Progressive Commercial - Who Wants To Be Quiet?

Write a Letter to this Company
Every time I see the "Crazy Woman with Kids" commercial, as I like to call it, I have to wonder what it is that you are trying to get across to your potential customers.
You know, the one where the Progressive rep stops by to deliver papers to a frazzled woman who is watching a house filled with four little kids. It's cute how giddy and weird she is when she greets the guy, but then when she closes the door we hear...
"WHO WANTS TO BE QUIET?!?!" *WHAM*
What the heck is that supposed to be? The first time I saw this commercial I thought it sounded like a gunshot... further viewings made me also consider that it could be one of the children only being hit by a 2x4 instead of being shot. ;-)
I mean, it's a funny commercial... it doesn't offend me or anything... I'm just not sure what it is you're wanting us all to think with that last little part. Kinda creepy.

If it makes anyone feel better, I saw this commercial yesterday, and they took the sound of the "wham" out. The commercial hasn't been changed, but the loud noise has been removed. I guess they got a lot of complaints and removed the sound byte as to not offend people.

Maybe you should just turn your TV off. If your writing a letter to complain about something like that, you REALLY need to get out more. Kids break things, parents are busy, and the commercial was trying to emphasize that. Are you sheltered?

I wonder if some people have already complained about this, since the one shown in my area cuts off right after she closes the door and says, "who wants to be quiet?"

You remembered who the ad was for, didn't you? I think that is what they want most.
Personally, advertising is completely, and without exception, wasted on me. That is, as far as inspiring me to use a product. The ads that make me laugh, like this one, are the only thing that makes commercials tolerable. The Geico insurance commercial where the guy is with the therapist, and she asks him to speak with a doll, and he says "it doesn't talk back......... because it's a doll" gets a chuckle also.
Contrast this to the ridiculous, and seemingly endless, HeadOn commercials. Now they have a group of Jim Jones-sounding people repeating "HeadOn, apply directly to the forehead" in the background. Come on, what person would actually buy this stuff after seeing one of these ads?
The Progressive ad is at least funny. I don't think the last part is something they necessarily want you to think about. I am not a parent, but I think parents must resolve to not think about every single thing, or they would go nuts.

That sounds like my house on a daily basis and I only have two.
The banging sound reminded me of what it sounded like the day my kids broke the coffee table. Someone jumped on it, but amazingly nobody knows who did it.
I'm glad you didn't take offense to that. I personally think it's a cute commercial.

It can be anything lol Really. We moms wind up in all types of situations with the kids at the least predictable time. It might look worse if she appeared evil to the guy and THEN you hear the noise lol. You just have to let your imagination in on that one. Besides, they got you thinking about Progressive right? So it worked. No proof of child abuse there.

Heh... I don't think I know the one that you're referring to. I wonder if a "wife swapping" and "pedophilia" search on YouTube would yield any results. (Besides a knock on my door from the FBI heh)

I enjoy reading your comments. I'd post that in your profile, but it's not open (hint).
