I called because I got an error message ordering a PPV movie. The movie would not go through on the phone. I pressed the button for customer service. The recording stated that I WOULD BE CHARGED $5 TO SPEAK TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE! I could not order the movie in any other way. The customer service representative herself ( who did not speak understandable English or understand me well) told me she was charging me $5 to speak with her! The movie went through briefly and went out again. I cancelled my service after 4 and 1/2 years of perfect payments they harassed me and made me pay $17 per prepaid label to RETURN THEIR USED EQUIPMENT...... This is DISH NETWORK CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I'd been considering getting satellite for awhile now, but they sound like a truly awful company and one to stay away from. Stoned employees showing up at your house? $5 for not having a phone line?! That sounds truly terrible!

There is no fee for talking to reps. There is no fee for UPgrading. There IS a $5 fee for DOWNgrading or making any changes which result in a lower monthly bill. So if you upgrade by adding Showtime, but take off HBO and Playboy in the same call, you're charged $5.
Yes, there is a $5 fee for not having a dual tuner receiver permanently connected to a landline. You may not like this, but trust me, its cheaper than the rise in cost that would come if we had to track down and deal with every customer that uses these dual tuners to run 2 households for the price of one. And believe me, there are THOUSANDS. Just one more instance of a few bad apples spoiling it for everyone. If you dont want to pay the fine, connect a phone line or choose to have 2 single tuner receivers vs 1 dual tuner.
Btw, hun, Dish is in works to BUY DirectTV. They could (and would) about 20 times over. THey're working on the legal issues (monopolies and whatnot) but as soon as they can, they will. Direct is dying out. Did you know they RENT their satalittes from Dish? So, dont worry, you're still using Dish in the long run! :P

I think it's kind of silly to just have a cell phone. For example, what if there is an emergency and I can't find my cell phone. That land line sure doesn't go anywhere, it just stays on the wall :-p. Second, it would be too expensive with just a cell! I can get a landline cheaper than having a cell with all the extra minutes I'd need!

We had cell phones before and hated them so we got rid of them completely. Then I started going out on Saturdays while hubby was bartending and he would have to call our friends to find me... so we got phones. I dislike mine though. I hate people bugging me all the time and only my close friends and family have the number.

How so? With just a cell, you're not paying for two separate phone lines.
As for not being able to your cell in an emergency, well... most people are able to keep track of theirs (not to imply you cannot - it just seems like a bit of a lame reason to need a landline. Nothing wrong with landlines, of course, but I do think they tend to be a bit passe.)
