Bad Coupon Experience

Hello there. I have a small complaint about your coupons that you can print out in-store that I think you need to know about.
On December 31st, I went to your store on 92nd and South Chicago Avenue in Chicago, Ilinois to pick up a gift card for a friend. While there I had scanned my card into your little kiosk to see if I could get any coupons and found that there was one I could use for $4 off my purchase over $20. Since the gift card and greeting card I had purchased was for over $20, I decided to try and use it.
I got to the checkout counter and the person scanned the items in along with my card, and the coupon would not go through. He tried several times before he got his supervisor, Charles Gray, to try and put it in. Mr Gray still could not get it in and I could tell he was getting frustrated. Every way he could possibly try did not work. Finally I said forget about the coupon and that was that. He apologized profusely but I said don't worry about it and those things happen.
I'm not going to stop using CVS, but I will be more cautious in the future when attempting to use your kiosk printed coupons. Also, I think you need to state on your savings coupons (it was not printed anywhere on this coupon) that gift cards do not qualify towards savings coupons much like it is clearly printed on there that prescriptions are not eligible for the coupon as well.

i work at cvs and i know there are restrictions to coupons. You can not buy liquor, gift cards, tabacco or stamps, and lottery tickets. Copuons will not go through because the system pervents it from happening. Same goes for extra bucks- if you look on the bottom of your coupons you will see the "some restrictions apply" notice. It wasnt your fault- the management was just dumb and didnt know the rules. at any store you should always ask about restrictions and return polocy because every place is different.

This is a well written letter, especially since you don't make unreasonable demands.
Coupons are never accepted for gift cards. However, the coupon should have stated that. And, if not, certainly the supervisor should have know this.
Here's the hoping that someone listens and puts the "gift card" exclusion on the coupon. And, while they're at it, tobacco and alcohol also have coupon restrictions. As well as drugs (at least in some states).

Mike,
This is a perfect example of a well-written complaint letter. I commend you for pointing out not only the obvious snafu in their system, but the fact that the manager attempted to help and apologized.
You managed to get your point across in a calm, rational manner and made no demands for compensation.
Well done!

I'm surprised the manager didn't realize that. That is standard procedure at almost every retailer, if not every retailer.
