Refund the Money You Stole From Me, VistaPrint!
Posted Sun November 11, 2007 12:00 pm, by heidi z. written to Vista Print
In July my spouse and I purchased business cards from Vistaprint.com. On October 3, 2007 while balancing our checking account we were shocked to see it negative over $500! Apparently, every month without our knowledge or consent Vistaprint charged $14.95 to our account. This accumulated to almost $50 which caused several other fees to overdraft in our account. All the fees added up to almost $500! Fortunately, our bank excused around $300 of the fees.
We finally located a contact number for Vistaprint. A customer service rep stated that when I made an order on Vista.com I clicked on a box that enrolled me into the APL discount club (charged $60). The discounts were not valid anywhere near us. I said I wanted to cancel the membership NOW and that I never approved to the charges. On November 2, 2007 I noticed there was another charge for $14.95! I called APL and spoke to another customer service rep. who agreed to cancel the membership and refund a month of fees. I asked her to refund all the fees that were removed from my account without permission and I was told that was not possible. I discovered that APL Passport and Vistprint are owned by the same company! Therefore, I feel like my family has been a victim of Internet fleecing. I called Vistaprint, made this accusation, and asked to receive a full refund and was told no problem. I have yet to see ANY refund on my account. Please assist my family get this money back!
I want vista print to refund ALL of the money that they have STOLEN from me over the last few months. What they are doing is illegal and nothing is happening to them for it. I want this to stop... and if it doesn't I want everyone to know and be aware of what this company is doing to their customers.

Contact the AG's office in your state as well as theirs and reference this site. I'm about to do that soon.

I too dealt with these folks, good luck getting anything from them unless you enjoy speaking to outsourced employees with no power to do squat.
Best bet is to let your bank or credit card company work it for you.

There really is not much to say that has not already been said. You clicked on the box, and so they charged you. By clicking on the box you agreed to the terms. As for your bank account....even if you do not balance your checkbook ( I hardly do anymore) MOST banks offer some sort of online statement. I check mine AT LEAST once a week if not more to make sure everything is right. The fact that a $15.00 charge spun your account so out of control, is absolutely ridiculous. I would take a class at your local C.C. on money management or something similar....

You can't really expect them to refund EVERY month's worth of fees/charges because you weren't looking over your monthly bank statement. I also can see that maybe you didn't check a box, but that a box was checked automatically and you failed to uncheck it. Sneaky, I know. Just shows that we have to be careful when filling out online forms.

I'd be ashamed to write a letter like this. You don't look at your bank account for three months. Then $14.95 per month causes almost $500 in overdraft fees?
You don't deserve a bank account. Pay all your bills by money order.

This letter is poorly written. It is very hard to follow. If the extraneous and undeveloped details are removed, it seems to boils down to:
"I placed an order, and in the process I authorized APL to charge my checking account. I further checked a box that enrolled me in a discount club with a monthly fee".
OK. So nothing was stolen from you. You were very fortunate that your bank reversed the fees that they did. You should be very greatful for anything further APL does for you. Yes, fees that come in after something is cancelled should be removed. However, the rest of the monthly APL charges sound valid.
In the future, you may not want to make nasty allegations against a company from which you seek customer service.

I agree with the rest of the posters. They did not steal your money, you checked a box allowing them to take out the monthly charge. You are very lucky your bank worked with you. I would chalk this up to a lesson learned and read what you agree to when purchasing things.

If nothing else this serves as a great reminder to balance one's checking account each month. Better yet, with today's technology and the fact that the vast majority of all banks have online service, a person should look at their checking / charge accounts each and every week and a minimum so you can "nip" any problem "in the bud".

I agree with Marge. My kids have ordered from VistaPrint using my credit card, and I've never had a problem. Of course, they know enough not to check any extra boxes.
What I don't understand is why it took you so long to discover the withdrawals and the bank fees. Doesn't anyone balance their checkbooks anymore? You need to be more responsible.

Nope, sorry. Your fault. I order from VistaPrint all the time and I have never had any unauthorized charges. You must have clicked on the offer that comes up after you submit an order. It offers discounts if you join the club and $10 cash back on your order. You obviously saw that and clicked away without bothering to read the rest that tells you if you join you'll be charge $14.95. It's also not VistaPrint's fault that you can't be bothered to check your account balance until you start bouncing checks. You don't deserve anything back from VistaPrint. It's not their fault you clicked without reading all the info first.
