manner.

Go to Taco Bell, you like it better and it has prices that you can
afford.

I ate at a Jack in the Box once. YUCK! YUCK! YUCK!

Maybe it's just me, but low prices and "the best food, the best
quality and the nice servings for a fast food restaurant" seem a bit
mutually exclusive.

What about the working poor that work at Jack-in-the-Box? Perhaps the
raise in prices is going to pay them better?

I doubt it, but maybe.

What cuts in products or services are you willing to trade for better
prices?

Maybe they could discontinue soda altogether and you could bring your
own soda.

Maybe they could have just one person working behind the counter,
running the register and also cooking.

Maybe they could turn off the lights and air/heat to save on the power
bill.

What do you think?

(And for the record, I'm thinking "Mmmmmm, Jack in the Box". I
haven't eaten there since college, because I live in one of those
desolate outposts of humanity that doesn't have any. So I vote to
keep the food prep intact and make the cuts in customer service.)

Is your issue with Carl's Jr. or Jack in the Box, because you
complained to both about the soda.

Also, if you want 'the best food, the best quality, and the nice
servings for a fast food restaurant', then you should expect that the
prices would be higher.
