Simple rules of etiquette!

Posted Tue July 10, 2007 10:27 pm, by Catherine R. written to Taco Bell

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

I had a rather large yet simple order. I noticed that I was served through the window with a small to medium sized bag. I questioned the worker, "Is this all of my order?" and his exact response was "Yay", meaning YES i'm assuming. I had several kids at my house starving after a long day at the park. Four miles away, i arrived home to find that I had more of my order MISSING than was actually there. However, I did have a half bag full of FIRE sauce. I drove all the way back to taco bell after finding my crumpled receipt and was forced to wait in the LONG drive up line. The inside was now closed. I actually had to tell them what they did give me in an effort to retrieve all that they DID NOT give to me. The personnel were all rude and unmoved by their mistakes. I even questioned where the manager was and much to my surprise the person that said "yay" was the manager. Only now he was unavailable because he was on his cell phone still at the drive through taking orders. I WONDER WHY MY ORDER WAS WRONG????? Guess what, after waiting in line AGAIN and leaving, my order was still, wrong. There were still 5 tacos left out!
And I'm sitting here thinking, why do they demand an increase in minimum wage?????

I would like FULL compensation for the meals ordered and I would also like something to be done about the service provided. Some payment for gas and time would be nice as well but one can only dream!!!!!!!!!!

all this trouble because you didn't employ the patent pending "eydie's
rule for insuring correctness." you did not check the order before
you got out of the drive through. you have no idea how many headaches
this saves. you simply open the bag(s) while you are still able to
look up into the eyes of the person who, oh yes, deserves far more
than they are paid, and say, "oops, five of my tacos are missing."
let this be a lesson to you.

You should have checked your order, especially with the unprofessional
"yay".

It sounds like the service pretty much sucked, and I am sorry for
that. However, in such a case (and pretty much as routine) you need
to check your order at these places.

I'm a little late to this letter, but I still have to ask, if the bag
seemed a little small/light, why oh why didn't you check it before you
left. I would have been curious as to why it isn't as heavy as it
should be and would have looked in. And why didn't you pack some food
for your children to eat instead of letting them starve until 11pm to
eat. You don't deserve payment for gas or time, it was your choice to
go there and your choice to leave without checking your order.

There is no excuse for crappy service from the employees, they should
do it right the first time, however, you deserved what you got, for
not once, but TWICE not bothering to look in your bag!

Poor service - yes
Incomplete order - yes
Ignant Staff - yay (I didn't know Lil Jon had a side job!)
Poor etiquette - Where?

Where did they broach some "Emily Post" rule for fast food service?
Are there even such rules for fast service?

I realize you were upset at getting the run around, but this letter
just plain sucks out loud!

Let me get this straight. You got a bag that seemed way too small to
hold your entire order, yet you did not bother to look inside the bag
and check. (Maybe you thought it was like a clown car.) Then, you go
home, drive back, ask for the rest of the order, then proceed to drive
away without checking AGAIN. Uh-huh. Think about this for a moment,
will you?

I'm not entirely sure I understand the title of this letter. What on
earth does etiquette have to do with anything you bring up?

by Gino Posted Wed July 11, 2007 @ 11:08 PM

I'm guessing "Yay" means "Jay"? Or am I reading too much into that
comment? Although it's been said, many times, many ways. I found from
my own experience, it always pays to check the order before leaving
ANY fast food store, especially the drive through. Yes, you should
have gotten what you ordered. Absolutely agree with that. "Why do they
demand an increase in minimum wage???????

I humbly suggest "trading places" and see for yourself how difficult
it is to maintain any level of etiquette, when you can't afford to buy
your kids fast food and take them to the park because you have to work
a full time and part time job to make ends meet.

its not only to point out mistakes to company. There ARE people who
send companies COMPLIMENTS, which I think most of the people on this
site tend to ignore. This site isn't only for complaints.

You're adult enough to be taking care of children yet not smart enough
to make sure the order is right?

While my first response to the OP is that you should have checked your
order when you questioned the size of the bag, you were right to go
back and complain.
It's a sad fact but fast food service is getting worse and worse.
Ignore those who criticize you for feeding your kids fast food, they
do it too. And despite the fact that there are other, worse issues in
the world, you should still expect to get what you pay for even if it
is just decent service and the tacos you paid for at a fast food
restaurant. No one is doing these kids a favor by overlooking bad
employee skills. Fast food is often what they start out with and
unless they learn it right in the beginning they will turn into lousy
employees as adults who can't keep a job.

You had me until you said that. This is such an ugly statement and
unless you've HAD to live on min. wage, you have absolutely no right
to comment on it in such a way.

I have a feeling you just want something for free here, why did you
not check your bag after you thought it yourself it was too small for
what you ordered. Why did you not check your order a second time
after being cheated the first time.

Isn't eating after 9 or so bad for you? Your not gonna get gas money
or probably not for the meals either. Mistakes happen. I'm sure you've
had plenty to deal with on YOUR part. I'd LOVE to see if Mr. FCC man
comments on this...

If the inside of the restaurant was closed, it couldn't have been
earlier than 10 p.m., more likely 11 or midnight. Don't tell me that
your kids skipped supper and now it's the restaurant's fault that
they're starving?

Yes, of course, the food order should have been complete. But YOU
should have checked your order. If you'd done it the first time, you
wouldn't have had to have made another trip back.

Sounds like the manager doesn't care. That makes it YOUR job to make
sure your order is right.

I have learned to check my order before I leave. If I am in the drive
I pull ahead (so I am not holding up the line) but I will check my
order to make sure all of it is there before I leave the store area.

After it has happened a few times to me you just start checking. The
few times it happened to me I have called the fast food place and they
have always sent me a coupon for a free menu item.

What exactly did you have in mind?

Yep, one only CAN only dream. Nighty-night.

You know, I actually thought you had a valid complaint for awhile, but
the tone of this letter just made me lose all sympathy.

Oh, and here's a simple rule for you: ALWAYS check your order before
you leave, no matter how many times you've had to go through the
drive-thru.

NEVER never pull away from that window until you check out the full
contents of the bag.

"And I'm sitting here thinking, why do they demand an increase in
minimum wage?????"

I believe it's because the cost of living is rising exponentially in
America and lower income families can no longer afford adequate health
care or to even feed their families.

But gee, I'm super sorry to hear that you didn't get all the tacos you
wanted to eat at Taco Bell. That must just be awful.

I have to agree with PaintedLady.
It's incomprehensible to me for someone to go through what you did and
NOT check the order on your return visit.

I agree that drive-thrus are a hit or miss these days, but why, after
your first order was wrong, didn't you check your second time while
still sitting at the window? It's always best to double check every
time, saves time and gas.
