GREAT WAY TO START THE 2007 HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON....

Order # 4417-3418323 / order 11/23/2007, 08:57:22AM

How about I get up early this morning and place an online order to pick up 1 seagate external hard drive at the Circuit City 7219 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh PA 15136.

I order 1 Seagate 500GB external drive for $129.99, after rebates it will cost me $79.99....

Today is the busiest shopping day and I only want 1 item, this external hard drive. I place my online order, receive an order number and show that my credit card was to be billed. My order status shows that I can go to the store and pick up my order.

1st I called the phone number for the store on my receipt for my online order. I wanted to call ahead just to make SURE my drive would be ready and waiting for me to pick it up. I call the number and over the course of 38 minutes, I hear at least 9 people state, who are you holding for, what are you holding for, please hold on, please hold, hold, etc... After 38 minutes and never being able to ask my question ONCE, I hang up.

I drive over 40 minutes to the store thinking, I can only imagine what my experience will be at the store. Low and behold I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! First I am told my order isn't even in their computer and I am holding in my hand the receipt for my online order that specifically states the stores address and to GO PICK UP MY ORDER AT THE STORE. Then the girl disappears for a while in the back, so I already know what is going to happen, I remain calm. Then she comes back up to tell me they have no drives, they do not have my order and this is their busiest shopping day of the year.

I said to her; It doesn't matter to me what today is, if you offer IN STORE PICK UP and tell me I can pick up my order and I ONLY order 1 item, that is all I care about. If you can't properly handle someone ordering 1 single hard drive online for instore pickup, then you SHOULDN'T offer in store pickup, period! Doesn't matter if its a slow day, busiest day or fast day, you offer a service, showed I could pick up my order, there is really nothing else to understand. Then she told me that everything is "HANDLED" through their corporation office. Pushing the blame to some one else. I told her it didn't matter again, you offer this service, etc...

I asked for the manager. He had a slight attitude to start with, I briefly explained what was going on, he said he would see what he could do. He comes back with a 750 GB and tells me this is the best he can do and the drive is $189.xx and I ask about rebates and he tells me there are NONE. So for twice the rebated price I can get a price for 1/2 more store space, pay twice the price, no rebates and so far I've only wasted 3 hrs of my day now. I said to JON where is the win in this offer for me? He said this is all he can do. He tells the girl behind the counter to give me a $24 gift card for their 24 minute guarantee and I said forget IT. I do NOT want a gift card, I only wanted my drive so I could go home and do whatever I need to do... I call Circuit Citys customer service number and it is solid busy for 2 1/2 hrs so nothing will happen there.

I am not being unreasonable and I didn't yell, scream or make a scene. As I told the girl, it is SO EASY TO JUST SAY I am sorry and brush it off like its nothing because only MY TIME WAS WASTED, no one else's! This is BS and I know I can't be the only one that had this problem. IF YOU OFFER A SERVICE OF THIS TYPE, WHY ARE YOU HELD LIABLE FOR NOT KEEPING UP YOUR END OF YOUR OFFER? This is CRAP and so is CIRCUIT CITY!!!!!!

Just like they did when I went to their store to pick up my drive, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I AM D-O-N-E WITH Circuit City and based on what I've been reading, they are already on the downhill spiral. I WONDER WHY?????

I AM SORRY MEANS NOTHING ANYMORE! EVERYONE SAYS IT when they should just say, I DON'T CARE THAT YOU WASTED YOUR TIME. ITS not my time that was wasted, just yours!

Dave, I agree with almost everything that you said. Regardless of the
day, CC pushes their in store pickup, as being ready in 24 minutes, or
you get a 24 dollar gift card. I have tried to use this service
several times, and the items that I have purchased have never been
ready. I have given up as there are at lease 8 stores in my area, I
have been in all, and there always are problems getting assistance
with finding an item, asking simple questions, etc. Calling on the
telephone on Black Friday is stupid on your part.

Folks thanks for the feedback.. Seems like it is truly OK for this to
happen regardless of the day. I only ordered 1 hard drive, I didn't
think that was too much to ask. I don't think it matters if it is
Black Friday or a Blue Monday or a Green Thursday. I am not sure why
most people accept being handled in this manner. No wonder the retail
stores can pick and chose what kind of service they are permitted to
give to most people. No wonder things are evolving into what they are;
treat me however you feel like treating me today, you don't have to
respect me, just take my monies if I am lucky enough to find my
ordered product sitting there waiting for me.. I guess I was looking
at this entirely wrong.

the problem is that by expecting to pull this off, it was as if you
were TRYING to set them up for failure. The comments and tone in your
own letter indicated that YOU didn't even think they'd do it without a
problem.

They don't have to respect you - it's not a respect-earning situation.
It is about trade you give them money, they give merchandise.

But since you have come back to respond, I'd love it if you would
answer my question of why the need to TELL them you're leaving is
necessary.

on Black Friday says a lot.

I don't think ANYONE would accept being handled in this manner. I
think most people would avoid getting into this situation in the
first place. It is like trying to drive across Manhattan on a day
they are having a parade - a really bad idea.

I agree with MALoper, it was incredibly cheeky of you to attempt an
instore pickup on Black Friday. That's just asking for a problem.

that Black Friday was ONLY going to refer to fiscal gain and not to
the service blemishes most retailers suffer as the holiday season
kicks off, then here comes Dave to shoot my good mood, happy feeling
to the ground and stomp on it a few times.

Bottom line, it was INCREDIBLY ballsy of you to try and do a store
pick up on Black Friday. I believe anyone who has EVER shopped the day
after Thanksgiving would tell you that was a GRAVE error. It probably
would have been better had they just disabled the feature altogether
so that guests like you don't get "confused" and think you can get
sale deals this way.

Sadly, they did not do that. The end result being this.

I have asked this repeatedly lately and I've yet to get even one
response, but if you have already sworn them off over this single
incident, isn't it nothing more than childish behavior to WRITE THEM
to tell them you're D-O-N-E?

Should your drive have been there, ready for you to pick it up? Sure.
Should you have done this on a day OTHER than "Black Friday"? Um,
yeah, I'm guessing so.
