Flippant Service

Posted Sun June 10, 2007 12:00 pm, by Tammy H. written to Burlington Coat Factory

Write a Letter to this Company

On June 4, 2007 I had an horrible experience with the manager. She literally called me a liar. The situation was all in about a 4.99 rack that one of the Burlington Associates posted wrong. I retrieved several items from the rack and ***** stated she does not know if I got those items from the rack. I told her to look at the video tape and she said that they don't have cameras. This verbal situation went on for about 10 minutes. Eventually, ***** states she would price the items at 4.99. In which she did not. ***** priced them at 4.93 therefore I could not place them on layaway. This situation would have been totally different if I were a caucasian lady. But I am not I am Black.

Burlington should re-train ***** on telling the truth. Actually, you can not train an individual on telling the truth. This is a said day for Burlington Coat Factory. I want to be compensated for my time I spent in a verbal squaddle with *****.

Please give up the "it's because i'm black" crap. It's not. bad
service is bad service and it sounds to me like it was more of a
misunderstanding than anything else. i cannot tell you how sick and
utterly tired of the race card. it doesn't matter what color you are,
you should have enough respect for your race not to resort to nonsense
like this.

Stop with the race card. You're doing your race a disservice with
that attitude.

All the comments that I wanted to make have already been made, so I am
left with just two questions . . . What would fair compensation be for
your time? Would that price be before or after the six cent
deductions for each item that you purchased below sale price?

I think it would be better if you invested in an education instead of
spending your money on clothes.

huh? you wanted to put 5 dollar items on layaway? so you went into the
store without even 5 dollars? what were you doing in there in the
first place?

Is this the same Tammy who wrote the supermarket letter? It was
strikingly similar to this one except people were following you around
and playing "white people's music" if I recall...

Why is it always the melanin blessed that get flippant service from
the melanin impaired and not the other way around? Lets get with the
program, She's not from the caucasas, she's pink not white and you're
not Black, you're African American and I have no clue where she's
from.
The video thing is preposterous. If they did have you on tape, it
would surely be because you're African American.

She undercharged you because you're African American? It sounds like a
strange cutoff ....you can only put things on layaway if they cost
4.99 or more?

I am sure I am missing some important facts regarding this letter.
What am I not putting together? Maybe, the fact that you feel you
have the right to not be questioned by anyone regarding the correct
pricing? Pray tell, and if you do get questioned, why use your
Blackness? I am missing something here. Shame on you! Oh, and angry
because you couldnt put your items in the layaway?

You are making assumptions regarding race with no proof to back them
up.

Asking to put a $4.99 item on lay-a-way is ridiculous and also asking
for copensation for the time you spent arguing with the manager is
unbelievable.

You actually saved an addition six cents per item but are still
complaining . . . . .

Ditto what most everyone else said. And one more thing: you are not
entitled to be "compensated" for your time. I'm so sick of people
thinking they should be compensated for every little inconvenience
life throws at them.

Sorry. I'm grumpy today.

Alright, apart from the obviously inappropriate mentioon of race, this
letter beings up some strange facts. The price was lowered below the
incorrect low sales price, and you are complaining. You were trying
to put $4.93 coats on layaway. It sounds from your letter that 4.99
coats are eligible for layaway, and 4.93 are not. It's good to know
there is a minimum (not that I have ever used layaway), but golly I
can't see a need to layaway a $5 coat. At least not enough to have a
ten minute squabble about.

The truth? I'm not sure you can handle the truth. Take the $5 coat
(which sounds like it should have been marked higher) and RUN.

by MA Loper Posted Mon June 11, 2007 @ 11:08 AM

So you got the clothes at a price even LOWER than you expected and
you're still upset because they won't let you put them in layaway -
SHEESH! There's no winning with you, is there?

OK, let me break this down for you.

First, it was a $4.99 piece of clothing. You were placing $4.99 worth
of merchandise in layaway??? I just can't even find words for that.

Second, I'm sure you won't understand this because I am a caucasian
and you are not, but NO ONE GIVES A FLYING FIG WHAT COLOR YOUR SKIN
IS. (My apologies to those African-Americans who actually KNOW this
and don't resort to pathetic tactics of crying racism whenever they
don't get their way!)

Grow up! Get a Clue! Get a Life! I am so sick to death of people
pulling the race card around here.

I'm going to start doing that too. Every time I go into an
establishment and I encounter someone who is of a different race than
mine, I'm going to start yelling about how I'm being
mistreated/treated unfairly because I'm white.

You say that, "you can not train an individual on telling the truth."
But where exactly did you show that she lied? All she said was that
she did not know that you had pulled the clothes from that rack - I
presume, because they rang up wrong. Nowhere did she lie, she didn't
even call you a liar, she just said she couldn't verify it.

Finally, you want to be companesated for your time? In the words of
Tag Team - WHOMP! There it is!!

#1 As stated before, many a time a shopper will pick something up to
look at it, and decide they don't want it. This, however, does not
guarantee that they will put it back in the same spot. It could have
even been an employee misunderstanding what items were to go on sale.
#2 Video cameras are for store security purposes, not to prove that
you are right.
#3 How does 6 cents make a difference when it comes to putting them on
layaway?
4# Employers are not responsible to train people to tell the truth.
That's mommy and daddy's job to do. If someone is old enough to be
employed, they should know the difference between truth and lie. How
were you lied to anyways? She said she didn't know how the items got
there. She then said she'd give them to you for an even lower
discounted price, which she did? How is any of that lying?
#5 RACE CARD!! I absolutely HATE people using the race card. It is
used far too much to excuse bad behavior. Hey, guess what? Maybe she
gave you attitude because you were rude, and had nothing to do with
your race. If someone is rude to me, I am rude right back, I don't
care if they are white, Hispanic, black, Asian, Native American, or
Gloxnols from the planet Hizzyzif. I think I'm going to try that.
I'm going to go act like a total jerk, and when people get in my face
about it, I'll say it's because I'm a ginger, and I'm solar
challenged. Sheesh, gimme a break. Like the Eagles said, "Get over
it."

Why would you put a 5.00 coat on layaway anyways?? Then you're
complaining that she LOWERED the price of the S-A-L-E price?? Real
rich I must say....
Sometimes people will pick up 5 coats to look at then return them to
the wrong rack. It happens. That does not mean that YOU need to be
rude to the cashier.

"This situation would have been totally different if I were a
caucasian lady. But I am not I am Black."

And you base this assumption on...?
The burning cross behind the counter?
The Klan robe the manager was wearing?

by kjandj Posted Mon June 11, 2007 @ 2:45 AM

I've seen managers argue with caucasian people too, so don't throw in
the race card. She eventually priced them 6 cents below the
advertised price. I've never used layaway, but is there a reason you
could put a $4.99 item on layaway but not a $4.93 item?
