Employee conduct

Posted Fri February 16, 2007 10:58 am, by Tina G. written to Kentucky Fried Chicken

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

We were on vacation in Fort Lauderdale Fl on 2-14-07 and stopped at the location near the airport. I would guess 17th street. After placing our order, the girl behind the counter asked us if we would like to buy any designer purses or shirts. These were clearly counterfiet items. We kept telling her no we just came for lunch. She kept on pestering us the whole time we were waiting for the chicken to finish cooking. We came to KFC for food, not to be bothered by the cashier. My husband and I were furious. She had them sitting right on the counter. The customer before us either bought something from her or was her distributor because they had an order placed. The girl didn't have on a name tag but the whole time she kept smacking herself on the top of her head. We came to get take out and enjoy our vacation, not to be harassed by the employee selling her fake goods.

I would like this restaurant checked into. The employee's conduct was horrible. Reimbursment for our luch would be great. 10 pc meal and a popcorn chicken combo. Thank you, Tina

Either this is complete shenanigans, or the management of this
particular restaurant is so disengaged or uncaring to allow an
employee to try and sell counterfeit purses or shirts behind the
counter.

I have heard of many things going on at fast food restaurants, but
nothing like this.

That said, this letter is tacky because you evidently did not care
enough to notify a manager or walk out and eat someplace else. You
were willing to put that aside so you could have your lunch, and then
chose later on to write a letter to KFC asking for freebies.

You could have done one of two things:

Spoken to a manager immediately.

Picked up the phone and dialed "9-1-1" to report them.

Either way, I'm sure the suits and other items would have come down
off that counter pretty quickly.

did you get your food in a timely manner? was your order correct? if
so, then why ask for a free meal. it sounds like you're just trying
to get something for nothing.

Most companies do not allow solicitation on grounds. It would have
been your best action to talk to the manager on site immediately.

If I went into a restaurant and an employee there was selling illegal
counterfeit stuff and trying to be pushy, making me buy it, I'll sock
her in the face.

In most cases, employees are not allowed to run side businesses at
their places of employment. This is what is meant by "no
solicitation." I think you were right to be upset, but there wasn't
anything wrong with your meal. Therefore, you are not entitled to a
freebie of any kind. You should, however, have consulted a manager
immediately.

I went into a Target, somewhere near JFK airport - I think is was
Northern Blvd location. After asking an assistant for help finding
cat litter, I noticed that she kept kicking herself. Instead of
leading me to the cat litter, she took me to an area in the back (I
believe it was actually in one of the rest rooms), and she offered to
sell me Chicken McNuggets. I suspected something was wrong, because
she took off her red Target apron, and donned a McDonald's cap. She
didn't have a nametag either, but she is the one who kicks herself. I
was surprised to have an offer of help in the rest room, because I had
heard Target employees don't offer assistance in the rest rooms.

I demanded Target provide me with a year's supply of cat litter as
compensation, but they told me I was crazy and laughed at me.
Imagine. I feel your pain.

You really blew it on the reimbursement for your lunch. Everything
else about your letter was great. Now I question the validity of your
letter. You seem as slimey as the lady selling counterfiet items.

Shame on you!

While the employee was out of line, you purchased your food and ate it
so you do not deserve a free meal.

Was there a manager on duty and did you try to speak to him/her? You
should have started your complaint right there.

Having lived in Ft. Lauderdale, this does not surprise me. In the
Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area there are many stands selling rugs, various
souvenirs, and leather goods in part due to the immigrant population.
What bothers me is that the letter writer is claiming that the items
are counterfeit, but does not name any particular designer. I have an
aunt who sells leather goods in hospitals down in Florida and she gets
her merchandise from a supplier in the Miami area. The items are very
well made and cheap. They are by no means made by a designer and are
not passed off as such. So, what the lady was doing may not have been
"illegal" as some have pointed out.

Whether the manager knew what was going on or not, we will never know
as the letter writer made no attempt to speak with them. Knowing how
things run down there however, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if
the manager organized the whole thing!

All that matters really though is that the letter writer chose to
stick around even after being solicited. Why should they get a
refund.

Did she have the light blue snake skin Coach bag by any chance? I
can't find it anywhere for under $150!

Sorry. This is the strangest thing I have ever heard of. And on top
of it all she was smacking herself on the head? Maybe a call to the
local police isn't a bad idea.

Tina,
What did the manager say when you brought this to thier attention
while the action was still taking place?

I wonder if the manager permitted solicitation and sales by this girl.
Why was she smacking her head, and with what, her hand? Maybe
something was not right with the girl and the manager let her see if
she could sell a few for a short time to help her out.

Holy crap! Usually complaints about employee conduct are pretty
frivolous, but if the letter is true the employee is WAY out of line
and could get KFC in a crapload of legal trouble (due to the items
being counterfiet).

I usually don't side with "give me free stuff" posters, but in this
case it might even be deserved. I hope this gets acted upon ASAP!

You want reimbursement for food that you ate and apparently had no
complaints about? Why not speak with the manager while you were there
to complain about this?

You do have a legitimate complaint (being bothered by an employee
who's trying to sell illegal or knock-off handbags), but to ask for
reimbursement for the food is TACKY and RIDICULOUS.

Even Mickey Mouse had a bigger pair than you, if you couldn't even
work up the gumption to complain to the store's manager.

Could I have the exact address and the employees name, please?

I would have been running to the ATM!! Darn my bad luck!

Kidding aside, I concur with the other remarks - it was tacky and
illegal, but I don't know what that has to do with getting free food.
Other than the fact that you're just a drama queen looking for
handouts.

Why in the world do you think you deserve free food because a KFC
employee tried to sell you a purse or shirt? You bought food and ate
it - - transaction complete.

I absolutely agree that the employee was acting strangely; however,
like Jeffrey, I do not see why you should get reimbursement after the
fact.

It's no doubt that this employee was not acting correctly. However, I
fail to see why this deserves a 10 pc meal.

I have to assume that the manager knew about this. However, speaking
to the manager might have helped. If not, take... your... business...
elsewhere.

Sounds like the employee was a bit off-kilter, but how do you deserve
a comped meal?

The Entitlement Fairy knows no shame, it seems.
