She had another letter prior to this one to the same entity and with
the same complaint, AND it appears she submitted another letter today,
in much greater length and with weirder details, a letter that got
yanked almost as soon as she submitted it (we got it through the
bloglines feed).

What is a bloglines feed, please? (and i am glad her letter was
removed...she seems to be up to something less than honest)

If this happened.. and that's a huge if, simply don't shop there
anymore. Yes, call corporate and let them know if you speak to the
manager first and he/she offended and won't apologize. However, this
is capitalism. You vote with your dollars. The NAACP is not the route
to go. If this did happen, tell people you know, and don't shop there.

Right.

What led up to this? I doubt that this happened just out of the
blue.

P.S. Your given name wouldn't be "Virginia", would it?

If this did happen, I'm curious as to the race of the store employees.
If they're also black, maybe this is why the NAACP isn't interested.
(I've heard far more blacks than whites use the N word in my
lifetime.)

Yes, that would be interesting info n/t by Erin M. Mon June 25, 2007 @ 9:16 PM

I have no reason to not believe this happened, so I'll assume that it
did. I'll further assume that there isn't "another side of the
story."

If the NAACP isn't interested, why? Surely, if there's a store where
ALL the employees treat someone this way, they'd want to check it out.
No?

Surely, the corporate offices (to whom you're writing) would be
concerned. Why do you suppose they aren't?

I don't doubt you. And I don't think treating anyone this way is
acceptable. But I have to wonder why the NAACP doesn't seem to care.
And why corporate isn't even concerned enough to say that they are
sorry. Things that make you go hmmmmm....

While I am not excusing this behavior by any means I somehow think
that you are not telling us all that we need to know. If in fact this
did happen I am sorry, but you need to tell us more of the store, what
led up to them calling you that name and why they asked you to leave
and not come back. Also if you were this vague with the NAACP and
their Corporate Office, they are probably thinking the same thing.
Maybe you should rewrite this with the whole story and then you may
get some results.

Yeah, right. How about telling us all the details?

You wrote two letters, very minute ones with no details to go by to
help yourself appear believable.

Hiya Mel,

I think, I'm not sure, but I think you should have the names of all
people involved. The word "Nigger" is very offensive. I would never
say the word "Nigger" because I don't like the sound of the word
"Nigger".

Since the NAACP dosen't seem to have a problem with it, I think they
may not believe this happened, and even if it did, the wise thing to
do is to call the police and at the very least, have a record of the
incident. You DID call the police didn't you?????

I smell something laughable here. For a moment I thought this was
another letter from Angela E of the bad food, bad service, and bad
beer letters.

There is obviously no justification at all for using that word, and if
three people used it that's awful.

But I would really like to know what happened right before they banned
you from the store. It seems as if there's an awful lot missing from
this letter.

The only people I can think of who get together to drop the N-bomb in
public are rappers.

And I doubt that they work Dollar General gigs on the side, so...yeah.

Well. I am just about speechless, let me tell you. I am from Georgia,
and I can guarantee that the majority of people do NOT say things like
that here any longer!

Having said that, I will say this...

Shenanigans! I find it VERY hard to believe that *ALL* the employees
in the store, including the manager, assistant manager, and a cashier,
called you that. Period. There has to be more to this story, and if
you have already contacted Corporate as well as the NAACP and they
decided that nothing happened (which, in essence, is what they did,
because they haven't contacted you), then all the fingers are pointing
back to you. Where is your proof that you were discriminated against?
I think that you have a grudge against someone there at DG and just
want retaliation.

by S. Brown Posted Thu June 21, 2007 @ 3:25 PM

The Dollar General store manager, assistant manager and "all the
employees" didn't just start calling you names and tell you to not
come back out of the blue.

What happened?

Reply
by azgirl Posted Thu June 21, 2007 @ 2:31 PM

There is no excuse for the employees to be calling you that. With
that said, I doubt they called you names and told you not to come to
the store just out of the blue. What happened in the store?

The Dollar General Store was in Norman Park Georgia
