If there is, in fact, a war on Christmas, it is making the war on drugs look like a huge success by comparison. Christmas pretty much takes over the U.S. one month a year. Waiting until after Thanksgiving to start celebrating it is considered restraint.
It is as if Independence Day started the day after Memorial Day -- except that it actually *is* a national holiday, not just a religious holiday of the majority religion in the country. Where are the people getting in a huff if every business in the country is not decked out in red, white, and blue and playing patriotic music on June 12 (22 days before the 4th of July -- not to mention a mere two days before Flag Day)?

You know, I'm not a religious person, but I don't believe the whole point of Jesus dying on the cross was so that humankind could listen to Jingle Bell Rock at the video store 2000 years later.
I'm just saying.

To those who want to bring up pagan holiday and the Jeremiah passage on "Christmas" trees, these are both in error.
There was a pagan holiday celebrated for a pagn god and the Christians of the day DID INDEED begin to celebrate a RIVAL holiday on the same day in worship and celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. So while the original pagan holiday is long forgotten, the celebration of the birth of Christ is still the most celebrated of holidays and rightfully so.
Jesus is the reason for the season and this should be the number one reason we do celebrate despite secularists and atheists, among others who want to get rid of it altogether of water it down so Jesus is not a part of it at all.
In Jeremiah 10:2-4 it is said to condemn Christmas trees but it is taken out of context and the actual "tree" is a wooden idol made in order to worship gods other than Father God, the creator and sender of His Son. In fact Christmas trees originated in Germany 2000 yrs later and they evolved from TWO Christian traditions-A Paradise Tree hung with apples as a reminder of life in the Garden Of Eden and a triangular shelf holding Christmas figurines decorated by a star. In the 16th Century these tow melded into the present Christmas Tree tradition. In fact, you might consider it a good witness for unbelievers as an opportunity to explain the reaosn for the season from the fall in paradise to redemption in Christ, whose birth we celebrate.
Santa Claus is also an anglicized name from the Dutch name Sinter Klaas, which in turn is a reference to Saint Nicholas. He lavished gifts on needy children but also valiantly supported the doctrine of the trinityfrom the council of Nicea in A.D. 325. Thus he is a genuine hero of the Christian faith on all accounts.
So on December 25th as you celebrate the coming of Christ with a Christmas Tree, surrounded by presents, may the selflessness of St Nick be a reminder of the Savior who gave the greatest gift of all.
Merry Christmas!!!!

Hey all you Scrooges out there....my suggestion is to take it up with local store then here in New Tampa at the intersection of Cross Creek and Bruce B. Downs.
This was their stated policy as told to me by the young clerk there when I purchased the CD while returning a movie. If no one stands up then nothing will get done. Will it now? Not for me to say but I did my part to make it clear that it is unacceptable for me and my family.
It seems some of you work for BB and are plants.Wink wink.
Anyhoo...Merry Christmas and I will await the reply I get from the local store and keep you all posted.
God Bless us everyone!

I'd go to that Blockbuster! See, Christmas is a pagan holiday--NOT Christian--and I wish it were outlawed like it was back in the Puritan times. (No, I am not a JW before anyone asks.)
Know what Christmas is? Christ-Mass--Mass of Christ, which means "death of Christ." Every time you say Merry Christmas you're saying Merry Death of Christ. Think about it.
I for one am SO SICK of not being able to listen to the radio without them playing Xmas songs! I think this one station is in the middle of a month-long Xmas marathon! Just because people have to push off pseudo-Christianity on everyone else!
Perhaps you should look up Jeremiah 10:2-5. Describes a Christmas tree--and it was FORBIDDEN. As a Christian, I can't dishonor God by keeping a pagan/heathen holiday like Christmas! The Bible also says to abstain from all appearance of evil.

this is just like when I heard it is politcally incorrect or whatnot, to say "ho ho ho" because the feminists say so. So if this is the case.. why have we been saying it for god knows how long w/o there being an issue?

The money you are not going to spend is going to break Blockbuster. Like most of the other posters on this site, I'm really tired about the secular christmas point of view. I really don't care if a store puts up a tree or not. It's really not what the true season is all about. Isn't that what Thanksgiving is for? To celebrate and be thankful? I think the winter soltice is about peace, love, and joy. And if you believe, the birth of Christ, who wasn't really born this time of the year anyway. It's just more covenient for us in order to commercialize retail. Your decision to rent or not to rent movies at a particular company which opposes your Yultide beliefs is a little ridiculous. Now don't ya think?

I'm so over all these posts of this company doesn't celebrate christmas. I suggest a boycott.
Give it a rest please.
It is up to each company to decide how to best represent the holiday season, not the customers. The customers don't dictate internal staff policies, the higher ups do.
If you don't like it, then you have every right to take your business elsewhere.
That's all I have to say about that.

"PC" Christmas gihad aside,
What is a "Christian" doing buying ANYTHING Vanessa Williams makes?
Ironically it was the "Christian War on Immorality" that squeaked the loudest when her "unforgiveable", homosexually suggestive nude photos appeared.
Is it not the same God Given Talent she used to earn the crown that's evident in those photos and in this new album?

Well...I suppose the employees can follow the rules or find another job. Why is it that we expect people to follow the rules so long as they dont cross the Christmas line? If they were told any other time of the year that they arent allowed to listen to music would anyone have such a fit over it?
Besides that, dont these stores usually have clips of movies playing? Wouldnt that just make a hugh mess?
While we are at it..can we PLEASE discuss you calling the employee a little girl repeatedly?! That is very degrading.

There are greater things to worry about. The fact that they are too stupid to realize playing christmas music or any upbeat music for that matter increases sales then that is their loss. Merry Christmas. Happy New Year.

I have come to the realization that there are more things to worry about in this World than wheater of not a store plays/says/wishes some one a "Merry Christmas", "Happy Hannukah", "Happy Naked Pagn Dance" WHAT EVER! There are kids that are homeless and not going to get a Christmas. There are people worried every second of every day if their loved one off to War will come home. There are kids that cry them selfs to sleep wondering why Mommy and/or Daddy hurts them. There are Kids that will NEVER see Mom and/or Dad again.
So quit bitching about what this store and That store will or will not say/play/wish.
There! There is my rant for the year. Thanks!

Again, these letters confuse me.
I don't really decorate for Christmas or listen to a lot of Christmas music - and this is in my own home. However, that certainly doesn't mean I'm not celebrating Christmas. Celebrating isn't decorations or music.
Besides, how can anyone block an employee from celebrating? Do they tell this 'girl' that she isn't allow to listen to Christmas music at home or she's not allowed to do anything to celebrate?
I'll probably be saying this a lot on these letters but...
I adore Christmas. It's my favorite time of year. However, I don't get into the comercial side of it or care about how businesses handle it. I just want to spend time with my family and celebrate it my own way.

As some already said, Hannukah begins tonite...I have NEVER had any store wish me a Happy Hannukah...should I stop shopping everywhere? Should I consider every retail chain to be anti-semetic????
I have yet to hear one so called Christian be upset because stores don't mention Hannukah!

First of all, if someone's minor child ("little girl"), was behind the counter, chances are it was just Bring Your Child to Work Day, and she didn't know what she was talking about anyway.
Second, how about we not descriminate against ANYONE, and make sure that all holidays this season, including Hannakah, Kwanzaa (sp?), and the Winter Solstice are ALL advertised and represented and celebrated. Because if you have the right to be offended, so do the Jewish, African, and Pagan people.

If I see one more of these letters, I will ram a Christmas tree down someone's throat.
This "little girl" is hoepfully old enough to be working and therefore old enough to know that the holidays are for everyone and not just those who have accepted Your Lord Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. She can celebrate Christmas at home, or quit if she feels that strongly.
The first night of Hanuakah is tonight and I'll be damned if anyone I don't know has wished me a "Happy Hanuakah" yet. How dare they discriminate against the Jewish people and their believes and wish me a "Happy Holidays" that does not reconize my religion as the superior one?

is that the employee apparently told you
1. We cannot play Christmas music in store
2. We cannot decorate for Christmas
3. We cannot say the word Christmas
without using the word "Christmas".
I mean, some of the same things bother me about this letter that bother everybody else ... but this one just stands out for me.

Gee, that's awfully funny, seeing as hubby and I went into the Blockbuster by our house over the weekend and they were *gasp* decorated for Christmas and *double gasp!* playing Santa Claus 3. Wow, they really aren't in the Christmas spirit at all, are they?
Now come on, Keith. We all know what happens when bad little boys lie. They get punished. And they get coal in their stockings. Shame on you. Stop spreading lies and fess up.

Blockbuster hires little girls?! Holy cow, I thought that was illegal.
BTW, I call absolute and total shenanigans on the rest of this letter, too. Just go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPzAeEkEBkE to see a very cool Blockbuster commercial with...you guessed it...Christmas music playing in the background (Jingle Bells, in point of fact) as a family sits down to eat a big turkey dinner and a man walks around in a Santa suit.

The season has just begun, and I am already fed up with these "your store is anti x-mas,so I am boycotting" complaints." I am as Christian as they come, and my Christianity is not affected whatsoever by a retailer's decision to not decorate or allow Christmas greeting in their stores. If your religion is "bruised" by a stores policy you have much bigger problems my friend!
Merry Christmas,Happy Hannakuh, Happy Kwannza, and Happy Holidays. I hope that covers everyone...oh wait, Bah Humbug for all who hate the holiday season.

We have a poster in the office. It says, "All I know about Christmas, I learned from Jesus". Not Blockbuster, Kohls, Sears or Master Card, but Jesus.
By the way, a "little girl" would not be working at Blockbuster, she would home with Mommy and Daddy.

How did she tell you all this without saying the word Christmas? I think she said it, in which case she should be fired immediately for violating company policy.
Oh, and the war on Christmas was lost a long time ago when buying things and department store's representation of the holiday started affecting people's individual spiritual beliefs. By God, if Blockbuser isn't celebrating Christmas then the season has no meaning!

You, sir, are a discredit to your chosen religion.
This 'little girl' you speak of (and it's talk like that which spurs on this PC attitude that you seem to find so distasteful) can celebrate her butt off.
She can have the Merriest Christmas she ever had and so can you.
Have a dang wing-ding. Kick out the jams. Celebrate good times, c'mon!
If Blockbuster is the end-all be-all of your so-called Christmas spirit, allow me to explain to you what the holiday is really all about. Then again, I won't because I doubt you want an Atheist - yeah, you heard me - giving you what for about this holiday that you defend so fervently.
You just don't seem to have your big boy priorities pulled up into place and your clue deficit is rising.
The day you own Blockbuster is the day you hang your own little hypocritical wreath on the door.
Until then, read the Bible and figure out what the heck really matters around this time.
Merry Frickin' Xmas.

No way. This never happened. If an employee was told that they could not play Christmas music or decorate their own homes... I'd be the first in line to start screaming at Blockbuster. They have no business controlling what someone does on their own time.
Wait... that's not what happened, is it?
Blockbuster never discriminated against Christians, did they? They never stopped them from celebrating their beliefs, did they?
So, Keith... being a good Christian, I'm sure that you'd repent for telling this lie and distorting the facts.
Oh, any by the way, Vanessa Williams has NOT been part of Christmas for centuries.
