The best part about this complaint is that if you get your way, those lazy employees will be told by management they have to stick around another hour a night because they have to keep the the ice cream machine open until 10:00, (and ofcourse the company will tell them they will have to stay longer to clean it but not get paid for the time they have to stick around to clean it) and they will make sure that after 9:00pm the ice cream will be very special.

This letter is extremely condescending and petty.
Calling the employees "FREAKING LAZY" is really unprofessional and has no place on a letter that gets sent to a corporation. If you want your complaint to be taken seriously next time leave out the snide and petty comments, as well as the ALL CAPS.

No kidding! You are lucky to be eating at a place that really does clean and sanitize the shake machine. Did you know that the process of doing that takes over an hour? By cleaning the machine they are ensuring your health! And if you are doctors why are you eating at a burger joint, at night, before bed? And why does my doctor tell me not to do that? Are you saying that these practices are good for our health?

The restaurant should have a sign posted that states the "cut off" time for serving shakes---but it should STILL stick to the cleaning schedule!! I can't tell you the times that I have gotten food poisoning from restaurants who DO NOT enforce regular (read--daily!) cleaning of their frozen yogurt, milkshake, or soft-serve machines!!
(I have to think twice about even ordering dairy foods that are made in machines.) Be happy they clean them--hopefully, they truly ARE cleaning them.

Your a doctor and eating this junk food that often? YUCK....Plus health dept. standards...worked at Wendy's when I was a teen and cleaning those machines are not as simple as you would think.
Be glad they clean it.

While I think your attitude could be better, you do have a real complaint. The fact that you and your husband are "Doctors", is not important. Regular joes are busy also. I am not impressed and it doesn't make me feel your pain.
However, if the machine is broken for this long, it needs to be replaced. If it has been cleaned and the employees don't want to use it again, a notice should be posted. A customer should be able to order anything on the menu up to closing time. If this is not the case, an exception should be noted, ie, shakes will not be served after 9pm. Or the order must be placed 30 minutes prior to closing time, etc.
I know employees are tired and anxious to go home and the restaurant should pay them for the extra time to clean after closing or make adjustments as noted above.
But you know, life as we know it will not end because of a milkshake!

Here's a thought....you get a crappy fast food job and tell me in a week if you care about the milkshake anymore! I worked at McDonalds for 4 years while in college and if you didn't clean the machines early, you could expect to be there VERY late (I had a few times when I was there when the morning shift came in). Here's another thought, get a blender, some ice cream, milk, and make your own shakes! Seems to me you're the lazy one!

Buy your own Whataburger Ice Cream/Malt making machine. I'm sure they sell them on infomercials during the wee small hours of the morning :)

From your spelling and grammar, as well as your predilection for "pretty much everything" at Whataburger, I somehow doubt you are a doctor.

We used to do this when I worked at Hardee's...of course, we would always make the item and then have to clean the machine again. We used to close early too...sometimes by about 15 or 20 minutes. Ooops.

Unless they have a sign up saying "all food guaranteed to always be available" or somesuch, any eating establishment has the right to decline to serve any item. Mayb the machine is broken, maybe it's being cleaned, maybe they don't have all the ingredients, maybe they're just understaffed and certain items take too long to make to adequately serve all the customers. It really doesn't matter, they have every right to do this... indeed, there might even be laws that state the machines must be cleaned every certain time period.
Bottom line: getting a shake when you want it is not a constitutional right. Make enough of a pest out of yourself and you'll probably find yourself banned from the whole restaurant for good.

I know from experiancing both sides that from the customers perspective its annoying, however i was a manager at mcdonalds and at a certain time the machine goes into a 'clean and defrost' mode all on its own so they cannot be sold and also when we were short staffed and would not have time to run around making ice cream, mdflurrys and shakes we would say that it was broken but its hard enough to do 30 cars in an hour when you have a full staff of 5 1 to take order 1 to make bugers 1 to make fries and help buger maker 1 to pass you the order and 1 to do prep. (late night full staff) never mind when 2 people have called in sick and you have 3 people this means you have 1 person to ake the order and do prep 1 person to make bugers put the meat on the grill and in the deep fryer and 1 person to get all the drinks, fries and put the orders together pass them out then stock up. Theres usually a reason fo doing things and yes it sucks that you cant get what you want but if you want the truth just tell them that you have gone in durring the day and got a shake and it seems that every night you come in it seems to be broken why is that? if the worker wont tell you the truth ask for the manager and just tell the mamager that its bad practice to lie to the customers and if they have cleaned it early tell them you are going to be talking to their head office about whats going on im sure it will stop!

...and I would never, ever refuse a customer just because it was late in the evening. If you're open, you serve them. Period. Yeah, it sucks, but you chose to work there. That is your job.
I feel like an old fart for saying this, but people are severely lacking in work ethic.

Remind me to avoid your doctors office, because I'd hate the advice you'd give. Are you seriously complaining that they clean the ice cream machines? If it really is an issue, go somewhere else! MOST burger places, are open late, and serve shakes! Being a police officer (no point in mentioning my job, but your a doctor and did it so i feel i should follow :)) I eat out quite a lot and am yet to find a burger joint that does not serve shakes! Are you also one of those people that get to the airport 30 mins. before your flight leaves, and expect prompt service? You are setting a poor example for the kids!!

I think the complain is valid but this letter is so poorly written I'm shocked.
Certainly, you could have bypassed english class on your way to an MD credential but it just seems a bit odd that a well-educated person could use such poor spelling!
And mentioning your career really isn't appropriate anyway!

if you and your husband are really Drs., SHAME on you for eating that much fast food. Regardless of your shift, surely you can find something more healthful to eat than Whataburger. You need to watch the documentary "Supersize Me."
Second, I worked at Friendly's in college. If I had a dime for how many times the Fribble machine broke, I'd be a millionaire. One person cleaned it wrong, lost a part, reassembled it wrong, and the thing was down for WEEKS. So no, I don't believe that it is necessarily true that the staff is just lazy and lying to you - but, how incredibly presumptious and self-important of you to think that they just don't want to serve YOU, so they shut off the machine before you get there.
Finally, as others have pointed out, your grammar, sentence structure and phrasing just plainly suck. All I can think is writing a letter like this, you MUST have been at the BOTTOM of your class in medical school.
So glad you aren't MY doctor!

Are you really a doctor. If so I wonder who gave you your degree with such spelling and grammar. You really need to proofread your letter, that is if you are not too LAZY to run a spell check and proofread.

...it's not impossible for someone to have an advanced degree in the sciences, and be utterly hopeless with English composition.
Seriously, who CARES if she's a doctor? It has absolutely nothing to do with the issue (hell, she should've left it out--blatant appeal to authority) She clearly hasn't worked in the food service industry and doesn't have a clue about procedure, so would it be so freakin' hard to just say "they have to clean the machines, TS for you".
Why stoop to being utterly nasty...bah.
Really, I'd just suggest that she ask the manager why this has been the case for 8-9 months, instead of being sneaky ("they just don't realize how [often] we go..."). If he's honestly using the "it's broken" line, then he either needs to replace the faulty machine, or quit lying about the reason...since it led to this ranting letter.

Try going to a casual dining place with a bar. They make shakes in the blender, and can make almost any flavor you want. Most have take-out cups.
Since the blender is almost as easy to clean as the rest of the glassware, it won't be "broken" until last call.

As a "doctor" I would think that you'd be happy that they clean these machines daily. Not only is it the law, but it's just cleaner and healthier - as healthy as a fast food milkshake can be anyway.

All ranting in your letter aside...
My father is a doctor. So is his husband. We eat at fast food joints probably about once a month. Because they're doctors, they know how unhealthy that stuff is, therefore it's a rare treat. In fact, many people with more than ten brain cells can come to that conclusion.
You really need to get a grip, lady.

If you are indeed a "doctor" please tell me where you practice so I never become ill or injured in the area!
I am a Nurse and if a Doctor talked the way you write he/she would be brought before the Hospital Board for immediate drug testing! OK! OK! I'll be nice.....I doubt very much so that you are a physician and I also think this letter is silly. With all the things that there are to complain about you choose milkshakes, WOW! Here is a tip take some of that "Doctor" money and eat a better/healthier establishment. Live it up go to Chick Fila!!! And if you really want to splurge California Pizza Kitchen, they have awesome salads!!!
(Also I agree with the poster who said "Just because you wear scrubs to clean the toilets doesn't make you a Doctor" Now that's funny!!

I have been to that exact Whataburger and while it IS right next to a hospital, I sincerely and completely doubt that the OP is a physician.
Here's the deal, Sherpy; the fact that they make you wear scrubs to clean the bathrooms does not make you a doctor.

Not really, I always wanted to say that and this was the perfect excuse.
I find it highly unlikely that any doctor worthy of her title would use this style of writing, not to mention use the words "the WORKERS ARE TOO FREAKING LAZY " and seriously expect anyone to reply.
Are you practicing? Or is this really your letter?

I'm sorry but this letter is full of grammatical/spelling errors. You being a professional should know that a poorly written letter like this will not get anyone's attention at corporate.
I have a friend who manages a 24 hour McDonald's. He told me that the shake machine has to be cleaned every night. It's for health and safety reasons. Any shake residue left on the machine can and will cause harmful bacteria that will make you sick. You being a "doctor" should know that. It also has to be cleaned because the contents inside the machine will freeze and they will have to take the whole machine apart to defrost it.
Also I would like to point out that eating fast food the way you consume it is not good for you. Also being a "doctor" you should know that. I can make a complete meal in under 20 minutes for me and my kids with a bag of salad, a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, dried cranberries, walnuts, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. A lot healthier and probably costs just as much if not less.

This is a terrible letter. If you are a doctor, you need serious help with your grammar & spelling. For that matter, if you are an adult, you still need serious help with your grammar & spelling!
And to those readers who are from Arkansas, I'll apologize for the OP. She makes it sound like her poor friends from AR don't get out much if they choose to eat breakfast, lunch & dinner at Whataburger during their entire trip to Shreveport!
Proof read your letter before hitting Submit. It can save a world of embarrassment.

I've worked fast food. By law, the shake machine has to be sanitized every 24 hours. It takes a solid hour to empty, clean, and sanitize the shake machine (not counting interruptions from customers). It's done in the evening because that is the least popular time for selling shakes. The store is choosing to inconvenience as few people as possible by shutting the machine down when business is slower.
The employees can't refill it and get it going because then the machine would be turned off when it's time to go home, thus requiring them to drain all the shake mix out.
You owe the "lazy" employees an apology.
Grow the hell up already and find another place that's open later and can give you a shake. Freakin' whiner.
