Useless employees and rude

I went to the walmart#2174 on 141 Springfield
Road in Westfield, ma 01089 phone# 413-572-0400I went there to get a site to store pickup
and waited 1/2 hour before someone would wait
on me, I had to go find an employee on the other side of store to have them page someone to the site and no one showed up. Then exactly
8 men came out of the back and when I asked them for help or to page someone they told me
they were on their break and would not help me
finally after at least 12 people walked by me
and ignored me, a woman was just coming on to her shift and she helped me. I go to this store
every week and buy at least $100.00 worth of merchandise and I never can find anyone on sales floor to help me and when you do ask for
help they tell you its not their department.
and they do not even call anyone to help me.
If your store wasnt so close and best prices I would not shop their but I do say after today
experience I am not going there for a while and I am telling my friends and family about this episode.

Straighten out your system on site to store,
and also let your people know that even though
they are on break 1 minute of their time would
not kill them to page someone to help the public, if it wasnt for me and others there would not be any walmart for them to work.

You know what lady, the men on their break were not being rude. They
can actually loose their jobs for doing any work or customer service
while on their break. That is walmart policy. I work for them so just
chill out and it is not a big deal.

You tell me if this happened to you that you all would be just tickled
pink just waiting and waiting
and those people on break I just found out did not
want to help, that was their excuse because they were
not on break, they just did not want to HELP now tell
me your reply. I was not rude to them either I nicely
asked for help and was ignored. I also all you know
at alls thanked many times the woman who did help me
and also told the manager that she was wonderful so
now whats your great smart alec response. were you
there?

I guess I understand your problem, but you need to give some more
thought the next time you type out a complaint letter. Your letter
gives me a headache just trying to read it! There are so many sentence
fragments and run-ons. The last paragraph is just one long run-on
sentence! If you want Wal-Mart to take your complaint seriously, then
you need to type your letter out in complete sentences.

You're being incredibly presumptious to say that because they opted
not to help her that they have a ppor work ethic.

Furthermore, you're even further off base to ASSUME that "it'll only
take a minute." It would be nice if it worked that way, but if the OP
had that much trouble finding someone who could help her, what makes
you think that having one of those little walkie talkie things would
make a difference?

I remember LOTS of times calling for back up at the registers and
getting back response after response that people were with other
customers or doing another function that they couldn't just drop to
help a customer at that very minute.

That's the problem with OP's today - no sense of reality and
completely self-absorbed.

When I worked in retail, I used to try to help people even though I
was on my break. I'd point them in the right direction or get someone
to help them. That stopped the day the lady yelled at me and said she
didn't care if I was on a break, it was my job to help her, blah,
blah, blah. After that, I stopped helping people on my break but
instead developed "tunnel vision" while walking out of the store.

You just can't please some people and this lady ruined it for everyone
else.

I don't believe I was being presumptious at all, the OP stated exactly
8 people came out of the back and said they were on their break. That
is a poor work ethic. I stand with it, say it together, "I'm so
sorry, I'm on break! Let me call and see if I can get someone to help
you!" Now, time yourself, how long did that take? I do think it is
bad work ethic, I understand Walmart takes a stand on things like
this, from what one of the other posters said. But I would never let
someone walk into any place I have worked and ask for help and then
tell them that I couldn't help because I was on a break. So maybe you
should rethink the self-absorbed comment. The biggest problem with
this site is that so many people resort to insults.

Things really have changed by - Leanne- Tue June 5, 2007 @ 6:17 PM

by BellaSera Posted Fri June 1, 2007 @ 12:19 PM

I used to work full-time retail, and it always seemed that as soon as
I started walking to the breakroom, at least 10 people would stop me
for help. Apparently I exuded some kind of "on a break" aroma that
made people want to interrupt it. The problem was that I was usually
on a strict time schedule, whether for lunch or otherwise, and even a
few minutes on the floor meant a few minutes less for me to get a
break.

However, I do agree that the least the employees could have done was
called someone to help. That takes what, 30 seconds? When I was
stopped on my way to a break, my usual response was, "I'm sorry; I'm
actually on break right now. However, I'd be happy to get someone else
to help you."

What in the world is up with the spacing? (it gave me a headache too!)
But yea... its usually company policy for employees on break to BE on
break.. what if they were to get hurt helping somehow? When I worked
at Walgreens, I was supposed to stay in cosmetics 100% of the time
during my shift (yea like THAT happened) and was supposed to call
someone for other areas of the store (yea I know its not THAT big but
... yea) Companies have their policies.

When I worked in a large electronics store, complaints like these we
VERY common. Mainly because we DID have designated departments that
were we not supposed to stray from. Plus, I could tell you anything
you needed to know about computers, but im just stupid when it comes
to TVs or car stereo. Yes, departments should have the appropriate
amount of employees, for the customers sake as well as the employees.
Often times to cut costs, especially during the day employers dont
staff the appropriate amount of people to work... it a no win
situation for anyone!

Judging by the writing of this letter (and a few of your other
letters) this seems like it was exaggerated.

however, its tasteless to complain about people on their well deserved
breaks. No matter where you work, how much you make or what your
position is, you deserve a break.

Walmart will never change. ever. as a company they care little for
customers and even less for their employees. "if it wasnt for me and
others there would not be any walmart for them to work." Quoted from
you directly. Best advice, dont stand for it, stop shopping there.

I agree with PaintedLady. You have a valid complaint, except for the
part about the people on break not helping. Those employees likely
work VERY HARD for their breaks and are entitled to them.

I agree that you should have been helped sooner, but NOT from the
employees on break. First of all, they deserve an uninterrupted
break, and second, this is a firing offense (working "off the clock"
in any way, shape or form) at many stores these days, and I'm sure you
don't want causing someone to lose their job on your
conscience...right?
