wow. not surprising... next time, i'd advise being patient with the managers and cashiers... also watch not to get too upset in situations like this, because that's when you forget small things like, your reciept.
good luck.

I had my local McDonald's rip me off too. I had A LOT on my mind one day a few weeks ago and I just wasn't thinking about anything else. I was going to give the lady at the first window $1.06 for my ice cream cone, but instead changed my mind and gave her $20.06 so that I could have some change to pay my sister back for lunch. By the time I got to the first window, I forgot that I had done this, and gave her the money, went to the next window, got my food, and left. Later when I went to pull out my money to pay my sister, that is when I remembered I drove right through without getting my change. I called the store back right away and they checked the drawer a couple times. Even my receipt showed that I gave her $20.06 and she owed me $19 change, but her drawer actually came up "a few cents short" they said. They tried to pretend like they really cared and told me to just check my car, etc. It wasn't there and it was my word against hers. It was definitely a $19 lesson in paying attention at the drive-thru! I have seen shows before on TV where they record customers getting too much change back to see if they will be honest and give it back to the cashier. Now I would like for them to do this with customers giving the employees too much money and seeing what happens.

Sorry dude, now you know better. Those you mentioned practically live on this thing and do have very high opinions of themselves. You'd think they were the Planetfeedback founders. But, all in all, I found your comments good natured, funny, refreshing and well spirited because although your facts might not be exactly accurate, you certainly nailed the character. So thanks for the humor, the laugh and keep coming back here. You're refreshing!
I only used this space to reply since you started a war in your reply section and I didn't want to get tangled up in that stupid web!

Your comments on this site are *consistently* hostile and rude to the letter writers, so I hardly think you're one to criticize ANYBODY on this site.

I'm a long time lurker, few times poster...and I hate to say it, but I've seen the ganging up happen that Rhet and William H. have mentioned. While I don't agree with both sides feeding the fire (and I found that the 'old guard' for lack of a better term), have made good points as well.
But honestly, there have been a couple of times I changed my mind about posting because I was leery about the potential comments I may get...that's just me though...
Re-lurking now!

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
And I find it highly *ironic* that you, of all people, have decided to jump on the 'they're all so MEEEAAAANNN' bandwagon.
While I'm no saint, I can at least say I'm not a hypocrite. Too bad you can't say the same.

Your math doesn't add up and you contradict yourself because of it, so how credible are you? Not at all in my opinion. You should count your change right there at the cashiers window to make sure there are no errors......and they give you your receipt at the cashiers window, not the food pick up window.

I can understand why you are upset. But calling this employee a thief without any proof they stole the money could in turn put you in a bad situation.
Why did you leave and not give them your contact information if in fact you know you were given incorrect change? That in turn makes you look guilty of trying to scam them. Because now they are probably not going to take you seriously at all.
Lastly, they are not going to fire this employee because you claim she stole money.

Since I haven't seen a comment about this yet...calm down. Calling the employee a thief is a HUGE leap here--for all you know, she's simply bad at math and miscalculated, or the five that was supposed to be part of your change was dropped on the floor. You do not have any proof that she "slipped the money in her pocket" yet you jump to state that she's an experienced thief.
While I am aware that this happens (I've known people who've done it at places like 7-11, taking change from drunks) it is not going to win you any points to jump immediately to that conclusion.
This is yet another letter I would suggest a re-write on, and suggest as a lesson for next time. Next time, make sure you do not leave without a copy of your receipt and the manager's name. Leave them with your name and phone number, so they know you are serious and can contact you with a resolution. This also gives you ammunition if you write a complaint letter, which should not include accusations of thievery so blatant. The letter also needs to be calmer, and slightly more organized, as it really is not easy to read. And please, leave out the first few lines--management/corporate does not care about the rest of your day or the fact that you got lost--it is not their fault and has nothing to do with your complaint.

I had that happen once (not at McD's) but was to get cash back (using debit) got halfway home and realized duh I didnt get my cash back (which I blame myself too) called the store told them what happened they said they would have to let me know tomorrow because they had to wait till they cashed out the machine that night. Next day they called me got my money. Now I am not saying she couldnt of taken it but you should give them a chance to run out the machince and let you know before you call someone a theif.

Michael, I'm having a very difficult time figuring out what is is that you're saying happened.
If you got shorted $5, then either the receipt should have shown that you gave the clerk $15 (not $6) or the drawer should have been off.
I initially read "the manager check[ed] her drawer, came up clean" as saying that they counted the drawer out in front of you, but after thinking about it I suspect that they didn't actually do that, because they probably couldn't direct the rest of the drive-through customers to a different register. That means that they would have needed your name and phone number so they could follow up with you when that drawer did get counted down (and when the manager on duty managed to get hold of the video), so I'm wondering why you didn't want to provide it to them, especially since this probably isn't a McDonald's you visit often enough that they'd remember to bring it up the next time you're in. I'm also wondering why you didn't ask for your receipt back.
Some people who do try to convince cashiers to give them more change than they are due will push the issue right up until it comes time to provide their information -- at that point, when they risk losing the anonymity that protects them if their deception is doscovered later, they'll say "Never mind!" and leave. So while it may seem "obvious" to you that the cashier stole your money, it may also seem "obvious" to the manager that you were trying to scam the store.
If I were in charge of deciding whether or not to give you $5, I wouldn't give it to you. This is not because I have formed a judgement as to what actually happened (in particular, I am not accusing you of scamming) but because the information you've given does not give me a clear idea of your side of the story, and that means you haven't convinced me that you are right.

I would assume that all businesses that use a cash register have pretty much the same basic routine.
The business gets a printout of the sales for the day, the money is counted and compared to the figure to determine if the register balances.
It could have been impossible to do it at the time but it could have probably been determined later.
It would have been a good idea to leave your name and number.

Here is some feedback about what is going to happen:
Someone called Redhead is going to tell you you spelled "recipt" wrong.
Then another person Princess is going to yell at you for not leaving your name and phone number with the manager.
if you come on here and object to their comments, princess will tell you to shut up n/t and someone else will tell you how intelligent the Redhead is.
In between all of that, other people will come here and tell you how wrong you are for writing to mcdonalds corp because they are mostly franchised.
Can you tell I been reading a lot of comments on this site the past few days?
