I have worked in athletics for over 15 years in a supportive capacity and have seen this over and over again. And now I am experiencing it with own son who is on the 9th grade football team with 60 otehr boys. He gets frustrated with not getting playing time, I encourage HIM to talk directly to the coach about it if bothered him that much. He never had that conversation. So, he has accepted his spot on the team and enjoys the "team bonding" On a side note, let's face it....on ALL levels, coaches want to WIN and it's rare that a coach will be considerate of the kid who does everyting he is asked to do when they are winning or losing by a significant amount. It's just teh way it is and kids have to understand it on the front end. However, it does not make it any easier to sit and watch.

I am desperate.....i need someone to help me....i have a son who is a very hard worker...and plays basketball at school..last year he got on the team but his coach never let him play..my son sat on the bench and towards the end he would play in the 2nd half of the last quater for a minute or two. here i am sitting in the crowd wanting to see my son play and he never plays. By this time i am all cruched up with frustation and questions...why the coach doesn't let my son play..my son is probably going through the same pain..and when he gets up for the few minutes he doesn't know what to do..because he has been sitting there for the entire game and thinking of the reason why the coach wont let him play...My son is a very hard worker and practices two hours a day and he is an A student. when this happened last year, i couldn't take this anymore and i went to the coach and the athletic director and they reassured me that this wont happen again. I told them to talk to my son on his weakness at least so he knows why he can't play...but nobody talked to him and and then i asked them to give me some answer and there was no satisfactory answer. After this, they continued the same thing. I understand if if my son doesn't play good then its perhaps its okay..So this year, when it was time for the selection i told him not to try out but he said no mom, i want to and he did and he got selected. The same thing is happening again. He is 13 year old and last night i sat at his game and i cried and also prayed to God to see the things clearly and in the end the coach put him in for two minutes and he couldn't do anything..and at the end of the game i wiped my tears and i tried to be very supportive. and told him that he would have his own chance but in my heart i feel very hurt. There are total of 12 kids on the team and 5 are really good and these are the ones that play during the entire game...am i incorrect in thinking that other not so good players should be given some chance at playing at the game. I think that at this age, kids should be allowed to realize their strength or potential at the game just like eduaction and it shouldnt be like if your not the best then you can't play because the coach has to win win win!!!!! Is there something wrong letting the kids try their best or are the sports handled differently? Are there mothers out there whose kids selected on a school time and their kids sit on the bench for the entire game?
Also my son doesn't want me to talk to the coach so the coach wont get angry at him and also last year talking to him didn't take me anywhere!

It's called "Mommy Talk & Daddy Dialogue [sic]," but then everything else is clear that it's "Moms" only.
Short of breast feeding items, that is.
