I've been away for a few days and I miss this? Wow where does one start?
OK the warrantee may be up, but I wouldn't jump to the conclusion the OP should summarily be dismissed and told to accept what is offered. Why? Because we don't know all the facts. Is this a simple microwave, and advantium or a trivection oven and NOT "just a microwave" If it's a "normal" microwave, I can see two years of depreciation leaving the OP with a stand alone unit is NOT fair. At the very least they could offer a new microwave with a bracket fitting and possibly exhaust and lighting unit IF it was an over the range model originally purchased. I simply don't have enough information to go on.
Why should we all become cynical? Why should we even CONSIDER playing the "Find the model" game? The poster states they paid 1200 and I believe them (I have no reason to doubt them at all). Should we demean the poster, accuse them of scamming etc.? I think NOT.
Is it possible the model was discontinued and no longer listed? YES
If a poster is incredulous or blind to the fact that someone can afford to pay for a GE Profile Kitchen that includes a 1200 dollar microwave and or microwave/convection combo and/or microwave, convection and light combo, should I jump on the "Find the Model Number" bandwagon when we don't know for sure if that model still exists? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

If you put a lemon in a microwave for 20 seconds, it'll be easier to juice.
Oh... wait... You didn't say "microwavED lemon"?
Well, as Emily Latella used to say... Well, never mind.

You wrote, "You can't make a company do something it has no intention of doing."
I quite agree -- which is why I don't buy products from Sears and would never buy any kind of warranty from them. They have a very poor reputation.
A couple of years ago, my top-of-the-line GE range died three weeks before the extended warranty expired.
Within five business days of my promptly-reported claim, I had a brand new and comparable range installed, free of charge. I didn't have to pay for a thing, plus GE offered a sizable discount on an extended warranty for the new range.
I literally saved thousands of dollars by purchasing the extended warranty. It may not have worked for you, but it certainly did for me.

The Sears extended warranty did work for me and paid off well, until it came down to the appliance needing to be replaced under the terms of the warranty. That's when the problems began. I think extended warranties are a great idea on things like refrigerators and washing machines that take a lot of abuse and are hard to live without when they break down.
Sears may have a poor reputation now, but there was a time when they were one of the most reliable companies in the country. Unfortunately, things have changed, and I'm not sure if I'll give them another opportunity to let me down. I agree that an extended warranty is only as good as the company from which it is purchased.

This is great! There seems to be several people who think they can provide this elusive model and prove that the OP could, possibly, be right. I\'d love to see if someone could possibly do it. Because there\'s enough people involved, make it simple on everyone. None of this, \"you think there\'s a model being sold here\". And no links, especially dead ones. JUST POST THE MODEL IN THE SUBJECT LINE. Simple, right?
The OP has stated \"The big problem is that my unit is a built in Profile unit that cost me $1,200.\"
If so many people honestly think this is a reasonable letter, then someone should be able to easily prove it correct.
Let\'s try to keep the conversation respectful for the sake of the site and those reading. My apologies to anyone who\'s been offended thus far. Apologies on your end are not needed.
Now, someone prove the letter writer correct. And, please, if the product doesn\'t qualify or you don\'t have any idea of what you are posting, don\'t. As was already stated, this unit must be a built-in or counter-top, as both are the same. The OTR models are not built in and are not framed for such. Make sure it\'s a Profile model and EVEN A RETAIL PRICE OF $1200 is reasonable.
So, can someone find the model which proves the OP right?

You should check the warrantee information. My built-in microwave has a 2 yr warrantee. I'm not sure about some of the others. But it is considered a major appliance. Did you have the first service call within the warrantee period? Have they been charging you for the service calls or providing them free of charge? If they're not charging you & it's not within the warrantee period, they're more or less admitting that the problem is with that particular unit. Good luck in your quest!

Wow Hyder! To state that your letter is without merit would be a horrible and complete understatement. You've totally and utterly belittled yourself with this letter. It is equally fair to state that only the most naive of readers would support such statements.
To begin with, there is not a General Electric microwave produced that sells for $1200. Even their Advantium Trivection design, considered the very tip of their line, sells for half that amount. So who do you think you're kidding?
Secondly, you've completely ignored any information of warranty coverage. If this appliance was sold with a one year-limited warranty, and the service calls were taking place after that fact, you have no cause for recourse. The fact that such a fine, upstanding company would even attempt to assist you by offering you the discount they did says a great deal about this manufacturer.
Further, you are using the terms of "built in" and "counter top" microwave as if they were two different and separate types of appliances. They are, most definitely, not. They are one and the same thing! A "built in" microwave is nothing more than a "counter top" complimented with an additional "trim kit". The microwave sets on a shelf, inside a cutout and then framed with the trim kit. So, no, they are not offering anything different to you than what you had. You just need to purchase the trim kit if it is different than the one you currently have.

Sorry to hear about this. I don't know what model you have, but I had good experience with my GE OTC microwave. I mention this because I wonder if there are other factors at play, such as improper wiring. You might be getting surges, for example.
Or, as you say, this might just have been a lemon and simply needs replacing. Unfortunately, that's what warranties are for. If the warranty is up, you might have little recourse.
A $450 microwave is NOT "inexpensive." That's a very expensive countertop model. Good sized microwaves can be purchased for under $200. And, unless you need something special or a particularly large model, a $100-$150 model should do you just fine. Careful shopping might even turn up something under $100 that fits you needs.
In other words, if you don't get somewhere with GE... don't go the $400 route unless you need something special and it's worth the money for it.
