Wiper Blades Destroyed by Jiffy Lube Mechanics

Posted Fri March 30, 2007 12:00 pm, by Dale D. written to Jiffy Lube

Write a Letter to this Company

I went into Jiffy Lube to get my oil changed. That part went fine however they destroyed my wipers. My windshield wipers were working when I went in however after I got out, they started scratching my windshield. Now I have to replace them... but first I have to get home in the rain w/out my wipers. The mechanic said they needed replacing however before I went in, they were just fine. I am NOT happy about this.

I would like them to replace my wiper blades for free. I own a Pontiac G6. The blades for this car are not cheap. Dealer price is about $60. This is why I'm upset. I went in for an oil change and came back w/a damaged car.

I also own a 06 Pontiac G6. Guess what, I needed new wiper blades
also. This is for all the G6 owners out there!! They do not make a
replacement blade for our type of car, unless you get it from the
dealership at that outrageous price!! Other companies say they have a
replacement but they actually don't. To comment about Jiffy Lube, I
have done business with them in the past and guess what, I have had
them do a shady job (cutting corners, saying they did something they
really didn't to my car) at certain locations. For example, I went in
to a Jiffy Lube in the outskirts of Atlanta, GA to get a routine oil
change. Lucky for me I always DATE my oil filters before having them
installed to make sure I don't get ripped off by the people changing
my oil. They charged me like $50 bucks for the "QUICK OIL CHANGE" that
took too long and didn't even bother to put a new filter in. Ofcourse,
I didn't pay and I have never gone back to that company either!!

Your letter that is. I've been a Jiffy Lube customer for over 15
years and I've never experienced the type of possible upcharge damage
incidents that you claim. I've used them at multiple locations in
several states. Bottom line is I'm sure your wiper blades needed
replacing and you're too cheap to pay for it yourself. Buck up bucko.
Lastly, whenever I need anything additional replaced, they always
show me the part so I can see for myself that it's worn out. And I've
witnessed it coming off our out of my actual car. It's not a dummy
part that they use to make more money on extras. They are a
legitimate company. They don't cheat people.

And what do you suppose it was that the folks at Jiffy Lube did that
wrecked your wipers? Are you suggesting that they intentionaly wrecked
them?

I own a car that takes wiper blades that are $40 EACH. When I went in
for my scheduled maintainence at the dealership, I was told they
needed replacing. I then went to Walmart and purchased wipers for $10
each and they are just now starting to wear out, 2 years later.

I think it was just your wipers' time to go, and when Jiffy Lube was
kind enough to check them and let you know, you flew off the handle
and blamed them. You can't prove that they did anything to your
wipers, and you don't deserve anything.

First, the $60 for new blades for that car does not surprise me. Most
of the newer cars take a specialized blade that is not available at
the box stores. And the prices for them are ridiculous.
Places like Jiffy Lube have quotas for their employees; that they are
required to sell X amount of bulbs, wipers, etc. each month.
Damaging something to sell a product is not right but has been going
on for a long time. When I worked at gas stations in the 60's, I was
instructed on how to conceal a razor blade in the toe of my shoe so I
could cut tire sidewalls. I did not stay at that place very long.
Good luck getting them to admit the damage.

I can see something like this happen, I've heard of it at some
automated car washes, somehow the blade seperates from the arm.

I also know they do check a lot of things at Jiffy Lube (air filters,
tire pressure, fluids, blades, etc) in the hopes of selling more than
just a lube and or oil change.

You didn't mention in your letter if you spoke to a manager or not.
Most times it's best to do that before leaving the lot or coming back
to let them know right away. So if you don't get a result there, at
least there may be a record of your complaint on file that corporate
can check.

I do know dealer's prices are usually high, so I believe they cost 60
dollars, but I'm sure they can be bought for less at other places.

I don't get why they'd even look at your wiper blades, unless you can
get some sort of all-around check of the car? I'd not trust anyone at
Jiffy Lube to touch my truck, and I drive a slightly rusty 14-year-old
red pickup with a topper. Nothing special. Car-X is as low as I'll
go.

And good new wipers should cost around $15-$20. $60 is goofy.

In about five minutes there will be a knock on your door. Step away
from your computer and go answer it. Don't be frightened by the white
coats. These people are only there to help you and will do you no
harm. Try not to struggle because they are armed with straightjackets
and syringes. The only thing you might want to do before they get
there is take off your Victoria Secret bra, because you don't want to
risk getting the wrong operation when you reach your destination.

Well, I'm not an ASE certified mechanic, but I know how to do the
basics: oil changes, windshield wiper replacement (blade and arm),
coolant system flush, thermostat replacement, filling and checking all
fluids, changing a tire, basic body work, etc. Mama raised me to be a
girl who could hold her own with "guy stuff" (autos, home maintenance,
and so on)

Lee, he said, "The mechanic said they needed replacing however before
I went in, they were just fine."

Obviously he meant, "The mechanic said they needed replacing. However,
before I went in they were just fine."

Lee,you don't have to be such a jerk to everyone, even if it does make
you feel better about yourself.

Anyway, I don't see how changing the oil would ruin your wipers. What
did they do?

"The mechanic said they needed replacing however before I went in"...
Okay, so we can agree that a mechanic stated you needed the wipers
replaced BEFORE you went in. Why would Jiffy Lube then need to
replace the wipers?

Although I tend to be very consumer friendly, and frankly don't like
Jiffy Lube myself, they have done nothing to owe you wipers for.

It seems to me that you need to replace these wipers yourself.
