First of all, it is not considered rude to be told you need your receipt for a return. Store policies have had to become much stricter out of necessity. You ask why they can't just "check the cameras"! That is absolutely ridiculous. I do not think store employees have access to viewing the tapes even if they wanted to and you think they should go back and take hours looking at a tape just to look for you! Why could't you just go back home and look for the receipt? You lost all credibility when you stated that you called 911 and expected to be treated as victim of a crime. You also lost credibility when you state what you were "told" by the police on the phone. It is evident you are trying everything to be "right" about this and you are simply WRONG WRONG WRONG. It is also very telling about you that you then took the clothing to a store you did not buy them at and expected to get money for them! That is is dishonest and considered theft by deception and is perhaps criminal. No one needs customers like you dear.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything but did you really have to place the race card here. I know alot of stores that will not give returns without a receipt. And it wasn't because you are African American. It could have possibly been that you have no education and you didn't read the store policy on returns. And if you had just bought the clothes earlier that day, why didn't you have the receipt. That really makes no sense to me.

You called 911 for this?!?! Are you crazy??? That is for EMERGENCIES ONLY!!! That does not constitute as an emergency in any way, shape, or form. How did you manage to lose your reciept in a couple of hours anyways? The 911 operator probably just told you that to get you off the phone, I have NEVER heard of a Class 10 Felony and I work in Law Enforcement. It is not illegal to refuse to give someone a refund, there are many places that will not give you a refund without a reciept and it is perfectly legal. I think you have no complaint. You wrote, "Its your best intrest to help me." I assume you meant it is in your best interest to help me. That could be taken as a threat. I think you need to find something to better to do with your time than write bogus complaints and quit using that race card, I don't believe a word you said.

First, and foremost, it is not a felony. Second, I don't care if you're blue and from venus, "no receipt no refund" does not constitute a "hate crime". If your argument is that you just bought the clothes THAT DAY, why didn't *you* have the receipt? Fraud is the number one reason behind most stores tightening their restrictions on returns.
And you're lucky they were "too busy" to deal with your idiotic complaint and not send a squad car for you abusing the 911 system.

"I called 911 and told them what happened. They said that they were very busy and could not come right then but to tell them that IT IS A CLASS 10 FELONY and HIGHLY ILLEGAL to not give me a refund"
Did they also tell you it's a felony to mis-use the 911 system?

I'm not sure why you didn't save your reciept, considering your child didn't try the clothes on at the time of purchase, but that is neither here not there.
Please tell me you didn't really call the police over something this stupid.I also highly doubt the police told you this could be considered a hate crime. You are lucky they didn't arrest you for wasting thier time.
If you are truly African American, you would know how to spell it.
Oh,and here is an FYI:most stores will not give you your money back without a receipt.

You know, I just thought of something, and I'm surprised I hadn't thought of it earlier, or that it wasn't mentioned earlier.
When I have to return something to Wal-Mart, (which isn't often, but it happens) I have to go through the greeter at the door. The greeter will ask me how many items I'm returning, and then will give me a slip of paper noting how many items, what dept. the item(s) belong to, and at times, a colored sticker. If the OP has this, then she *may* have a case, but she still would NOT receive cash back, she would receive a gift card.

Oh my, tell me this letter is a joke and that you actually didn't call 911, which is for an emergency only! Most clothing stores will not refund the money to you without a receipt, they may offer you a gift card and that is a real maybe. They can't just hand out money, anyone could come in and try on some items, leave the tags on and say they bought them, in order to get cash.

Lady you're a whacko. Since when is it a crime for a business to not offer a return without a receipt?
I also find it VERY hard for any law enforcement agency to inform you that a crime had been commited against you.
Thinking about it, what is a class 10 felony?
This department was offering out this information to you in between the laughter and while wiping away the tears, you made their idiot of the day list.
One more thing, as soon as you don't get your way and you're ticked off you have to play the "Race Card".
You're probably one that blames everything that doesn't go right for you on race.
You want equal rights and to be treated the same as other's (which in this case you were) than stop using race as your downfall.
Another thing, just because the tags are still on the clothing does not mean anything. All stolen merchandise is returned with tags.
Now don't go playing another card here, I'm only making a statement as to what a shoplifter would do, nobody is saying you stole it.
The best thing for you to do is to write off the 86 bucks because you'll probably go see an attorney and once you play the race card they'll throw a couple grand at you to just make it all go away.
Now I'm going to go out for the day and will probably tell your story a few times for a good laugh.
Oh!! the Enron statement, that was a good one.
I have to go get a tissue, it's hilarious, you need to be put on the David Letterman show, or just go see Dr. P H I L L.

Since when is it a felony to not return your money? I see some stores that do not give cash returns, only exchange or in store credit.
Walmart is the best store on returns also. But you DO need your receipt to get CASH back. Otherwise they give you store credit, which you can go buy a pack of gum and get the balance back in cash! No biggie!
But cripes you can bring things back to Walmart that have the tags off, or you bought a long time ago, and if you have the receipt they give you the cash back! If you WORE something and it tore or didn't wash right, they give you money back. WITH the receipt.
Since you did get it the same day, why didn't you have the receipt?
Calling 911? Are you serious?? Then using the race card!?!?!?! NOthing gets me more mad then when someone uses the race card over something that is anything BUT! You give others a bad name, and when there really is a racial issue, people roll their eyes because of people like you crying wolf!

Here's another dumb question. If you weren't absolutely sure that they clothes you got would fit your child, why didn't you just bring her with you and have her try them on before you bought them? Kids do grow and their body changes all the time; what may have fit her 2 months ago might be too tight now.

What's this - "I told them to Walmart"?
Well, gosh, I'm sure 911 was happy you decided not to call them back. What were you thinking lady? Get a grip and save your receipts. All stores require receipts to return merchandise even for purchases made the same day. They are not going to check their cameras because you careless with your receipt. Many stores will only do 90 day returns, so get it together.

IF this is even a real letter, I'm highly skeptical that you actually called 911 because you did not get in trouble for calling a number which is only meant for an emergency! and you are comparing this situation to Enron? Do you even know what happened there!?
That said, you are leaving out some facts. Did they offer you store credit on a gift card? Rarely will a store ever give you your money back without a reciept, whether you bought it 5 days ago or 5 minutes ago.
I also hate when people accuse employees of being "rude" because they dont like the answer they get.

I'm surprised this has remained at #1 for so long. I don't usually scream fake, but this letter is obvious shenanigans. A whole lot of reasons why are listed below, let me offer another. No African-American would ever misspell African-American. That's like an Italian-American writing Italyan-American or Asian-American writing Ashun-American. Wouldn't happen. Let this one die, guys.

Issue #1 - Wal-Mart's official store policy is as follows: You are allowed to return items 3 times without receipt in a 12 month period with a valid government issued ID (driver's license, passport, military ID or INS card). I know this because I worked at a Wal-Mart's customer service handling returns for a year. No, they are not going to check the cameras. That is an incredible waste of time on their part.
Issue #2 - You called 911 over such a stupid trivial matter??!! How many people's lives were put in jeopardy because the police had to deal with an unimportant matter like that! If you absolutely HAD to call the police, you should have used the non-emergency number. BTW, no, it is NOT illegal to refuse a return. Sounds to me like they were making up crap just to get you off the phone so they could get back to what they are SUPPOSED to do; save lives and protect the people. I hope you get fined for making that call.
Issue #3 - The race card. *sighs* Not everyone is a racist, honey. Me, personally, if it talks like an idiot, and walks like an idiot...well, you get the picture. Why is it people think they are justified to scream "racism" if they don't get their way? I'm a white woman, and I told whites, blacks, browns, and yellows alike that I coudn't help them. It has nothing to do with your race, but your ignorance.
(BTW, in my honest opinion, you are an American who's black. You are born in America, you are American. No other nationality before America. [end rant])

Yet another person who doesn't understand the purpose and importance of receipts.
If the OP called 911, they shoud send someone out to arrest the OP. Felone, illegal and hate crime. Come on now, be serious. How stupid are we supposed to be?
Sigh. I guess the OP will begin to realize it may pay to save their receipt. Where are the threats to tell all the friends about this, and reduce WalMart's bottom line? That is all that is missing here... Except a Mexican singing on the sidewalk.

According to a pamphlet I received from the Better Business Bureau regarding returns: No merchant is required to refund any purchase that is not defective or damaged in some way.
It is a courtesy to accept returns. Their policy is to require a receipt as many merchants do these days.
Calling 911 over this incident was irresponsible on the part of the OP and I suspect the police officers were humoring her when she called.
She deserves a fine.

YOU CALLED 911 because a store wouldn't let you return the clothes? I hope that's a typo. Or if it wasn't, I hope the 911 operator gave you an earful for wasting her time. Or better yet, that you were fined for making what sounds awfully like a prank call to 911. But since you claim they told you to tell the store that their actions were a felony, I'm going to agree with those who called shennanigans.

Can't you hold on to a reciept for a less than a day, if you bought the clothes that same day than you should have a receipt. Why did it not occur to you to take your reciept to the store.
I doubt that the police told you that this was a class ten felony, or a hate crime. You are just posting that to scare them. They won't fall for this because the police know many people pick items off the shelf and try to return them without paying for them. Or you are just trying to make Wal-mart look bad, but you look bad yourself writing such a letter.

This sounds so unreal!
Lost proof for buying clothes the same day?
and why would you call the police? Did you think they would call on you? A hate crime? And why is it in Walmart's best interest to give your money back? You are a bully!! I think you are trying to cover up a wrong that you have committed. Importantly, I think the store associates know you and maybe they are trying to put a stop to these low-level crime tricks. I always take things back to walmart and other stores. Hate to say this, but I have been without a receipt many times. Usually I request my returns to be credit towards my credit or debit card. I have never experienced any problems. Jamie, are you serious about this being a hate crime?

I quite honestly don't think this letter is real. Anyone who would ask the store to check the cameras, called 911, compared the company to Enron, goes to the police, and pulls the race card is either an idiot or is faking.
Also, the double initials trigger something. And not many people use 'right' in the place of 'write', no matter how illiterate.

How on earth did you lose the receipts that fast? Most likely it appeared you took them off the racks and walked over to return them without a receipt. Even if not so, they have a right to protect themselves from theives and by calling 911 you make yourself appear to be hysterical for no reason other than being turned down for an exchange on clothing?
Checking the cameras is confidential. They film most but not everything and if they disclose what is missing then it would breach security, making it easier for criminals.
For $86, that was FAST to lose one's receipt. I would say go home and try to look for it but chances are the authorities may already be dealing with you.
