Yup--I agree with everyone that this letter is either bogus or the OP was refused service for his/her behavior. All you have to do is step foot on any military post in the country and the first thing you'll see is...yup, you guessed it--Burger King! I was in the Army for years and was amazed at how everything on the post was a dull green (I was in before Desert Storm and the current sandy brown became the trend) but the bright shiny BK always stood out! We ate lots of it too--it was better than mess hall food for sure :)

True patriots love their country and watch their government. Our military was intended by the CONSTITUTION as our DEFENSE, not for regime changes!
That being said, I find it a bit hard to believe this happened, and if it did, that's just wrong.

Imagine that there were camera's in the store, and if this is valid i certainly hope BK is investigating.
BUT
If it was me, I would have listed date, time, manager name... this is all kind of vague. I mean, did you come in in dress uniform and they "shunned" you first before you spoke? Or did you insist you were military while wearing your beat up sweats? Com'on folks, lets be real here.

As everyone states...this letter is so vague it does not require a response. Most responses can only make assumptions about what actually occured. Other decide to make assumptions that assault the "military discount". I would like to address this a tad. I am a combat veteran who served over 20 years in the military. I do not "Expect" a discount, but it sure is nice when I ask a business if they give one and they do. I made many sacrifices during my military service. The wages are far below the national average cost of living. Imagine...a Private First Class with two children, living in Germany, ON FOOD STAMPS! Hard to believe, but alot of the military in the lower grades are at or near poverty level huh? Back to my point. I always ask if a business gives a military discount because it helps tremendously to supplement the meager retirement wage. I am appalled at how many people have the cahonies to comment about Military life when they themselves have no clue and have never served! You people need to get a clue! If you want to discuss what's right or wrong in the military, then join and become first hand knowledgeable! Kinda like when you hear someone talking trash about the President and ask them who they voted for and they didn't even vote! Shut the f-up! I believe you can only talk about someone after you walk a mile in their shoes....some of you need to keep walking! The military will always have your backs btw.

Your in the service.. and wanted a discount at BURGER KING? I was at work the other day and had a woman ask me if we did miltary discounts.. I said no.. she said "thought i'd ask and try". Now, I'm all for the military, but what gives them the right to expect a discount? Nurses and doctors save lives but you don't see them expecting discounts everywhere..Theres my rant of the month.

For those of you that were wondering....
I ressurected the term because of the "anti" everything I believe in campaign.
A SCAB is a Semi Conscious Ass Breather; someone who filters all their inputs and outputs through sh%$ such as CNN, Public Radio, Air Free America and the plethora of liberal newspaper our nation suffers from.
These people are usually antisocial and live off the work of others.

After reading your letter, I tried to fill the gaps in your story. You leave out so much that I came to the conclusion that you got upset that the BK lounge does not offer a military discount, and took it out on the poor employees. Then the manager refused you service because you were being irate.
I just cant believe that a manager would refuse service ONLY because you were in the military. I dont know ANYONE who is THAT against the military that they would not even serve a stupid burger at their job. Against the war, maybe, but not against the military itself. I mean, I'm sure there are nuts out there, but I dont know of any, and I really doubt thats what happened here.
If I am wrong, please, feel free to fill in the gaps of this story yourself and prove me wrong.
Heres my opinion on military discounts (mind you i am not in the military, or know anyone IN the military, so i do feel that my opinion is a little less valid then someone who has served or married to someone who has served) That they are definitly a nice gesture, and it really does show that the company supports the military, but it isnt mandantory and does not make the company completely unpatriotic and undeserving of business.

Rockville, IN is a small conservative town in a very conservative state. I find it hard to believe that the manager behaved this way unprovoked.
That particular Burger King may not have a policy to give a military discount. I'm sorry to have to explain that not every business is required to do this.
As for not serving the OP for regular price, that is very hard to believe unless the OP threw a fit and she refused to serve him at all.
That being said, it is not impossible that a rogue manager with personal beliefs in direct conflict with nearly everyone living around her couldn't have refused service solely on the basis of the OP's military status, it is just very unlikely.

Some places have a military discount. Some don't. That is something you'll have to deal with.
However, she should not have refused you service because of her beliefs. If she feels so strongly, she should have had another employee take your order. Where I work, it is considered discrimination to refuse the sale of an alcoholic beverage to a pregnant woman. And honestly, if she were to order a glass of red wine, or an O'Douls beer, I probably wouldn't have an issue. But I would certainly get a manager to serve her if she wanted an Long Island Iced Tea. I just have issues with that. But it's my personal feelings, and the establishment as a whole can't refuse service, unless the woman herself is intoxicated.

Bass Pro Shop gives a 20% military discount, I get it every time I shop there.
Busch Gardens gives four free tickets to military members
Sea World gives four free tickets to military members
Chevy has a military discount for active duty members
Los Palapas (a mexican food joint) give military in uniform 50% off
Maryland State Parks offer free admission to active duty military folks
I think Golden Corral give free meals to the military at least once or twice a year.
Apple Computer gives a military discount.
A lot of companies do, I can't posssibly list them all. C'mon folks, add to the list!

Assuming this really happened...
As the manager, she should respect the rules of her employer. If her employer says that members of the military should be served, then she must do so.
That said, no, she does NOT need to be counseled on patriotism. Having a strong anti-military belief is not being anti-patriotic.
Nor is it BK's business to teach someone to be patriotic. Follow the rules of the company? Yes. But to change personal beliefs, no.
For example, I am currently doing some work for the US Military. I may disagree with certain aspects of the military, but my job is to my job. If I'm not comfortable reconciling my personal morals with my job, then I need to look for a new job.

Well, this just could not have happened THIS way, could it? There must be something missing.
I know you can refuse a customer service for any reason, but it can't be that because the OP serves in the military she refused him? This is the way I read the letter. I'm guessing part of the conversation is missing?
"The rooster has sex with all of them? That's perverse! Something's missing." "Something's missing, alright!"

I seriously doubt that this is a real letter, but if it is, it is a tremendous exaggeration with serious omission of the facts.
Burger Kings are on just about every Air Force and Army Base in the continental United States and overseas. We even had a Burger King in the middle of the Saudi Arabian Desert when I was there. On a side note, the Saudi BK was the best ever... always fresh, hot and quick.
How many of you knew BK was in the desert? This is a war zone folks! How many of us would fault them if they didn't set up camp in the desert?
Back to my point... BK doesn't give discounts to military on the bases, what makes this guy think he is getting it anywhere else?
Sure, they have an advantage by being in close proximity to such a large number of hungry people, but they have always served the military well. They even have special "military" offers all the time.
Don't you think that if BK had some sort of "anti-military" policy, they'd pack up and leave all the military installations? I am sure any number of fast-food joints would be willing to take their place.
and for the navy folks, I know Naval Installations have McDonalds, but we get the point.
Bottom line, this is some feeble attempt at a coupon or some free grub.
I doubt this guy is even in the military, probably some high school ROTC HACK!

Patriotism issues aside, any discount any establishment gives is up to the discretion of the establishment's management. We're talking about a hamburger here. You were not refused service, you were refused a discount, there is a difference.
Here is Burger King's Website, their official policy on military discounts can be found by typing "military discount" into the search window and clicking "Go"

If what you're saying is accurate (the only reason I put that disclaimer in is that I've read through a lot of "I was discriminated against" complaints that I don't believe and now I'm wary of the entire genre), the manager (and the location) acted reprehensibly.
As far as patriotism goes, though, you seem to have a limited idea of what counts. Even if there were only one way to be a patriot, it's not her responsibility to think people in the military are awesome. It's merely her job to serve you.

You point to some objection that has nothing to do with life and death issues.
Should a prison guard who refuses to "throw the switch" at an execution be fired?
Should a person who refuses to participate in a trial because it involves a defendant facing the death penalty be held in contempt of court?
What about those muslims in NY that refused to transport people with dogs or alcohol? where is the outrage? Why were they not fired? I assume you were calling for them to be fired? please send me the link so I can read your letter.
I went skiing in UTAH, a lot of businesses were closed on Sunday, shouldn't these places be forced to open for those that don't believe the way the owners do?
Here is what happens: A guard who is willing to "throw the switch" is selected to do the job, jurors are dismissed in favor of those that can see the issue fairly, people wait for a different taxi, I take my business to another location that IS open on a Sunday.
NOW, if a pharmacist has a moral objection he/she should be afforded the same consideration.
For the life of me, i can't imagine why a pharmacist would work at a BK though...

Your examples are flawed. The business' can close for the holidaty because it is the OWNER's decision, not the employee's. The Guard/Jury/Taxi example is mindboggling to me, as they are like comparing Apples to Oranges, there is nothing similar as far as cirumstances go, mabye that WAS your point. As far as the Muslims go, I would call for them to be fired. If you are hired to do the job, do the job, personal beliefs aside, unless you are willing to walk away from that job and not come back.
I, personally, do not like the idea of Pharmacists dispensing the morning after Pill, but think that unless they are Owner/Operators, theya re employed by a compan to do a job and unless they are told by their employer they can make a decision to refuse to dispense said drug, then they should HAVE to dispense the drug.

If this is really true, she needs to be fired.
I am sorry you were treated that way, and thank you for your service.
