Swiffer Sweeper Leaves Much To Be Desired

Write a Letter to this Company
I recently purchased a Swiffer XL Sweeper for my kitchen. I had been hesitant to purchase this product because I did not want to spend the money only to find out tha it didn't work well. I had seen all the commercials and heard by word of mouth some good things about the product, so I decided to give it a try.
Unfortunately, I should have saved my money. Before I used the sweeper for the first time, I "deep cleaned" my kitchen, including scrubbing the floor. My floor is covered with a flat linoleum tile with no texturing. A few days after being scrubbed, I noticed that some crumbs and other such debris had spilled to the floor. I whipped out my swiffer, put it together, loaded in the dry sweeper cloth, and went to work. Unfortunately, all the sweeper head did was push the crumbs around. When I lifted the unit, there was a small line of crumbs left on the floor. If I lifted the head up and placed it on top of the line, most of the crumbs were picked up. These crumbs were not large. They were much the size of the crumbs that come out of your toaster after a few slices of bread had been toasted.
The cloth did manage to pick up the dust that living in the high desert causes to accumulate very quickly, but I feel that for the price that I paid, I should not have to sweep the floor before I Swiffer it!
I'm not sure if I received a defective lot or if the dry sweeper pad should not be used to pick up anything larger than dust. I will probably use the remaining pad, but I will probably not purchase the product again because using an old fashioned broom and dustpan is more effective.

Great letter!
I purchased the larger sized swiffer and found the same dissapointment with performance. I even purchased the damp refill, hoping a second pass with that would do the job.
Hating to throw away a perfectly easy to use handle:
I ended up buying washable microfiber towels, cutting them to fit the swiffer holder, and found they work better than the refills, and they're reuseable.
For hardwood floors, tile, and linoleum, I mix six parts water and one part Woolite in a spray bottle and it leaves absolutely no streaks.

This is a great letter Wendy. I agree with you, I find the swiffer to work better on tiles than other flooring, not sure if the static cling is reduced for linoleum but that is my thought on it from using it here. I have been using a large swivel dust broom now, since it would take too long to use the smaller sized swiffer and we tiled alot of our floors recently.
They work great for dust cloths though lol.
They need to make the surface of it larger IMO.

Is it the regular Swiffer or the one with the vacuum? I use the regular one, and it does tend to push the stuff around. But it picks up a lot, too. You get the best results by frequently changing the cloth, which ends up being pretty expensive.
Sorry you were disappointed, but you wrote a great letter. Maybe they'll get back to you.

Just in a bigger size because our living room has the same linoleum and it's rather big. I was just really disappointed that it barely picked up anything but dust. With the refills being almost as expensive as the units themselves, I seriously doubt that I'll be trying this again. I'll probably give it to my mom whose kitchen tends to stay cleaner than mine :)

The commercials made this look like such a great product. I am imagining a Swiffer in just about every house (except mine).
This is a pretty good letter. I did have trouble understanding what the "crumbs being picked up when the head was placed on top of the line." meant though.
I am not sure the people at Swiffer will make any changes other than write you off their customer list, but it is good for other people to see what to expect.
I don't use a product like this, but I wonder it they advertise that it picks up larger debris like crumbs? I would have expected it to be a fancy duster.
