Mistreated at The Children's Place

I was at the Children's Place yesterday and I used a gift certificate to check out. The register was very slow so the checker kept scanning the gift certificate through and I stood there for approximately 10 minutes before she moved over to another register. That register worked but when she handed me my receipt I noticed that the amount of my gift certificate was not correct. I asked about the discrepancy and for a couple minutes she explained to me that it has to be correct and that I must have used the gift cerficate more often than I thought. I knew there was almost $40 on it before it was used and there was only $9 left. I asked for it to be checked and she didn't know what to do so she called another lady over. The lady first questioned me for another couple of minutes and then called a number and was on hold for approximately 15 minutes with me standing there with 2 small children. After 15 minutes they realized that they had made a mistake and ran the gift certificate through too many times because the amount from the morning was in fact almost $40. I got no apology and when I asked what would have happened if I hadn't said anything I got a lecture about always having to keep my receipts and if I don't then I will not have proof. I was not the one who had made a mistake and asked for the amount to be put back on the GC. Then I stood there for another 5 minutes while her register was again not working properly and I asked if she could give it back in cash or another method which she said no and gave me another lecture on how that method will not work since she is already working on her machine. After another 5 minutes (and the entire time I was very patient and very polite just trying to keep my children from getting overly frustrated.)she gave it to me in cash and made more trite remarks. I never got an apology and I was more upset that she was rude to me when I was very compliant during the very long wait.

I would like to be compensated for the time and mistake of the store. If I had not said anything and not waited that 40 minutes then I would have lost out on the amount that I did not spend.
I would also like an apology from the store because I do feel that I was mistreated especially in having to be lectured instead of receiving the customer service that I normally enjoy at The Children's Place.

I agree you shouldn't have been given a lecture or scolded on how to
use your card when clearly it was their error. Despite their snide
remarks, I'm glad to hear they did correct it and refund you your
money from the error they made. Some might not have bothered to find a
manager to correct it and stuck you with it.

I really get sick of the "you made my small children wait" line. If
you don't want your children to be frustrated and tired then don't
take them shopping. Things like this happen from time to time.

They corrected the problem (in cash, I might add) and you want to be
compensated for 40 minutes of your time. How, might I ask? You say
you normally enjoy the customer service there. One technical mistake
and you are completely swayed to the other side?

Although I think she has a valid complaint, I get SOOO tired of that
'I had kids with me' line too.

When my kids were little, I either left them with my mom or their dad
when I shopped, or if I had to take them with me, I sucked it up and
dealt with it.

I get awfully tired of people adding to their complaints with the 'but
I have kids' line, as if that makes their complaint more urgent and
important.

you could have easily returned everything and got your card back and
left. They don't owe you anything. Yea, an apology would have been
nice but what do you think they owe you exactly??? HOW were you
mistreated?? They fixed the problem. They didn't call you a liar or
anything. Ugh, its people like you who make me hate working in retail.

Just once I'd love for one of these "compensate me for my time and
inconvenience" folks to give an estimate of what they feel they
deserve.
Ought to be good for a laugh.

Mistakes happen, they corrected it, no compensation should be
forthcoming. Next...

You don't deserve compensation for your time or inconvenience.
Sometimes, mistakes happen, shopping sucks, whatever. It's called
"life," and you move on.
