I'm sure they'll go broke. One less pathetic person to worry about pleasing. If they let all of the illegal aliens out of the country, both California and Texas would halt to stand still. There would be no one to do the jobs we white people refuse to do. I'm all for peso's for pizza. They are serving a demographic that's in their area. It's not like they're located in Minnesota for Christ sakes.
Great marketing idea. And creative too!

Who gives a crap. It's not your company, therefore it's not your decision what kind of money they choose to accept as payment. Respect people's freedom to do what they want on their own property. What is this, Russia?

Robyn, how very ignorant and narrow minded of you to assume that one pizza chain accepting pesos is going to somehow increase the flow of illegal immigrants into the US.
Since there is an apparent overgrowth of the "ignorami" species in the Southwest, perhaps Pizza Patron would do better to serve their 60% Hispanic clientele by just accepting the pesos and allowing the information to filter down by word of mouth.
According the the article Brennie posted, other local operations accept Mexican Pesos too and haven't gotten death threats. Maybe the key is not to put it out in the open where the media can feed it to the ignorami and cause them to write idiotic letters like this one.
Kind of operating on the old premise, "What you don't know can't hurt you."

After 24 years in USA, I have no been living in Holland for about 6 months and it amazes me: they have the SAME issue. EVERYTHING that we hear/see/read about illegal immigrants from Mexico, is the exact same thing here with immigrants from Morroco, Turkey and surrounding countries. YOu could literally take ANY article/debate/rant about Mexicans in America, substitute the countries names and run it in a Dutch newspaper with no difference. But what I DON'T see here is the fear and yes, I think hatred that I see in America towards Mexicans. Now, I'm not saying everyone who opposes the pesos thing hates Mexicans, at ALL, but I think we ALL have to admite we've seen it in our lives. Holland is concerned about illegal immigration. They're angry about benefits for illegals and them not paying taxes. And yet, it's a completely different vibe. I just wonder what is wrong with our society that people immediately turn towards this public outcry of hate that we've seen in some places. I mean, ok, you don't agree with it, fine. But hate mail? death threats? racial slurs? I just don't understand why it has to end up there.

kiss their a$$ to make them happy.
Watch American military and their families, sometime, Courtney. I HATED being around Americans when we were there. We had several friends who were married to Germans and we socialized with them and their German friends more than American military or their families because a LOT of Americans overseas are just d*cks.
Many Americans have no concept of anything beyond the end of their noses.

It depends on the source of the info and what the media chooses to focus on. The Death threats, hate mail, etc are more than likely from Extremist groups. There are those kinds of groups everywhere and on every subject. It has been my experience that usually the majority here in the US stay silent for fear of offending the vocal minority. The Problem with the US as a whole is that we have gotten too PC. I don't think the people against immigration have gotten a fair shake on the media, not counting Fox News.
Hate has permeated the entire Immigration issue. Both sides have expressed Hatred and stubbornness. The Majority of the country I believe is somewhere in the middle. The Majority of Americans want some type of guest worker program or something like the DREAM act I mentioned in my replies. Both Sides have to come to an understanding.
Also, I find your talk of immigration issues in Holland very interesting. I think where the US-Mexico problem is unique is that the Country of Mexico is actively supporting illegal immigration. That is one of the Major problems, besides the fact that President Bush seems Hell-Bent on being buddies with Good Ole Vicente.

i have to say i agree with you. i do not think, for one, that they should make it easier for them. if they come to america, they should use american dollars. besides, all the illegal immigrants around here can't speak english, are on welface, and expect the locals to learn spanish to comfort them. it's not right.

While I don't like the broad "If we accept one type of foreign currency, why not accept them all" arguement. I am very suprised at the majority of the commenters here with calls of Racism. I'll admit that i was outraged when I heard about the Pizza Resaraunt accepting Pesos as well. The timing just seems to coincidental that when Immigration is such a hot issue that they suddenly try to "Test The Market" by accepting Foreign Currency.
I know nothing can be done about this due to the freedoms we enjoy, but I still find it disturbing that this is apparentally thought of as OK. I know, not all illegal immigrants are mexican or bad. I just think this is a bad move becasue we are going to try to start assimilating some of these immigrants into our society and letting them continue to use pesos defeats the purpose.
If you have not figured it out, I am for closing the borders and deporting all illegal immigrants. I don't see why I have to pay for College, but they get it free, I have to pay for groceries myself, they get government aid, there are large groups of immigrants that don't want to learn english, but still want to reap the benefits, but yet Im encouraged and almost expected to learn their language. If the immigrants want to go through the process that they are supposed to and come to this country LEGALLY, than more power to them and welcome.
My main issue with the whole subject is that a good bit of immigrants that come into this country break the law and then thumb their nose at it and this must be stopped! When people take offense to this they are denounced as Racist and a Xenophobe! That is not right! Just because someone has a difference of opinion does not make them wrong and/or prejudiced! To Steal a line from Peter Griffon from Family Guy "And That America, is what Grinds my gears!"

Oh, I see. It's just the illegal immigrants who use pesos, not the perfectly legal kind. That makes perfect sense.

If you ever travelled out of the US, you would know that most places accept US dollars - I'm sure that's OK with you. The pesos comment is just racist - and how do you know they're illegal immigrants - did you ever think they were tourists?
If I owned Pizza Patron, I would be very happy that a racist person like you decided not to patronize my store. And as someone said earlier, no wonder everyone hates us.

Should the restaurants on the Canadian border not accept Canadian money, too? Does it not occur to you that illegal immigrants probably don't have Pesos because they are here to work for dollars? We live in a country with a free market. Pizza Patron is trying to differentiate themselves by catering to a niche in the pizza market. Also, this is a limited time offer. Get over it.

You ever think, I know it may be hard for you, but, think! Perhaps, they are accepting pesos for the TOURISTS that come over! San Antonio is a big tourist city! Hello??
Besides, having travelled extensively, I know that every "foreign" country accepts US Dollars. Why are we the only country that fights these petty things?? Why do we try to make life soo complicated?
Lordy Lordy! Next time you hear the word "train!" get in line, perhaps you will get lucky and they'll be handing out brains!

The owner was born and raised here in the USA
The website is totally in ENGLISH with no option for Spanish or Mexican.
Robyn, people can change, I know you can do it! It's sad that your hatred is blinding you to wonderful cultures of peoples different than you but no better or worse when it really comes down to it.
Isn't this what being an American is truly about?

Did you ever consider that perhaps this new policy was to allow Americans, returning from a visit to Mexico, spend their leftover Mexican currency?
Here in Minnesota, most places accept Canadian change, and as you get further north, I believe they also accept Canadian paper money.
Oh, and your threat of never eating there, considering you've never eaten there, is a joke. They'll appreciate the chuckle when/if they read your "letter."

Why do you really care how other people pay for their pizza? Besides, you admit to never eating there, so unless you were unable to get a pizza because pesos were the ONLY accepted form of payment, you really don't have a valid complaint. You just made a real donkey out of yourself.

Hi Robyn,
I think this issue is more of a hot button deal than an actual issue. With the current climate concerning immigration in this country this is being made into something it shouldn't be.
Having been to Mexico I can tell you that you can use American dollars almost everywhere. Our hotel was more than happy to accept US dollars for anything we wanted to purchase. Many of the places I visited in Costa Rica also would take my US currency. Just last summer in Canada we paid for food and beer with US currency.
In the long run, this is much ado about nothing. If we as Americans can use our money in other countries, we shouldn't get so up in arms about people from other countries doing the same.

So, EVERY Mexican in the US is here illegally? There are NO Mexican tourists?
I'm GLAD you won't eat there, and hope you get indigestion every time you put anything in that racist asinine mouth of yours.
Oh, and here's a news flash, IDIOT... They are geared toward HISPANIC families.
{Pizza Patrn is leading the industry by truly serving Latino communities. We have bilingual staffs and offer unheard of pizza value to Hispanic families!}
And I'm sure if they were near Canada they'd accept Canadian dollars. They don't border Europe or the middle east so it would be stupid to accept dinars or euros when odds are they'll never see them.

And I'm sure they'll never miss you. Seriously, this letter is ridiculous. Even if an immigrant WAS illegal, they could convert pesos to dollars. It's not like you need a birth certificate to do so. I'm assuming this pizza place this is California, Texas, or some other border state. Did it ever cross your mind that maybe they accept pesos to make it easier for tourists or NEW immigrants to buy there? Maybe if the state bordered Canada, they WOULD accept CAD. There's a grocery store here in Holland that accepts USD. You think it's to encourage Americans to stay in Holland illegaly? Or to encourage American tourists to shop there? Shame on YOU for being so close-minded.
