Chick-Fil-A brought a smile to a young boy's face

Posted Mon January 15, 2007 12:00 pm, by Amanda A. written to Chick-fil-A Inc.

Write a Letter to this Company

On Saturday, January 6th, I had phoned Chick-fil-A on Plauditt Place in Lexington, KY. I asked if I could make a reservation for my son's birthday party on the following Saturday. The guy I spoke with honestly didn't know anything regarding details, but said they didn't charge for actual parties. He gave me the phone # for their marketing director, but I was hesitant to call her personal number on a weekend night. The guy took my name, phone number, son's name and age, and approximate number of guests. He said he would call the director for me and if there were any problems, she would call and let me know.

On Friday, January 12th, I was nearby and decided to stop in Chick-fil-A to confirm my reservations. Imagine my surprise when the on-duty manager knew NOTHING of my reservations and said they did not hold birthday parties. I was upset considering my son's party was already set up for the next day and I would have to make alternate arrangements. The guy insisted that he would set aside an area of tables for us around the appointed time and would even put some balloons out. He said all would be taken care of the next day before we arrived.

We showed up the following day five minutes ahead of schedule and there was NOT an area marked off for our use. It was extremely busy and was hard enough to find parking, but inside there were maybe four tables available. I quickly sent my family to occupy the open spaces and that's when an employee noticed the birthday cake and bags in my hands. His name was J.C. and he quickly took over the situation. He apologized for not being made aware of our reservations and did his best to make sure the rest of the party ran without a hitch.

With all of the kids that showed up, we quickly cleared out almost all of the back room. J.C. moved all of the tables together so that the kids could sit beside each other. He returned soon after with a half dozen balloons to put on the gift table. We ordered kids meals for 11 kids and another employee took the bags out to them. While my son was opening gifts, a young lady brought out a tray full of ice cream for each of them. Soon after, they were all gifted with a plush "Santa Cow" that they loved, oblivious of the fact Christmas was three weeks ago.

I was honestly surprised at how smoothly the hour went that we were there and how accomodating the employees were. I certainly wouldn't recommend Chick-fil-A for a birthday party considering they don't have any arrangements for such (yet). However, I WILL recommend them based on their customer service and attention to details. Thanks so much to J.C. and the other employees for making my son's birthday party a hit!

It's so refreshing to hear that a company really does care for it's
customers and that the customer cares enough to take the time to let
them know. They tried their best to make it right, it dosen't take a
lot of extra effort and can make a child's day memorable.

Thank You for sharing it with everyone!

I would love to know what type of training Chick-fil-a puts their
staff through. I have NEVER had a bad experience at one of their
restaurants and we eat there a lot. I thingk their employees are
genuinely happy to be working for the company.

I agree...what a great letter!

Please mail a copy of this letter directly to the store. I work in
food and heaven knows how many irate letters and emails we get. It
will make them feel great to see yours!

Amanda, excellent letter. It sounds like you had three helpful and
willing employees, but there is no communication happening at that
store! You sure kept your cool and just went with the flow. GOOD FOR
YOU. Other parents (including some who've written here about how a
mishap or mistake ruined their child's birthday and they'll need
therapy for years because of it) would have wigged.

Sounds like the kids had a great time with simple surroundings. I
can't imagine a finer birthday celebration. I'm glad you got taken
care of.
