2007 and not 1961 Civil Rights- You broke the LAW!!

Posted Tue October 9, 2007 12:00 pm, by Julia B. written to McNaughton & Gunn, Inc.

To Whom It May Concern
On October 1, 2007 my company Money To Be Made Entertainment, Inc. filled out a credit application with McNaughton & Gunn, Inc. In order to have a mass production of my books printed by their company. We spoke with ***** who pulled the application and gave it to a credit representative for that company. I was told that we would get a call regarding the credit on Monday, October 8, 2007 this call never happened. On October 9, 2007 I called her to inquire about the credit application, it was at this time she told me that she would call and ask her to give us a call. It was not five minutest later that I received a call from an EXTREMELY RUDE woman who identified herself as *****. She was rushed and frustrated. She told me that she was unable to grant us credit based on the information provided and referred to our business credit as personal credit. It was at this time I corrected her and told her that this was our Business Credit. I also informed her that we had an 80 ranking with Equifax and other reporting agencies which is the very highest you can get. But in spite this clarification, she still referred to our business credit as personal. She was rude and came across racist as she made negative comments about our name. I would recommend that McNaughton & Gunn close their doors for business as they hire the most ruddiest people the world has to offer. I would not be surprised if this company did its recruiting from the nearest State Prison. We will not ever do business with this company. They advertise that they offer Business Credit however this is just a gimic to sucker you into doing business with them. They should be investigated for false advertisement. It is not so much that they denied it, it was their reasoning for denying it did not add up. Secondly to add insult to injury they were very rude. Perhaps they should add a web banner which reads (NO BLACKS ALLOWED).

Sincerely,

Julia A VERY UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER

Either go out of business or get with the twenty first century! This is America 2007 and not America 1961! It is illegal to discriminate against other business because they are black owned. We would like a written appology.

Huh? Did they even know you were African American? As`somebody in the
lending business banks don't make money if they don't make loans. All
money is green baby!!!

I'm not sure if Julia B realizes that ALL of her personal information
(including phone number) were Google-able based on her post? Don't
worry, I'm not calling. It's just a heads-up about removing personal
information...

Her letter is absolutely ridiculous, especially after you read her web
page. The women I meet, with the attitude she professes, don't play
the "race card." (Oh, I see that game often - but not from the kind
of woman Julia B. says she is.)

Her book's on amazon.com.

Always playing the damned race card. Hell a black teen overcharged me
at the store the other day. I bet she did it because I am white. Get
a life.

You can not say that you/your company were denied approval because of
your race, if the person handling your application was unaware of your
ethnicity. Here's my question, did you complete any paperwork that
asked for your ethnicity? If not, I am sorry but I have to agree with
the other posters on this one. I do however acknowledge that
discrimination in the form of loan denials, higher loan APR, and such
does happen. I just don't believe it happened in your case.

Here we go withe "race" issue again. Everytime someone does something
wrong to a black person it always turns out to be a "race" issue. GET
OVER YOURSELF, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. QUIT YER SNIVELLIN'. You were
denied because they considered you a credit risk, not because you were
black. Plus, how was that other person on the end of the phone
supposed to know that you were black? Get a life!

I am guessing that the issues brought up by the OP about the name is
about the name of the company. Not the OP's name.

Money To Be Made Entertainment, Inc

I have a feeling the credit was denied on the TYPE of business...not
who is behind it.

They saw it as a credit risk. Plan and simple. The was no COLOR
involved.

I am not black and I have a lot of trouble getting credit. Maybe next
time I fill out an application I should make a note telling them I am
white to ensure they approve me.

First off, you need to understand what a 80 EXPERIAN score means
(Equifax does not monitor business credit). Separately, if she was
also referring to D&B rating 80 PAYDEX score is marginal to say the
least.

80 isnt a fabulous score on either report, 90 & above with atleast a 2
year history & several vendors reporting (5 or more) is what most
creditors are looking for to extend business to your company.

If you dont have those basics you are behind the eightball, not to
mention if you dont understand when someone is trying to explain these
facts to you. Its not a race thing, its a credit worthy thing...and
your nasty attitude when you didnt get the $$$ you wanted *shug* hey
you just met your match & she wasnt going to take crap off you.

You have a few problems with your letter.

First of all, you give absolutely no proof that you were discriminated
against based on your race. Now if, perhaps there was additional
conversation with the "rude woman" to effect of her calling you an
"ignorant N-word" or other inappropriate degrading slur, that would be
very different. But based on what you wrote, you have no basis to
argue or even suggest that the rep's motives were racially motivated.

Secondly.you have no proof that they broke any laws. They are not
OBLIGATED to extend credit to you based on YOUR interpretation of your
credit rating. They said, quite plainly, that based on the
information YOU provided them, they could not provide you with any
credit. If you failed to include pertinent information, that would be
an entirely different situation.

You might have a great relationship with Equifax, but maybe this
company uses Transunion (or whatever it is this week!)when they check
someone's credit. Just because you claim to have a great rating
there, if that's not where they obtain their verification, it might as
well be printed on the moon. Credit is a privilege, not a right.

Third, you have no proof of false advertising either. Did they say
that they extend credit to EVERYONE? Then how did they mislead you?
Your outrage aside, none of your opinions even REMOTELY factually
based.

For someone who claims to be an entrepreneur, you aren't very smart
about how you handle your business, nor how you present yourself. No
one is going to want to work with a vendor that claims they are being
racilally discriminated against everytime things don't go their way.

I would also advise that you consult an attorney before you post
letters like this to a public forum in the future. It really doesn't
bode well for an up and coming enterprise to get slapped with a fat
libel lawsuit so early on.

I don't think it had anything to do with your race. The real reason
you did not get the credit application approved to make copies of your
book with them sponcering you was probably because they had a glance
of your books. If you wrote your books the way you wrote this letter
with words like "ruddiest" then they would not take a chance
sponcering yor book. Your book would not sell with made up words and
they did not want to take a risk.

The B is for Blackwoman. Your name is Julia Blackwoman. That's how
they knew to deny you.

Riddle solved people. You can all go back to what ever it was you

Maybe they figured (if you wrote like this) that any book written by
you would be a huge credit risk? Why would they get ruddy people from
a state prison? I would think prison would make one's complexion pale,
not ruddy. Also, the proper terminology is DISsatisifed, not
unsatisfied.

I take it you sent a picture of yourself when you sent the
application. How else would they know you're black?

I don't know what's worse. Your letter writing skills or the fact that
a company is actually going to publish you when you can't even write a
decent letter.

There is nothing about the name Julie that would indicate that you are
black. Just admit it was your mistake that you screwed up and it has
nothing to do with racism.

They came across as racist...? Unless they actually called you a
racist name, there's no possible way to tell that. And even if she
was, have you prove this woman represented the whole company?

By the way... ruddiest? I'm going into a career in English, thank you
for letting me know that they don't set the bar that high.

Here we go again with racism! Somebody said something about your
group name, which has no race connotations to it. You did not get
what you want and so now you cry racism. What is wrong w/ you?
Racist!

I'm reminded of last week's episode of My Name Is Earl, when Earl's
dimwit brother Randy is informed he scored a 55% on his test to become
a prison guard. Randy's response:

"I think I'd like to play the race card now. How do I do that?"
